That's quite stingy. I wouldn't put us within 7 of them.

I would like to see a lot more from the younger players on the roster at this point to be honest. Not just throwing them all in and seeing how they get on (too many rookies at once and they all wind up in trouble) but much more rotation, especially the likes of Washington, Vereen (has seen a fair bit of action in fairness) and, Kadeem Carey, Marquess Wilson. If we're building through the draft, and moving towards a team with a future and not one full of aging Free Agents, then there is not much to be gained from just using the experienced guys to keep us possibly maybe a little competitive in a season that's over. I don't think we have anything to lose by seeing how the young players get on, get them some experience.

The Cowboys have looked a little shakey lately. I think we can have them as long as Trestman doesn't call 10 passes for every one run. Despite their lackluster performance on thanksgiving, the Cowboys still have a top 10 offense and desperately needs to win this one to stay alive in the NFC East so expect them to be very motivated.

I see that because of Gould's injury we've waived Chris Williams and signed Jay Feely.

    Super bowl?

Is the season over yet? Truly embarrassing what's gone on this season.

On the plus side, Feely did pretty well with that onside kick. I had a Feely, Thursday night's gonna be a good night...

Didn't work out though. Is Tucker still employed somehow?

What was really bothering me was that we actually made a comeback (too little too late and capped off with an INT but at least they were trying) which was mainly successful because with their backs against the wall the offense were forced to take chances, to throw deep and, most of all, to hurry the **** up about calling plays and getting the snap off. In other words, we were forced to play to Cutler's strengths and not to Trestman's terror of making mistakes (a screen on 3rd and 20???). And that was after losing Marshall, with Bennett hobbling along, and Cutler throwing mainly to Wilson and Morgan. It was an insight into the kind of team we could have been this season if the offensive playcaller wasn't such an offensive playcaller.

Of course the D was completely unable for Murray, it was as if they'd never heard of this guy before and had no real plan in the off chance that Romo gave him the ball. (we take it for granted, of course, that there is no plan for when Romo throws the ball)

A lot of Jay-and-prays, which was admittedly better than what we had been doing to that point. Didn't put a whole lot of stock in it. After the Cowboys were up 38-7, they were trying to run the clock out.

Didn't realise we are on prime time again next Monday, against the Saints (even though 'Bears' and 'prime time' seem like they shouldn't belong in the same sentence right now).

I wouldn't dismiss it, the Cowboys suddenly realised they were back in a game in the 4th quarter. It just seems to me that there are two things preventing us playing like that: conservative playcalling, and a seeming lack of any interest from our players until it's too late, at which point they kick into gear because they are sick of being humiliated. Tip: you wouldn't have to worry about humiliation if ye were motivated to begin with.

Can't believe we're on prime time again, will this ever end? Just bury us in the early Sunday fixtures so nobody sees us again. Also, once again I'll probably tempt myself to stay up and watch it and spend the night complaining.

I went to bed after they called a screen play to Martellus on 3rd and 16 at the 44 yard line. That was only at 6:30 in the 1st but it was enough.

^^ There's a good hint of optimism in that post.:)

I predict we go 6-10 and finishing bottom of the division from here (maybe 7-9). We'll be 3-6 after we play the packers again imo.

Yeah yeah we beat the 9ers and can beat anyone on our day but the above is just my own feelings on it. There's plenty wrong with this team in all areas from weak leadership, not putting the best players on the field, injuries, age etc.

6 weeks later and 5 games later and I was probably being too optimistic again with 6-10

And some use to say i was a pessimist :pac:.

Surprisingly, Cutler is actually having his best season (statistically) since he came into the league!

Which statistics exactly are you referring to?

The near 20 turnovers or the inflated QB % due to 25 screen passes a game?

QBR, Completion Percentage, TD to INT ratio, on course to throw most TD's per season in his career, will go over 4,000 passing yards.

It surprised me considering his play this season. Stats clearly don't tell the whole story.

    Definitely not, reasons why;

    - 6 fumbles in 13 games on top of the Int's
    - Tunovers costing an average of 7 points per game
    - Completion & QB rating inflated by screen passes

    and most important

    - TD's & completion's in junk time against scrub defenses.

Seriously look at it game by game and the amount of duck eggs we've thrown up in a half only to score well in the late 3rd & 4th quarter when the game is done. (Patriots, Packers, Cowboys & Dolphins)

Anyway Jay's been far from the worst part of this team - I'm his biggest critic on here - but he's done okay in recent weeks. In saying that he still cost us the Bills & Panthers games at start of the season. Hard to throw Int's when every second call is a screen pass.

Well we’re nearly guaranteed a top 10 pick now- so there’s that. Best we can hope for is 8. Hard to believe there are that many teams worse than Chicago.

Special teams. Run game. Long and intermediate pass game. Run D. Pass D. I was going to say these are all abject but I’m not even sure we scaled those heights. Clear the decks and let me forget this abomination of a season ever happened.

