Never physically tired after college, always mad to go and do something, just might not have the time or money. On the flip side I remember being 19 with the weekend to myself and 3 grand cash my pocket, but after working 26 days in a row, up at 6 home at 6, I was too tired to even walk up the stairs and a have a shower to go for a pint. Take away, a half a can of beer and crawled up too bed :pac:. College is way more stressfull though.

Have any of you noticed that there are 3 kinds of problems that a motoring enthusiast can have.

    Car related problems

    Financial related problems

    and Personal/wimmins problems

If you have none of them then its major happy days! If you have just one life is still good. 2 and things aren't so good but manageable. When you get all 3 things are just about as ****ty as it comes!

The week that I collected the 166 I was suffering badly from all 3. After I collected it I cried the whole way home, literally, even the woman working the till in the petrol station was worried about me :pac:. Things seemed dreadful but at least I had no more car problems so things were at manageable again:). I had a car that I wanted to own and drive and work on, it felt great :p
Surprisingly over the last couple of weeks the wimmins problem resolved itself and then last week I was working all week too and then graduated on Saturday!!! Happy days:D:D

However, In my experience, having all 3 areas going well never lasts:o:(. It would appear that the 166 has a major sickness. Some of you might have seen that it mysteriously cut out on friday (thankfully on the drive!) and wouldn't even crank never mind start. Pushed it out of the way and left it in the ditch until today when I finally got a chance to look at it. Looked at and tried everything I could today but still could find no reason for it not to start. Eventually got it started off a push to be met with the most awful top end knocking imaginable :(:(:( It was dark at this stage (fvcking winter!!!) so I did no more exploring of the problem but at least I got the car up to the house and out of the way. From a quick listen it sounds to be one of the cams on the rear cylinder bank thats having an issue. A bit of diagnostic work to be done tomorrow to see if I can find out whats what.

Not one of those is exclusively experienced by a motoring enthusiast

It wouldn't have to be a sports car to replace a Volvo. A Mazda 6, Honda Accord or a Micra would do him I am sure:D

    NOT Halfords. :(

I got some 3M stuff in Woodies that looks like it'll do the job. Need to get it sorted tonight actually.

Once you get rid of problem no.2 for good, you'd never have problem no.1 nor no.3. :D

But, from my own experience, problem no.2 is the most difficult one to get rid of. :(

Found a magazine from 1928 in a very old house i'm renovating. I remember there was a thread on old car ads a while back, but this takes the biscuit, take a look at this gem.

9hp, i'd say it went like stink. Must have been a hell of a prize all the same back then.

I really need to give scooby a good clean up... Needs a good wash and just general carpet clean up... I can't do washing in new house and I still don't have a hover lol.
I wonder how much a fast wash up and valeting goes for these days? I know MM will go in to nerdrage fit over it, but I am just lazy and could not sit and polish one spot for 12 hours, I actually enjoy driving! :D

50 quid would normally get you a good overall clean inside and out standard polish outside and inside trim, clean alloys and Hoover it. Then you can get normally a mini one for about 20 quid which is a clean bit of tyre shine and Hoover and give the dash a clean. Not sure though maybe them prices would be out for Dublin.

Got some good fun driving miles in recently, turbo spooled on windy back roads, AWD working its magic in crap weather. :D Dunno if it's all in my head or is the colder air giving noticeable extra power low down..

Just met a shnakey traffic corps car parked up in a layby  on the way back into work :(

It does just needs a good hoover and a wash, no fancy stuff. 20eu sounds really reasonable.

Turbo engines prefer cold and dry weather. So I would not be surprised to see engine giving more umph. After all that's why these engines got intercoolers which, wait for it, make air colder before it gets in to engine!

The way I understood it was like this.
Pick any of the examples given and then select from 2-5 words that describe the example you have chosen.
So for e.g. (I'm going to make this up) bearing - spins a wheel.
If that isn't it then I'm fcuked if I know :D

Not a Bargain - heap of ****e, no NCT.
In Troubled Waters - Mint Jetta, on Done Deal.
At the Crossroads - turn off lights, foot down.
Too late - BMW N47, timing chain issue.
Oily - Provo petrol in dodgy tankers.

Where do I buy the kit? :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

really really tempted to lpg the corolla. apparently it's only €600 for the conversion. would it increase it's resale value, as in price it more like a diesel model?

it's being NCT'd next week and i'm thinking of selling it in January. the car cost me €3700 i think. if i got €4k back with the lpg conversion i'd be pleased. i think even with the car tested i could only ask 3500, maybe take 3200.

    so car 3750 + lpg 600 = 4350 (advertise for same) sell for €4000 = loss of €350

    or car 3750, advertise for 3500, take 3200 = loss of €550

lot of work for €250 lesser of a loss, but it might also make it more saleable vs other corollas? are my values way out?

    or am i wayyyyy off?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,546 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

€600 seems on the cheap end.

I don't know whether I'd bother with the LPG kit. All it's doing is driving up the price you need to get for the car and they sell fairly well anyway that model corolla always did. LPG is still seen as a kind of black magic to many people so a lot will be put of it. I don't think it would be fair to think that anyone who's looking for a diesel corolla would buy an LPG. Maybe it's just me but I think it would be a lot if messing around for no real return but maybe I'm off and LPG is more popular than I think.
