    Nice one thanks!

Good win today for the lads. Tipperary were very poor, particularly in the first half but there were some great performances from our lads throughout the field. I thought Shane Durkin and Eamon Dillon were the two stand out performers on the day. Not sure about Rushe up top though, what do people think about him as a full forward? He won very little ball up there today, yet still managed to set up one goal and score another so maybe people will say he's done his job.

Honestly I thought Rushe had a poor game. He gets off a bit because of the lay off for the first goal and scoring the second one but at the very least that pass for Dillon could have gone awry. He won almost no ball and couldn't catch for buttons. I think he needs more room out the field based on that performance so I'd have him back out at half-forward. I thought Peter Kelly had a cracking game and Shane Durkin did everything to deserve his MOTM performance. Tipp were poor, their wides cost them dearly. When they slotted 6 in a row unanswered during the second half I thought Dublin were starting to get pretty desperate to put an end to it. Were it a bit tighter I'm not sure we wouldn't have leaked another 2 or 3 before stemming the tide. A win is a win, onwards to Nowlan park next Sunday where the going will be much tougher and we'll get a true test of Ger's tactics, just like we would have today had Tipp shown up.

Moving Rushe out would be suicide to our chances to do anything this year. Goals win matches, if Rushe sets up or scores at least 1 goal a game for us whilst playing poorly he's done his job. We scored more goals yesterday because of Rushe than we did in all of last years championship.

Mark Schutte 'can't catch for buttons'. For such a tall man who can hurl when he wants to he really doesn't show it on the pitch. Treacy was outstanding in the Walsh cup for me and definitely deserves a place ahead of Schutte later on. I reckon Cunningham is still in an experimental phase so the team and game against Kilkenny will be interesting.

That's a pretty big if and a pretty big ask. Tipp were shíte yesterday, Rushe should have had more. You'll hear no arguments from me about Schutte, equally dismal. I'm really looking forward to Kilkenny next week, but I won't be too disappointed if we lose, tough second match.

Agree with ye on Rushe. His goal was well taken but Tipp had thrown in the towel at that point. He got his point when he came right out the field looking for possession. He looked very isolated up there all day and really should have won more ball.

A lot of ball went into his hand but he just couldn't hold onto it, as someone said he definitely needs to have a bit of space around him to be able to run into it and catch it when he played half back he was catching everything

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 219 ✭✭PlayByTheRules

I think it's harder to catch the ball when you have the back on your tail. He had a very experienced back in Paul Curran behind him. When he was a back he was an unreal catcher, I think he'll figure it out and it's worth leaving him in there to experiment in the league. Dublin need a goal scoring and physical forward near goal. I would also have to disagree regarding Mark Schutte, I rate him highly and he caught 2 beauties yesterday. Not all about catching you know, he's very reliable for 1-2 scores per game.

We must remember though that Cunningham has been successful thus far with changes Daly also tried but failed with come Championship - Rushe at full-forward and Keaney playing a kind of extra mid-field / half-back yesterday.

Kilkenny full forwards looked tough and goal-hungry so the Dublin backs will be much better tested next Sunday I suspect.

I'd persist with Rushe at full forward. He's a big chap and puts himself about. He can also hurl too. I think he could be a very effective target man. Was surprised how much he didn't catch yesterday give his aerial ability especially at centre back. The backs looked solid enough so why not try him in the forwards.
Was also surprised that Kelly didn't card him for persistent fouling given he committed 3 in a row in the first 10 mins. Very unKelly-like.

Why is the Cork game moved to Croker? It gives them an advantage. All home hurling league games should be played at fortress Parnell Park. We need to avoid relegation and by moving the game to Croker were not helping this

Trying to give as much bang for the buck as possible to people who bought Spring series tickets. Personally I'd love to see both the hurlers and footballers play all their home league games and Parnell Park.

Great to get a win away to the cats, although probably made life a little difficult for ourselves in the end. We definitely have work to do in terms of both scoring more and conceding less goals. That first goal in particular was an absolute mess. Think the first red card was quite harsh and the game might have been very different if not for that, Kilkenny looked to be just finding their feet at that stage. We closed the game out pretty well until that final mad five minutes. We took our scores nicely, but still should have had a goal or two on the board to really take us away from them. That said, two wins from two is a great start and hopefully we can sort out some of our other issues throughout this league campaign.

