    Government in Ireland usually refers to the Executive, not the Dail. The author probably should have used a capital G to indicate that, but lets not be pedantic.

    I can't believe how many people have taken a cynical view of this. Says more about them than Leo though.

    He did it as part of an interview on a Sunday morning. It wasn't some massive announcement to get as much publicity as possible.

    if it was a deflection tactic he'd have done it weeks ago when the health crisis hit the news or during the water charges crisis.

    Some rotten minded people on this board.

    When he first came on the political scene I was of a similar opinion. As the years have gone by and I've listened and absorbed what is is he has to say my opinion has changed.

    Curiously the reason why I had him down as arrogant was that he was outspoken and forthright in his views. Of course this is the very value which should be forefront for a politician. Maybe it was because we were so accustomed to the double speak Irish politician that when something different was presented it arouses suspicion.

    I appreciate his honesty and think that his intentions are nothing but genuine in his brief. If he can clean up the department of health then he has to be a strong candidate for future leadership.

    Agreed ! What really matters to most people right now is his ability or otherwise to sort out the chaos that is the health service and not his sexuality, and as for his carefully choreographed "coming out" I wouldn't be so sure that it will influence the marriage equality referendum's chance of being passed one way or the other.

    Yeah his timing is interesting, seems as if it was only last week that it was all over the news about people waiting in corridors in hospitals etc. and the health service in general was getting slammed by all and sundry.
