No wonder Ben is totally twisted and emotionally disturbed because of the brutal treatment he's had in childhood from Phil never mind Stella. He would've been better off with Ian. He's gay for sure and knows it, he just doesn't want to face Phil's thick a*shole reaction to the news. Poor lad just wants approval.

his loss of a mother figure in his life was a damning part of his demise. His mother dying, Stella bullying, then Hevvvur gave him some love, friendship and trust, he kills her! He has never had anyone he can truly confide in since his mother died and has a lot of issues he needs to disclose and that is why he has all these social complexities and lacks empathy in certain situations.

someone says him and Jay are close but from what we have seen onscreen, they really aren't that close, at least not on an emotional basis which is what Ben is lacking in his life.

Your posts are very serious!!! You are overthinking! Its a soap forum, most of these stories don't deserve deep reflection!
Anyway the difference is Johnny was gay, but Jay has shown no signs of being gay. So just because this messed up "non-biological" brother of his kissed him, doesn't mean he is gay. If anyone was going to make Jay question his sexuality, it wont be Ben. Indeed the secrets and closeness of them is what would deter such a scenario significantly. Ben, a messed up, confused, angry, sometimes psychotic demonised kid that he lives with and has seen all his problems. I dont think they even have a friendship, just affiliated through family ties. Never been any sign of humour between them. It would be a terrible story.
I really think you are overthinking this and I hope you are wrong!!!! (no offence, I mean I hope your thoughts on a Gay Jay are wrong).

Ps, Ben hasn't "came out". He has not made any declaration to anyone that he is gay. He acted on impulse with Johnny and Jay but has refuted any accusations that he is gay. So when I say this may be the commencement of him coming out, I mean of him accepting his sexuality, whatever it is. I think the kissing of Jay was a plot device to knock this in motion!

If Jay's character turns out to be GAY it would be ok - I mean Albert Square, Walford and EastEnders will not exactly fall apart over such a story as they have been there a few times before. I think it would be interesting if Jay started having intimate feelings for Ben as then you would have the reactions from those closest to these two characters on the square: Abby, Max, Lauren, Phil, Ian, Sharon, Denis, Billy, Lola, Peter, Cora, Shirley, and so on.

It would be ridiculous to make Jay out to be gay, a character that was totally straight up until this point.

I really hope the writers don't make Jay gay, him and Ben are like brothers, Ben is closet to Jay even more so since Hev's murder, he contacted him first when he was released from prison over Ian and Phil

Ben is gay but he wants to make Phil happy and proud of him so he acts tough and straight

Ben didn't want to go see Phil in prison so maybe Ben is afraid of prison after being inside, something bad could have happened him in there

I think Jay owes Abi the truth about Ben even if she wont believe him

Well I'm not sure as I did not expect the scene either the other night so why these two characters and why now? - Maybe the writers are in the early stages of a gradual shock coming out plot and if so, there has to be a start and scenes leading up to showing a character in a whole new light. Let's face it, some Gay/Bisexual guys often appear in Str8-Acting mode. What age are Jay/Ben? Are we saying that guys of their character's age always come out by then? Some do, but some might be unsure and testing the waters or perhaps in complete denial?

I thought the way Jay's character had appeared in the earlier parts of the scene (i.e.) prior to the moment he rejected Ben's attempt to kiss him was not your typical 2 guys who are just good mates scene. Jay seemed to care for Ben's condition and injuries like a caring parent would do with their badly injured child. Watch the scene again on RTÉ Player leading up to the rejection because to me it was like as if Jay was almost giving Ben very mixed signals. I am curious where the writers are going with this one.

JAY IS NOT GAY!!!!! ( disclaimer.... in my opinion!) CAN WE JUST PUT THIS TO REST!! its taking up a lot of threadspace, and this threadspace should be reserved for Carters, as we all know! |This conversations going nowhere, i think you will agree : )

ps, the below quote is not a very convincing one to advance your argument! "caring parent"....!

ps, don't mind me! I just like Jays character as it is! Although he does need a story (hopefully not the one you are proposing though! ; ) )

Maybe you should send your views on the subject to the scriptwriters / storyliners at EastEnders as they may be more interested in your preferred stories for Jay's character in the show :)

I'm pretty sure they are on the same wavelength as me with this one so no need to waste a stamp this time! ha!

Pretty sure Ben came out to Phil and the family a few years ago after Patrick caught him kissing someone and then the whole crush on Jane's brother. It is certainly not a secret amongst the younger members of the square.

By the way I agree and really hope Jays character is not used in a silly confused sexuality plot. He has often referred to Ben as his family and I think that's where the affection comes from.

Memory is sketchy as I'm old so i could be wrong ;-) but I think he told Phil after there was trouble about Patrick seeing him. Ben then crushed on Christian and tried to split him and Sayeed up. Phil refused to accept it at first that's why he was so pleased when Ben said he was with Abi and he was no longer gay it was a phase.

I remember either Phil going to see Christian or Christian going to see Phil to talk aboit Ben but Phil would not listen and walked out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,883 ✭✭✭MelanieC

Ben confided in Christian that he was gay & when Christian was kind to him,Ben made a pass at him (as Ben does!). Christian then told Phil so Ben lied & told Phil that Christian had been molesting him.

Max sure don't he is keeping the garage tough luck Ben :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,179 ✭✭✭✭fr336

Max is such a joke without skipping a beat he's like "Well that's nice...the Arches is still mine though" :D He probably needed something to take his mind off Emma and so wanted to believe Phil was to blame for everything.

Wasn't Max falsely accused of tampering with Phil and Carls car and causing their crash and nearly killing Phil? :P

    Oh the irony...

Hoping when Phil gets out, he'll give Max the old Ian Beale treatment, and start bullying and harassing him. Can't imagine Phil is going to sit back and watch his arches getting taken over like that. I think it would be nice to have a bit of the old Phil Mitchell back, because in recent years he's gone soft and is mainly focused on romance storylines.

very very uncharacteristic of him. the whole signing over story is a joke anyway. if ever there was a case of undue influence this is it!! Young naive boy whose just took over family affairs a day or two previously while his father is imprisoned signs over a family business FOR FREE with a simple signature to a non-related local older businessman , same businessman being, oh so coincidentally, the partner of the woman who got killed as a result of the alleged acts of crimes that this boys father is in jail for........ Oh and that and the fact that no solicitors, accountants or witnesses advised the boy or were present......... And not forgetting that how would Max have the legal documents related to the ownership of the Arches etc

I mean he literally must have drawn up a contract in an hour saying I am Ben Mitchell and I want Max Branning to have this business for free.

    give me strength..........

Can I ask a silly question? Why did Ben sign the Arches over to Max?

Max tricked him, he thought he was signing something else. Max was offering to put some extra business his way and he didn't bother reading everything or getting anyone else to read through the papers either.