Im quite impressed with the Dubs attack so far this season, I think it's something Cunningham has visibly brought to this team that was an area Daly struggled at times. Playing the ball fast and direct into an traditional 6 forwards seems much more suited to Dublin than more defensive tactics last year. Dublin look more lively and confident. Dillon at 11 seems to have stepped up this year too which good. New positions in the spine for Carton, Kelly, Keaney and Rushe looks strong.

Yes shaping up nicely for Dubs. Rushe is still the big question but I think he needs more time. League is the time for it. Slipped a lot at times today and on a drier day he would have been through a lot more. Also marking Paul Murphy (multiple All Star hurler) is no easy task.

Yeah it was one of those performances where on a different day he could have scored a couple of goals. I think with the two wins under our belts we have a really great opportunity to experiment a bit now so I have no problem seeing him stay there till the end of the campaign.

From an outsider looking in. It's clear to me that Dublin are targeting on winning the league. They have played at championship pace in the two games thus far. Fair play as they must be working their arses of during the winter. Looked very fast and fit. It's a shame really that the ref sent of Farrell in what was probably the worse decision I've ever seen. Games of hurling are ruined with red cards. Only time will tell if Dublin can keep the ferocious pace up come championship
. Dublin have no doubt become Kilkennys boggie team at all levels.

would be very confidant the result would be at least 5 pts in kk favour if both teams meet again in leinster final or even the league final.

I suppose that has nothing to do with you being from Kilkenny?

Congrats to the Dubs. Better team won. Think ye pulled up big time in the last ten allowing us to put a bit of gloss on it. Might have been a bit closer without the sendings off but I thought we were off the pace of ye today anyway. Good to see the Daly system has been scrapped. Always thought that if any team had the physicality to go man to man with us, it was Dublin.

Its all about confidence and Cunningham seems to be doing something to boost the Dubs

It was a decent performance from Dublin today, 25 scores is a fine tally and we were worth the win today by a country mile. Some find performances from Sutcliffe, Schutte and Dillon but David Treacy was a cut above. Likewise it was Richie Hogan keeps the cats in the match - a one man show

Much like Tipp last week this wasn't anywhere near the Kilkenny team we'll be seeing during the championship. I don't know if it's Dublin taking the foot off the gas or panicking but that's two weeks in a row where we've conceded an far too many points in the final 10 minutes. 1 point is all we scored in the last 15 minutes when we were cruising and KK were down to 13 men. I felt like we were just holding on when Colm Doyle blew up the worst refereeing engagement of his career :pac: We won't talk about the first goal either or the fact that Dublin didn't find the net, right now I'm just enjoying the show Ger's putting on and hoping it'll last well into the summer

A different animal..like a cat perhaps? You've a few months to lick your wounds yet, I hope for your sake you're right and Kilkenny find their form; at least then when somebody beats you you might consider going the magnanimous route.

And you don't think we can kick it up a notch? Your willingness to write off Dublin based on their performance against a very weak Kilkenny side is both baffling and amusing.

where did i write dublin off? i just said in my opinion kk will win if meet again in leinster final, im sure dublin are well capable of beating tipp or whoever in a quarter or semi after that.

Looks like you're comprehensively writing Dublin off despite the fact we've won our first two matches. The truth of it is there is definitely more left in the Dublin tank, I don't know if we'll go all the way but we've beaten Kilkenny in league finals and we won Leinster two years ago. I think you need to be more concerned about Kilkenny hurling and spend less time trying to tell us that you just witnessed the best Dublin have to offer on a miserable day in February

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17 ole ole

not concerned at all about kk hurling, a few comogie players that were playing today will be shown the door soon enough.

There's a sizable minority of kilkenny people who'll crow in victory and spit venom in defeat.

I remember telling a kilkenny girl in work that I thought the leinster semi final was a handy enough win for us....cue the sh*tstorm "yeee have nattin, we've sixty million all irelands, every second man in kilkenny has an all star, we'll bate yee up the road next time etc etc". :o
