I would like to see IW to cease trading and water to remain controlled by government/local auth
So instead of maybe taking an extra 10 seconds to pull her away from the car he should just clean her off knocking her against a pole? Three guards, one of which wouldn't look out of place in the front of a rugby scrum, couldn't pull away one skinny woman?

The other two already had her restrained and the situation under control before the feckless fat fcuker came barreling in

I agree that she had to be removed from the area of the car but there was a Garda on either side of her. I think they could have lifted her out of the way. Would have been as quick to do.

Its always possible that they could have handled it differently but its a call that needs to be made quickly by the Garda so I'm inclined to give them the benefit of any doubt.

In all I've seen from various water protests, the Garda have shown tremendous restraint.

Kenny deserves each and every bit of abuse slung at him. Toe rag of the lowest kind.

How do you figure that out?

I would like Irish Water as a company to remain in it's current form
Did you hear his smart arse remark earlier?
Asked about the protests he said 'Well it's not about water, is it?'

He's right. It's about the bank bailout, mistrust of government, negative equity, unemployment, and all that stuff. The water issue is something for people to focus their anger on.

They or he? The 2 Gardai already had the girl restrained and away from the car, why are you giving doubt to the gard who blocked the car and assaulted the girl after she was restrained?

I agree, I saw them in jobstown around the tanaiste, there was huge restraint, yet Joan Bruton looked quite frightened at one point.

The gardai are subject to the same , if not more, oversight then the average joe, if there is a case to be had, the women should bring it,

other then that, its not really germane to the IW issue and its an attempt at distraction by several here.

It was violent. Violence and thuggery are not acceptable. The woman wasn't even in front of the car.

Whatever happened to resolving things peacefully.

That footage is a million times worse than the water balloon hitting Joan.

Do you think she'd still be alive if she'd run in front of Barak Obamas car? It'd be shoot first, ask questions later.

    You know, it's funny really.
We have the usual suspects on this thread who whine on, day in and day out about how big burly IW workers are being assaulted on a regular basis by protesters but never have any evidence or video's of it happening.
Then, when a video of a copper physically firing a young woman into a metal bollard is posted they deflect and deny what's on front of their eyes in full colour.
These people have some serious issues in my opinion.

ILCU (credit unions) released a November statement (doesn't say how many were asked but a survey is a survey and they are pretty accurate once at least 1000 people are spoken too):

    44% HAVE PAID.
28% haven't paid BUT WILL PAY.
    28% NOT registering.

    So that's 72% : 28%.

    http://www.creditunion.ie/communications/news/2014/title,8698,en.php

(Thought I'd leave this here as IW don't exactly give us any info regard signups and seeing as there's 3.3m attached to the credit unions it's a big enough body with all kinds of people and backgrounds).

Now I shall leave, as I'm guessing this is going to be met horribly by many many posters.

Only catching up on this thread now.

I see one flaw in the credit unions survey........

How can anyone pay anything, when the first bills won't be issued til 2015..........

    (just a tiny flaw)

    That's the problem.

    People resolving things through violence.

Whatever happened to peacefully dealing with things.

Garda thuggery and violence towards that woman was completely unacceptable.

Just as well that jogger who ran into Cameron a couple of weeks ago did not run into Obama, he would be dealt with like Jean Charles de Menzes

No they wouldn't be. Armed and crazed men have managed to enter the Whitehouse over the last few years and none of them were shot. One of them even managed to get into an elevator with Obama

    Stop talking bollix

Whoever is in charge of thread assessment in the Special Detective Unit needs to get taken out to the woodshed for some talking to.

It looks like our Gardaí are not in the position to protect our senior government ministers without chaos or in an efficient way, yesterday they did a miserable job with the Tánaiste and today with the Taoiseach.

They look like a bunch of amateurs overwhelmed by small controllable mobs, any action they take must also take into consideration the safety of the public and action appropriate.

I hope the Garda Ombudsman is looking into this incident with the lady and the leadership of the Gardaí draws the right conclusion and recommends improved training and other measurements as they see fit.

The willingness of some people to risk their own life and security (by attempting whatever she wanted to do to the moving vehicle) is surprising, what was she expecting the outcome would be?

Are we really that desperate about water charges that we need to resolve to violence (like throwing objects as ministers), detain people (like the Tánaiste) or attempt stunts that endanger the protestors and ministers or Gardaí?

Why can’t we have a civilized discussion about the fact Irish Water is not fit for purpose and at next election vote in those people that promise to revisit the subject. Not that I think there are parties out there that have the solution, but at least it’s on option.

What this is going to lead to is more security for Taoiseach & Tánaiste further isolating (as if they are not already isolated from real life) them from the public with more cost and ever increasing security concerns.

Demonstrate peacefully, follow orders from the Gardaí and maybe there is going to be a different solution to the water charges, it (demonstrations etc.) has already worked, the water charges now planned are way different than the original plans.

Now I’m all for water charges (we need modernization and infrastructure to secure our water supply before it’s too late) and I think just like waste/power/gas the more people use the more they should pay, but the model that the government set up is not fit for purpose but as long as it’s the law I’m going to pay. Well in theory at least because I still don’t exist for Irish Water.

Let’s hope that calmer people take control of the protests again.

3 of them had her restrained and the situation was well and truly under control. They just flung her into the pole for bonus points. How the f**k can anybody condone that?

She was a threat that needed to be neutralised. Bonus points for sending a message to other potential aggressors.
