The gay thing was a bit of a non event, it's nothing to do with his job.

My only shock was "He's only 36?!?!" I really did think he was in his mid forties.

    Still, Happy Birthday Leo

So much of politics is perception. If people perceive that he could mislead on this subject, what else could he be concealing? Given the history of politics in this country, it's not a brush any politician will want to be tarred with even if it isn't justified.

He did'nt just turn gay overnight he knew all this before he joined politics.

There is a ploy in there somewhere, after all a politician will be a politician.

It can be tough for the person doing it. Here is a really interesting article on the most respected pro rugby ref in the game, Nigel Owens.

He makes a really interesting point, the hardest part of coming out for him was that he finally accepted who he truly was. Top guy, great ref.

Brilliant sense of humour to boot :pac:

But now the toilet smells of pine cones and pot pouri.

Is there a point in here?

No point debating this with you anyway. The above shows that no matter what he does you're going to assume the worst. Play the ball not the man.

In fairness the health service has always had problems, it's not exactly something that can be fixed overnight. Maybe he'll improve it or maybe he'll get no further than any of his predecessors managed but either way I'd say he hasn't been in the job long enough to make any real difference as of yet.

Lifting the ban on the donation of blood by men who had sex with other men, most likely.

    How can this be news?
His private life is no concern of mine so i'd be curious why he feels the need to talk about his sexual orientation.

Apart from the fact that the referendum is coming up. It may help other gay people who are in a very dark place mentally over their sexuality to see such a public figure come out.

Can you explain what you don't understand about that?

Some people have mentioned that his homosexuality might hurt his political career.

I think being a blueshirt might do more damage.

Yes there is a point in there, him coming out was'nt all about himself, he had reason and people want to know that, and you calling people cynics wont change what they think.

The health service was not completely fixed and made foolproof this sunday morning because he was on the radio.

What on earth are you talking about. He made public the fact he was gay in advance of a referendum on SSM to ensure that he was being transparent. What's so hard to understand about that?

I don't think he really "came out". I'd imagine he did that some time ago.

From what? There's more people talking about the shambolic state of the health service today than there was yesterday, precisely because of his interview this morning.

Why say it if it wasn't for a political agenda? It's nobody's business and who cares if he is gay or not. You shouldn't have to 'come out' anymore.

And that's the more important topic.

Leo being gay is now the main headline in the media. There is much more happening in the country that deserve headlines.

People get the headlines they deserve.
It does reflect what they are interested in and shows what shallow, simple people they are.

I'd say he did come out to family and friends alright.

Transparent my arse, luck him being gay or not, dose'nt or wont have any bearing on any refererndum, why come out now when he hand plenty of time to go public.
The man is using his position to gain something other than him just being gay, thats what i'm on about.

    ono.
