He's been under immense media focus since his three in a row and he's been in contention for a large part of each of the last three tournaments, so it's no wonder he's feeling a bit burnt out right now. As he said himself, he might have been better taking a week off during the play offs.

But he's young and immensely talented and will hopefully be back to top form come Friday week.
Next year there's a week off between the first two playoffs and the last two. They would have done it this year but for the Ryder Cup.

I can't imagine there is any doubt at all that Rory will win the player of the year award. An absolute shoo in if ever there was one.

If you look at results for the year, it has to be McIlroy. I know he didn't win the FedEx Cup, but he won two majors and a WGC, he's almost $2m ahead of his nearest rival in the money list, he's leading the OWGR by almost 30% over the second ranked player, he's earned over 200 OWGR points more in 2014 than the second most successful player and he's leading the scoring average for the PGA Tour. Bubba is second on both the money list and most world ranking points for the year and Sergio is second in scoring average.

I don't think Rickie comes anywhere near being second to McIlroy. While he had a good season and was very consistent, particularly in the majors, he didn't have a win, he ranks 5th in OWGR points earned (behind Jim Furyk in 4th), he's 8th on the money list and only 30th in scoring average. If measured purely by consistency, Jim Furyk actually had a better season than Rickie.

Having said this, I think Rickie is clearly one of the most improved players this season and is definitely one to watch for 2015.

Going to Butch Harmon has clearly been a good move for Rickie.

It will be a farce if anyone else gets it. But then again, Rickie Fowler got rookie of the year ahead of McIlroy a few years back, which defied all logic. I think the fact that Rory's management company had just announced that he would be concentrating on the European Tour the following season may have had an influence on the voting, but it was still a nonsensical result.

Steve Williams will be taking interviews for his next player. He has disposed off Adam Scott.

Williams only wants to work part time from now on apparently.

Williams should fine a new occupation, golfer sets his schedule not the 18 times major winning caddy!

Maybe he could carry Steve Strickers rifle when he goes deer hunting!!

JP should hand the aviators to Williams

Anthony Kim popped up on the thread a while ago.
    Interesting article re his disappearance.
Apparently he gets an 10million insurance pay out if he never plays on tour again.

Hmm, if he has to think about whether it's a career-ending injury, it's not a career-ending injury. I'm sure the insurance policy won't just pay out if he doesn't feel like being able to play again, which is what I'm getting from that article.

I'm sure he's doing all right with the $12 million prize money he won!

The journalist is putting that slant on things, that it's just a decision.
The $10million is pretty much guaranteed if he doesn't hit another ball on tour imo.
It's America (and their court system), his lawyers have a perfect defence.... he suffered an injury, he doesn't feel he can compete at that level as a result of the injury... Throw in a bit of depression as a result of the injury and he's looking at $10mill in the bank.
I would be surprised if the insurers even wasted money disputing it tbh. It would be a very weak cause if they had to base it on "you didn't really try did you?"

If there was even a hint that it might be disputed then I think that would be mentioned in the article.

I think a lot of that went places where it shouldn't. Apparently he'd put Dustin to shame and was a big fan of Vegas.

It's hard to imagine being able to blow (pun ;)) 12 million but I would say he has done his best.

His house is up for sale and he is moving in with his missus. He has even sold the fancy rims on his car.
The article says that it's a case of him wanting to go low key... But that would scream to me that he's blown most of his winnings.

Fascinating fall (or conscious decision!) from grace, but do we know when that non play condition is satisfied? When the fcuk am I getting my 10m dudes, he might say!

Worst thing you could do the fella is give him 10 million.

The Web.com finals (126 to 150 of the PGA tour were included) have finished to join the 25 who gained their PGA tour card via the regular Web.com tour.

Richard Sterne of South Africa has his card for 2015 as does Sam Saunders (Arnie's grandson).

Missing out is Kyle Stanley (2012 Phoenix open champion) and Trevor Immelman.

Good to see Martin Laird up at the top of a leaderboard again. It's been a while!

Far too many shadows on both the fairways and greens for my liking.

Nice to see Goosen at top of any leader board.

Some shockingly bad stuff from Tiger they just showed on highlights. Fluffed one in the bunker and didn't make it out, next hole he has an easy chip and takes the worst duff I have ever seen from him. Rusty. Seized up.

Another two duffs here and he is after having a fourth shockingly bad duff right now. This is really 24 handicaper stuff. On a positive note, his long game is looking good.

A bit of a shocker all right. 4 shots behind the second last player and 5 over par on a day when the average score of the other 17 players was almost 3 under.

I thought he was supposed to be OK? Obvously not - unbelievable stuff. Never thought I would see that from Tiger. Ever.

I think that round was actually pretty encouraging for Tiger. most of the dropped shots were down to his short game woes, as he's one of the best short game players of all time this is surely down to rustiness and will be back.

His swing improved visibily as the round went on, no more daft setting up left. He ripped his last drive down the middle.

30 shots to the turn for Donald.

Agree that his long game looked very promising and he was hitting it long too. But there is no excuse for that short game. He has a extensive short game area in his back garden!

Good video review of his round here for anyone who missed it http://www1.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/golf/9592665/nightmare-return-for-woods
