Gone quite now here in West Limerick with the passing of the rain shower.

You can actually 'see' the Jetstream on the satellite this evening

That white streak over northern Ireland and into southern Scotland (you can see it re-appear to the west of Ireland near the edge of the screen) is where the jet core is, so you would think in any deep convection piling into the west coast there will be some pretty ferocious wind gusts..

Malin Head reporting a 64kt gust in the last hour, with Finner and Mace getting 50+kts. Got 22kts in a very sheltered spot in South Dublin in the last few minutes.

the jetstream is really packing a punch with the winds here in mayo, the gusts come every 20 minutes or so, hearing creaking and noises i dont normally hear and im well accustomed to strong winds here in west Mayo.

Im in a windy spot here in South Dublin, but it sounds like a gale is blowing. I'd be interested in hearing stats on wind speed from this part of the world.

If my aunt was still alive she'd say "The wind is wicked tonight. Great drying though".

Extremely windy tonight with strong to gale force westerly winds with some severe gusts in western and northwestern coastal counties. There will also be widespread heavy showers, with some hail and thunder possible. On higher ground, especially in northern areas the showers will turn to sleet or even snow. Lowest temperatures tonight of 1 to 4 degrees, with some frost possible in sheltered spots.

Malin head 69kts at 11pm followed by mace head at 63kts. not bad!

The small depression on Thursday night is within range of the HIRLAM now. Would bring a period of gales/strong gales to southwest and south coasts for a while, but it looks like staying south and fairly weak compared to what the models were previously showing at times.

I am placed well inland though but really seem to missing these strong winds at the mo, I must be more sheltered from them than I first reckoned.

Stats for last 30 mins here, showing 10 min mean speed in knots from my rooftop, taken at 5 min intervals

Shower here now in West Limerick. Some reasonable gusts with it.

Hopefully it'll get more interesting past midnight.

Actually winds a bit stronger than I thought. Nothing major though.

This is a west/northwest coastal counties type of thing. Certainly wouldn't be expecting any significant in Cork.

There'll definitely be some outdoor xmas stuff flying around Galway tomorrow. I was at my parents gaff earlier, they live near the sea in town and their neighbours have this massive snowman thing thats barely tied down.

Given that the date is 11 Nov @11:00 I think it may have a problem, or is it offline?

Some serious gusts up here on Inch Island, Donegal, lots and lots of heavy rain to accompany it. I fear we're in for a long night here, torches and candles at the ready!

Showers turning increasingly wintry in Donegal. Big gusts in the showers but nothing out of the ordinary as of yet. Heard the Glenshane pass is a winter wonderland ha and higher routes in Donegal have snow but can't confirm this

Highest gust at 00.00 Malin head 120kph/75mph

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,134 ✭✭✭✭maquiladora

Wave height up to 13.7m at the K5 buoy at midnight. The model forecast is for double that by 9am.

Just curious but why do you think people would hope for storm damage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 985 ✭✭✭mountainy man

Had some snow showers, not sticking as yet, high gust of 34.2 mph so far, fairly normal winters night up here on walton's mountain :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,542 ✭✭✭Tactical

No major change to things here in West Limerick.

Winds pick up when there are showers and fall back again after.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,542 ✭✭✭Tactical

Shower now. Strong gusts that are more sustained than earlier.

It is logical you see and great enthusiasts, bless their cotton socks, are blind sometimes. We know that in extreme weather there will be damage but they see only the extreme weather...so no they are not hoping for damage .. I think that makes sense.. they see the weather but not the consequences... not judging just saying ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,634 ✭✭✭✭Graces7

Wild wild night up here in the South West Kerry mountains.. Wind tunnel effect at my door with a westerly...getting out for fuel is interesting ;) forecast just up on met speaks of wintry showers... will see what like the back high mountains are like when it gets light
