An army jacket, everyone had the green one so I searched high and low for the blue one which wasn't as common.

Stonewashed jeans with drainpipe legs and a denim jacket.

Hair a bit long at the back, seemed cool at the time.

An older looking friend to sneak past the bouncers with so I could sup on a pint of smithwicks which in turn gave me the courage to head out on the dancefloor for the shift.

The time-line was as follows:

- Shell-suits, L.A. Gear or Reebok, bicycle-shorts with neon patterns, something with acid-house smileys on it (as if we were going to raves when we were 12/13), really long baggy hoodies
- Baggy jeans
- Docs shoes, not so much boots
- Waistcoats, velvet hats, denim hot-pants
- Coloured jeans, rose-printed stuff, polo-necks (the kinda stuff the girls on Beverly Hills 90210 and The Fresh Prince were wearing
- Converse
- "Bohemian" kinda stuff/throwbacks to late 60s-70s: tie-dye, love-beads, long crinkly "gypsy" skirts, "ethnic" prints, flares
- Also clothing that was a throwback to Studio 54: platforms, those dog-collar choker things (raar!), skinny-ribbed tops
- Clothes like on Clueles: short A-line skirts - often tartan, clogs (****ing severely dangerous footwear), kneehigh socks, cropped jumpers over crisp white shirts with large cuffs/collars, mohair jumpers
- Hipsters (these were trousers that only pulled up as far as the hips) and geometric prints inspired by Pulp

If I remember rightly it was blackberry/ qwerty keyboard phones, iPods, juicy couture bags/tracksuits (what were we thinking?), patterned hoodies, converse, a bebo/msn account, laptop (smartphones didn't really exist back then) and ugg boots. Bear in mind the start of my teenage years was about 10 years ago, so I could be missing a lot of obvious things. :P

It was like a leotard but with fasteners at the groin. The idea I suppose was for it to stay really close-fitting and streamlined. But the fasteners would come undone as the night went on in the teen disco and there would be various girls with a piece of material hanging off the back of their top, two cans of cider consumed or not.

Oh I just remembered this one: those black jackets with NAFFCO 54 written on them in multi-coloured letters. They were truly awful and generally worn by the more dodgy sort (excuse the judgment). I think NAFFCO may have put their name on some other stuff as well? Have I remembered their name correctly?

I went to boarding school, where we wore our uniform all day, so clothes were never really a big thing. And it was basically before any sort of technology. I don't really remember any 'must have' items of clothing, except for paisley shirts. I bought my first one in Asha in the Stephen's Green centre and didn't take it off for 3 days. When I took it off my whole torso was dark green with the dye running off it (I must have actually been sleeping in it not to notice). Paisley shirts and doc martens and you were DEADLY. I think maybe also a man's suit waistcoat over the paisley shirt. Jayyyysus....
