Madrid doing it certainly opens the door.

Btw, it's not a complete renaming just an attachment name.

Yeah the Abu Dhabi bernabeu I think might be the name

Reminds me of time I read a article about 3-4 years ago can't remember who was (Mitten, Norwood, Kurt one of those) said a hindrance to getting possible Oil Money\owner from the east had to do with United being known as Red Devils and having a Devil on our crest and it goes against Muslim faith bla bla. It does not stop millions from supporting the club mind, but there you go. Or sponsorship with few over that side.

If I'm not mistaken Madrid don't have Cross on their crest now after sponsorship deal with some Asian Bank.

    Money talks.

He's fairly priceless when the alternatives are Smalling, Jones and Evans

Wouldn't be put off by that price

    I wouldn't go near him for €50m.

I think he's a bit overrated anyway. He has these fantastic standout games and then at other times I've seen him struggle a bit. He's good but IMO he's not the elite CB that many seem to think he is. Add in the fact that he's had lots of injury problems and I'd be staying well clear at the sort of figures mentioned.

Also United have almost reached their max potential earning wise, we already are a billion pound club, not much of a return for any investor. Oil money guys would rather spend low on a club and build its value up like city, Chelsea and psg....

    50m hummels? No

They could sign godin and laporte for that or just get marquinhos with money left over

If there was another 20 year old rio Ferdinand around, I would be all for spending 50m on him.. What a player he was for us for 10 years

What the max earning potential is, I don't think many of us here have much of an idea tbh.

I do remember Woodward saying that he believes there's plenty more potential growth on the commercial side of things but he could have been just saying that for various reasons.

Godin and Laporte would be a good combo to go for in the summer.Along with Rojo and Jones there would be a good mix .Sell Smalling and Evans.

Too slow for the league is bullshít in fairness, anyone who watches him knows his positioning and anticipation is brilliant so he doesn't need lightning pace.

Along with that arguably the best centre back around at bringing the ball out of defence and starting attacks. Hummels for me over any other we've been linked with, needs to get rid of his injury problems though

According to these papers we've signed all of Europe. Eventually you'll all just stop reading them and have a stress free window. :D

I also think Hummels is vastly over rated but he would certainly improve our defence quite alot. He will need another CB beside him that has pace and reads the game well. A young Rio would of been perfect

I know this is the rumours thread but oh my god I hate rumours like this one and the way papers use buzz words.

Gowlasauras Rex believes Ronaldo to be available for 70 million.

Anytime I see the word Believes, reckons, understands, a source, swoop, etc I just automatically don't believe it and feel bad because I gave them a click.

Throw enough ****e at a wall and it will stick

Best are the ones where they write Manchester united are thinking of preparing a bid for x player, ffs any of us could write that

I don't think anybody would be calling Hummels overrated for long if he signed.

    The man is top class.

People thought Diego Costa was going to flop in the PL for example. People here are going by a few games they have seen him where he struggled to dismiss him.

In that case, Di Maria must be overrated going by the last few weeks. See him in our defence week in week out and he will soon be lauded as the best cb in the world.

Personally I pick Varane over him, but mainly that's because I've seen him play more often. But I recognise Hummels would be a bargain at 50m euro for our defence. Himself and Rojo would be a huge improvement.

Anyone seen much of Laporte? Haven't seen him myself.

I'm sure that I read at the time that this was only in the UAE or wherever. The cross will stay on the top of the crest everywhere else in the world unless I'm sorely mistaken.

I'm tired, I'm going to bed, and I'm not looking for a link though. You're just gonna have to take my word for it. :D

But you're dead right in saying money talks. If calling it Coca-Cola Old Trafford meant us getting obscene money that would be reinvested to get players in that win us PL's and CL's, i doubt many would have a problem with it to be honest.

That Berba vid makes me sad and angry at just how impotent the attack has become in such a short space of time.

For a player playing at that level to make the game look so effortless was amazing, Shame some people rate him as a bad signing, Mans touch alone was worth 30 million,

Berbatov's signing coincided with the move towards the lumbering attack that we see today. Wrong player, wrong time. Tevez didn't do much in his last season with United but there were a lot of top quality strikers that could have been signed with 30m back then that would have been on another level and actually suited to the team's style than Berbatov. He had a few moments but was never a top class player.

I'm still not over Berbatov tbh. Breaking up with him hurt more than anyone else <3.

SW thinks United want him to play as a winger, rather than wingback.

PSG want him too it is claimed.

Berbatov is the coolest mother****er to ever grace a football pitch.

As the window closes I can't help myself but to come back on here for a moan.

In general I'm not a big fan of the January window. Top clubs rarely do well out of it and with a couple of notable exceptions, United are no different here.

The difference is in previous years they haven't really needed to stick the toe in the water in January (can still remember the puzzlement of most when we signed Evra - "for what? we have Heinze")

However United need 3 - yes 3 - new CBs and a right back before the start of next season. Not to mention a midfielder (and probably a striker) Of those 5, 4 need to be first team regulars so it seems to me that leaving it all until the summer is a huge risk and guaranteed to fail.

What really gets me is seeing Arsenal, City and (probably) Chelsea all making top quality signing while United sit around and wait for the summer.

Ed better have a team scurrying away in the background getting all these deals lined up for early June or we'll all be having panic attacks again next August when it'll already be too late.
