Indeed he avoids crashing, but hardly skillfully.
He swerves and looses control - that's all what's happening.
True, his handling was very loose, so loose that he nearly lost it.

This guy yesterday evening on the N7 Naas road.
Dark Ford Fiesta in the middle lane. 08 D 27312
Maybe drunk, maybe stoned. Guy was a Muppet.

Love the fingers at the end. 720p

    What is traffic watch?

Its a facility for do-gooders to use and abuse whenever they feel a "moral obligation" coming over them.

(Oh and perhaps the odd genuinely serious case every 200 or so...)

I'd be more inclined to go 999 for this. If the guy is drunk, and is clearly a danger to himself or others, they need to get him off the road urgently. TrafficWatch is great for after the fact or less serious situations, but for urgent stuff, go with 999.

I don't like the idea of it at all (and I know that's like a red rag to a bull to a lot of posters on here).

There's something uncomfortable about people driving around filming other people driving and then anonymously contacting the authorities to tell them of who they seen doing what. Its not a kind of activity that sits well with me to be honest.

It's not, I've called it twice and both times it's been followed up on.

Sure let people drive drunk and do what they want, they might not crash into anyone innocent...ya know, just so as not to be a do-gooder

Gardai don't do anything with anonymous reports. If you want them to take action, you need to identify yourself and give a formal statement, just like with any other Garda matter.

i know where you're coming from, but its not like we're all driving around looking for things to film people doing. For the vast majority of us its just driving normally and having for insurance purposes. If anything interesting happens in the meantime sure we'll throw it up on youtube for interest.

Traffic Watch can and will forward on reports to the local stations sometimes and the driver may receive a caution.

Also, going to the garda station yourself and reporting an incident to the garda at the desk will also result in a caution being given to the driver. The garda will ask for your name and basic details but "giving a formal statement" is far from what most people think it is.

Its not like you have to sit down and have a big criminal investigation. The driver at the other end doesnt even find out who you are.

source: have gone to the station before after a road rage incident where I was threatened wrongfully.

Absolutely, I've nothing against that at all. Dashcam's are a great idea when used for that purpose and this is a very good thread to log into and look at the videos. There's nothing wrong with that whatsoever. They're just open to abuse from the usual cranks that are out there, you know yourself.

No harm done really I suppose because if the Cops were getting inundated with trivial nonsense from the same people all the time, I'm sure they'd just disregard it without even looking at it.

    I dont really do that.

I use the cam to protect myself in the event of an accident. I also like posting bad driving on here . For amusement and only if its fairly bad and downright dangerous to others.
I would hate to make a small mistake on the road and have the cops do me over it. It would probably cost me my job.

But maybe this was different. This guy needs his keys taken off him.

I did report this after I conferred with my fellow boardie dash cam members. Proper due process was followed.:pac:

Well you could have reported it, how will this help?
They won't be able to prove now that he was drunk.
Indeed - he zigzacked from one side of his lane to another. He crossed it by small bit in few moments.

He might get done for driving without due care or something, but hardly can see consequences being harsh for him.
Case would be different, if you reported it stratight away and followed him and made sure he is stopped there and then as he was probably well pissed.

I've had a number of TrafficWatch complaints processed, up to the point where fixed penalty notices were issued by the Gardai. Here's how it works.

    1) All complaints are forwarded to the station in who's area the incident happened [This is the major advantage of TW over just calling into the station. When you call in the station, there is a serious risk that the Garda takes details on a post-in note which gets filed in the bin. With TW, there is at least some record]
    2) The Garda dealing with the complaint calls the complainant, gets further details and asks them if they want to make a formal statement. If not, nothing further happens. And rightly so.
    3) If you want to make a formal statement, you go into the station, meet the Garda, who handwrites your statement onto the formal statement form, with your name and address, and gives you the formal warning that you are liable to prosecution if your statement isn't true.
    4) The Garda then goes and makes contact with the other party. He may invite the other party to make their own statement in response.
    5) The file of paper goes to the Inspector, who decides about whether to issue a penalty notice, or prosecute in Court, or drop the matter.

The Gardai don't go out and caution anyone based on an anonymous report.

I'm sure he is. Helping get dangerous and wreckless drivers off the road is something that I couldn't use any other word for.

The probable case is that the more of these people get found out and prosecuted the less road traffic accidents we'll have. Thus inevitably the less fatalities on roads.

I question your motives for considering this a bad thing.

Have used TW one or two times and when I did - the car in question was pulled over.
