Have you checked your number to be sure you arent eligible?

If you arent, then you could be direct fed. See explanation above.

I'd reckon direct feed ok and those overhead cables are there for as long as I've lived here as far as I can remember(40+ years).
Is it possible to get fibre direct from the exchange through these cables?

    LOL

Second time in the past year it has done this. I'm currently getting around 12Mb with ADSL.

    Why does it do this?

How about the uploads speeds? My eircom checker said i'd get 15meg. But (hopefully) next tue they are installing Efibre , the guy says I'll get 24 meg. And 10 up.

The up speed will make things seem faster. I'd rather be on a 7 meg line with 4-5 meg up rather than 0.65 up! Up to you.

As for the lower speed, maybe the cab is actually further away than the exchange?

I believe I'm connected to the exchange about 3km away.

I will probably need to wait for pure fibre. I'm in one of the first areas meant to get both ESB and eircom FTTH but at this point I'm doubting we will get that considering FTTC since eircom launched it.

Just a quick update for anyone with slow speeds.
I'm just off the phone to Sky and they did some tests and reset my Sky hub etc over the phone to up the speed.
Done a speedtest and I'm now getting a constant 4.3 meg on a line with a maximum of 5 meg.
Yesterday, as you can see from my posts I was getting a maximum of 2 meg down to a minimum of 0.5 meg.
That's a good result for me, so if you have slow speeds it might be worth contacting your provider to see what they can do from their end.
Thanks for the replies I received here.

    Bagenalstown (Muine Bheag) Efibre down?

I have an install next Tuesday.

I'm told no one has Efibre in Bagenalstown yet, even though its live for least a month.

According to one friend they came to house. An hour later they said its not live and put back the DSL. Even though the maps say it is?

No reschedule date. But maybe its just one Cab and not them all? Think there are 4 live (?) and waiting on 2 to be built.

Does anyone from Bagenalstown read these messages??!?!? I'll know Tuesday anyway.

    Mark.

    Manc Red,

I've heard nothing concrete. Trial exchanges on-going is what I'm told.
