Just heard the news Rube! Crikey! A boat! A BOAT! Good grief, only you could be hit by a boat on a road! Thank goodness you survived to tell the tale. Hope you are ok. Now write it all down while its still fresh in your frazzled mind, it'll make great reading when you've calmed down. But get the compo claim in first! Oh dear, your poor new car!

Ooooh, *sucks teeth* that's going to be expensive for somebody (though not - hopefully - for you Rube) not fastening it properly. You were lucky to get out of it in one piece though, must have given you a bit of a shock. Did you then have to spend half a day sorting out the details, are you ok?

I hope it will be fine in time, the car was an MOD one and the driver was an RAF Squadron Leader, his passenger was also one and the Officer In Charge was a Wing Commander, they all came to the base with me to sort things out.

Gosh Rube that is horrific. Brilliant news that you weren't physically hurt.

    Poor car:(

Hope the boat insurers sort you out quickly.

Be kind to yourself as I am sure you got an awful shock.

I was shocked at the time, after all you don't see many boats charging up the road right at you. And with a windo out the car is bloody cold inside. Couldn't happen in summer could it?

Oh dear does that mean I have to get down on my poor oul knees again?

Write it down? Not likely the insurers did all that (between giggles) I think the way I told them must have sounded funny. (I had a giggle myself to be honest)

The odd thing is I never noticed the damage at first I just remember a massive loud bang.

Could've been a lot worse. Could've been a space ship landing on top of yer car! (Now why did I think of that? What's in this tea?)

Hope you are made of strong stuff......I'd be hiding behind the couch until summer if that happened me....

You do know you are in da paper Rube? Was a red car was it?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,292 ✭✭✭BrensBenz

Good thing I'm not the insurance assessor: "Power gives way to sail" and all that!
Truly a "Bluddy 'Ell" moment! Maybe Jasper Carrot could work your claim into his act.
But seriously though, Rubecula, your car did its job - it protected you. It can be replaced but you can't be. Someone is looking out for you - have you considered buying some lottery tickets?

I knew the oul wobblies in here would cheer me up. I have a car for just over a month, I love it to bits and then it is written off by an act of COD then you lovely people have me chuckling away.

It is true it was much better hitting my car than the primary school where the accident happened and yes if I was on my motorbike at the time things would be a tad worse. So I am thankful for small mercies.

Thank you all for keeping my feet on the ground. (Although walking to work was not what I had in mind)

Now who has the tea pot?

A Boat fell on your car??

Actually that was not my car (thanks for posting Chucken) No my car is blue. But heck two exact same accidents on an island the size of Anglesey in one weekend? As so rightly said Act of God. Who says he has no sense of irony?

Perhaps there was a quick paint job by Photoshop? Well done Rube! I won't tell anyone, it'll be our little secret. :D

Often wonder about the Ark......why rats? And why meeces? Can't see the point of them at all. They add nothing to this earth of ours. I was going to say, why spiders? But they do help to get rid of other creepy crawlies, but I still would like to rid my home of spiders. (Sorry, went off on a tangent there. Deffo someone's messin' with my tea!)

    Got my hire car today.

It is a shiny new Vauxhall Insignia, top of the range with leather interior and electric everything. Parking sensors top of the range satnav, bluetooth, the lot.

I hate the thing, just want my car back.

Good question Rube! By the way hope you got a good set of oars with the replacement car, plus a lifebelt. I'll just put the RNLI on alert.

Good lord Rube I just popped in to do a bit of dusting and see that you were harpooned by a boat ... Should I don my nurses outfit?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,551 ✭✭✭Rubecula

Rammy you read my mind. Been a very bad week here in the Castle Rubecula two folks passed over (a friend and a family member) so on top of my accident things have been a tad fraught here. I may or may not be missing for a few days xx

There is the rather un-lovely smell in the kitchen of slightly gone-off deer bones boiling with washing powder. The way you do.

For once, nobody can blame my soup making :o

Ummmm. Has to be asked. What the hell are you doing woman?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,964 ✭✭✭✭looksee

Chucken, I thought no-one was going to ask...:D Well you see I made this warp weighted loom, and while I was researching it I found that a lot of small cylinderical (medieval) animal bones had been found in Waterford and no-one knew what they were for, though they had evidence of fibre polishing on the insides. So while I was sorting the loom I had a thought about how these bones might have been used. I tried it and ta-daaaa it improved the way the loom worked by a significant amount. I was asked to demo the loom at an experimental archaeology conference in UCD last month, and the theory went down quite well. The bones I had used were ok but not really the most suitable so I just yesterday got some deer bones from a local hunter (official, he has a shop!) and am going to try them. Well, its better than doing housework :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,459 ✭✭✭Chucken

    I had to ask :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,108 ✭✭✭Jellybaby1

Aw, flip, Chuckie, you just had to ask her, didn't cha? I just knew it would be something folksy, but having read your explanation Looksee, I'm really none the wiser. When you mentioned the loom I thought you were boiling the bones down to make (a) glue, or (b) an oil to oil your loom! :D:D:D You gotta make a Youtoob vidjo so we can see a demo.
