Twitter, I got an answer from Saorview.
"There are no plans at the moment to carry UTV Ireland on Saorsat"

You may have already seen the below article.

TV3 had objected to plans to allow UTV Ireland onto the State-owned platform

TV3 will also gain viewers for britains got talent, 'the x factor', broadchurch, downton abbey as they are non ITV Studios content

Won't Utv show the new season of Broadchurch in January then?

No announcement on EPG slot number or HD, just that it will be going on saorview in some form.

As they would say in rural areas, "why are Saorview always on the hind tit ? " it's never straight forward with Saorview is it ? There's always delay, confusion, uncertainty, will it be in HD or not, what channel number, etc etc

Its because the two live MUX are basically owned by the government - I don't think its was ever originally envisaged that commercial broadcasters would be placed on the same MUX as RTÉ - It complicates things... just look at TV3 challenging UTVI being on the service.

Surely not, especially when it comes from the our betters who brought us the the uber successful e-voting machines and water meters...........

Within the week I would imagine..

It will be interesting to see how the newspapers and tv mags deal with the listings from Jan 1. Will we just see UTVI replace UTV in the listings and perhaps just see UTV as " regional variations" squashed in somewhere ?

I don't think that is the offical Soarview page, Facebook puts information up from wiki and that looks like a WIKI entry IMO.

broadchurch is separate from ITV studios content as TV3 did a deal with the independent producers

That's correct, official Saorview page here - https://www.facebook.com/saorviewirl

Unfortunately on Wikipedia there is a tendency, in the Irish pages at any rate, for people to write articles as they would like them to be rather than they really are. There is a massive article including channel lineup for Boxer, a group which never went beyond an application really! I have no idea what Chilli Hits is, the Irish Film Channel will probably never happen, and Irish TV will never be able to afford the rate card.

I wouldn't say the BAI force them on anything, RTÉ may have pushed them on it.

As far as I remember it was the BAI who wrote to and reminded Sky that RTE HD was a PSB.

I am surprised Sky have tried the same stunt with UTVI, though they are desperately pushing HD, almost certainly it will be available without a HD subscription on UPC.

Any shows using BAI funding will have to be FTV won't they? .. Disappointed to see it going behind the HD paywall actually.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,370 ✭✭✭✭hotmail.com

For UPC, will we lose UTV, thus losing out on ITN bulletins?

UTVI promo card now on Saorview Channel 6 in SD, replacing RTE News Now.

Yes. Thread about this in Cable though I may close it if there's going to be overlap.

So it looks like UTV Ireland will be SD on Saorview.

There's also an information card on on of the other test channels (now named SAORVIEW Information)

Agreed, it's on Channel 6 after retune, new channels 11 (RTEOne+1), 21 (RTE News Now), and 23 (Saorview Information)

On my TV, there are 3 test cards, two of which are HD, and there are 40 'no signal' channels of which two are SSU data channels.

    What are they playing at?

    Another reason to go Freesat.:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 113 ✭✭khumbu

Maybe carriage cost of HD is too high to justify on Saorview. If they decide to join Saorsat platform they might be able to justify the extra expense on that over SD.

Saorsat would be cheap option for TG4/TV3 to also go HD if short term if they can't afford full HD on Saorview. Oireachtas TV should also consider a Saorsat slot even if they never end up on Saorview.

most of the content on UTV ireland would not appeal to me so far but its very likely if it ever does I would record on freesat

UTV-NI and of course the ITV-HD variations on Freesat, but UTV-Ireland isn't on Freesat is it? Encrypted on ASTRA for Sky TV customers only?