If you’re not hoops fans yet try and force yourselves lads. Bulls look legit this year. Eases the pain somewhat.

It's OK, I'm a Kilkenny fan so it's all good.

The question regarding the teams that are worse than us though, is whether they are going in the right direction. My bet is that we will be worse before we're better. Teams like the Jags, Vikings, seem to be moving towards something, building through drafts etc. We need to change direction in that regard, the stop gaps of expensive FA hires have left us with a team of mercenaries, with no sense of pride in being a Bear.

No interest in GAA myself. I'm a newcastle fan - so more hurt. why oh why don't i pick successful teams?

I do follow Leinster - which has been great and many epic trips. The Bears must be my punishment on the opposite side.

Yeah I didn't get to pick Kilkenny, it picked me. The Bears are the proof I shouldn't be allowed to have any control over my own life, it works better when decisions are not in my hands. I support Leinster and will go see them play once or twice in any year but I never get up or (more frequently) down like I do watching the Bears. They are a rollercoaster team.

I went to a Bulls game in United Center once and had a blast at it but I'd be lying if I claimed to have even been aware how they were doing that year, let alone claiming I was bothered about the result. I had gone to a Bears game a few days before (a loss to the Pack) and was totally immersed in it, to an extent that only hurling has ever really done for me.

Marshall is out for the season. Obviously the season is dead anyway and I want to see more of Wilson, but still, he was showing lots of heart, one of the few who really seemed like he cared we were losing. Hope his recovery goes well.

Nfl is defo the only sport I really care for these days.

Epl is a joke with only a few teams being able to win it and being all about money - love the nfl system with the draft picks etc. it's also N incredibly detailed game with so much going on - still learning all the time about formation, looks etc etc.

Love it so much - painful that the season is so short. I really really hope we ve a coaching and hopefully even GM change. The thoughts of next year most likely being a wasted year is sickening. Will be August 2016 before we re looking forward to a season if that's the case.

Honestly I'd happily sit through a year of as being as bad results wise (not sure we could be as bad performance wise) as long as there is hope and building.

I only see that happening with a new coach.

So, turns out it was Kromer who went crying to Rapoport about Cutler, and he gave a whiny speech to the team crying and apologising for doing so. And somehow, that doesn't warrant being fired. The Bears are a jobs for life kind of organisation by the looks of it, there's nothing warrants being fired. Who is actually in charge of this circus? Trestman? Emery? Seems like nobody, which means they both need to be fired, along with the rest of the comedy troupe turning us from a plain old bad team into a jets like laughing stock. I hereby retract anything positive I have said in the past about Emery or trestman, we are screwed and it's time to accept that. Will McCaskey?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,729 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

I don't think there's anything worse a coach can do than what Kromer did.

Him still having a job sums up the organisation.

Can anyone give a quick synopsis or link what exactly Kromer said/did.

    Don't have a link.

    Rappaport revealed insider sources saying

    -Bears had considered benching Jay
-They had buyers remorse on the contract
    - Blaming Jay for not checking out of dead to right run plays.

All of it largely true but for whatever reason Kromer has fessed up. It's really bizarre, he's pretty much killing his career.

You get a bit tired of bashing the team, but jesus it never ends this season. 3 games left and both offensive and defensive co-ordinators are in untenable positions.

Players are out of control as well, Marshall needs to stfu, he agreed with the quote about 'buyer's remorse'! Then he's on twitter speculating about which of the players leaked the apology.

Jeremy Stoltz on Bear Report Radio has a good podcast on it all yesterday:

    http://bearreport.libsyn.com/

Cutler at least comes out of it with a degree of credit.

As Stoltz says on the podcast, could you imagine a fraction of this happening on a Belichick-led team? Guys get benched there for being late for practice, but the result is players conduct themselves impeccably.

Only thing I hope for now is that ownership or Emery, whoever has the say, has the wherewithal to fire Trestman. Last rumour I heard, he was staying:

Trestman appears safe despite Bears’ lousy season

but this was before the Kromer stuff.

One thing that worries me is he has two years left on his contract, and will that be a factor? That was another ****-up; ok you take the chance on the guy from the Canadian league, but don't give him a 4-year contract that may cause you problems if you want to bail after 2.

Packers fans must be splitting their sides at our misfortune - yet again !! The reality is the ownership is full of cowards who will seemingly do anything to avoid admitting they made a mistake. Don't be at all surprised if like a battered wife, they try and "make it work" with Jay/Tresty/Emery for the duration of their contracts, and it pushes this team into a decade long rebuild, instead of a 3 year one.

Is it just me or does cutler look like he just doesn't care? I know he has that aloof personality but its the laziest looking audibles I've ever seen. Maybe having his hands in the hoodie pocket style hand warmers doesn't help the image.

The saddest thing of all is that the Cubs have a better chance than the Bears do of reaching the playoffs the next few seasons.

We should hire Theo Epstein to sort this mess.

Fake punt and they only put 10 guys on the field. Cutler's fault.

    Goodnight.
