And what then? Run into the supply and demand problems they had/are having when it does eventually launch.
Buying this and then dropping down my monthly bill would make SOO much sense to me and actually save me money over the course of my bill. I am awfully tempted.
What's the best way to go about it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,490 ✭✭✭✭Ush1

Is it still worth it to buy one of these? Are they still good value for money? Currently on an S3 running Cyanogenmod and wouldn't mind changing it up.

I went from an s3 with slimrom and smile everytime I look at my opo. Worth every penny.

    Well lads,

I own a Nexus 4 and I am pretty happy with it still. The only fault I have with the phone is the battery. What's it like on the OPO?

Can anyone conjure up any reasons as to why I shouldn't be contemplating the OPO?

    Thanks in advance.

Battery is 3100 mAh, which is a bigger battery than the nexus 5 I think. That's 2000 I think?

But, on the other hand, it's running a bigger screen.

Seems fine on mine so far, have gone through two days use without it needing a charge. I'm a light user though... Maybe 6 short calls over those two days, some camera use, a gps trip, some texts and light app use.

I've currently got a Nexus 4 that basically I am very happy with. Like many I was looking at the prospect of upgrading to the Nexus 5. However; also like many when I saw the prices for the N5 then that ended any prospects of upgrading.

I have read most of the pages in this thread with a view to trying to build a picture of the OPO. I have seen a number of areas that prospective owners are requesting some detail together with their responses, a lot of this was regarding routing the phone. As many of the owners seem to have routed already I would like to ask some of those owners who have not routed if they feel they have lost out on anything by not routing their OPO?

Could the OPO be looked on as an almost vanilla Android phone with nearly all the OS attributes of the Nexus/Motorola family? I know there will probably be a three month wait to get the latest update but barring that I get the impression that if you were expecting to be more than happy with the Nexus 5/6 then you will certainly be happy with a OnePlus One.

I have read that some people have had issues with slow charging when not using the original equipment supplied. I have been down this road with the Nexus 4 and come out the other end with the problem solved.

In regard to the Nexus 4 there two important elements that need to be in place. The first is that for the Nexus 4 you need at least a 2 Amp charger. The second however is equally important and that is that the USB cable needs to be 2xAWG 24 & 2xAWG 28 copper wires. The 24 AWG wires (heavier wires) in the cable are needed to conduct the higher current required to charge this (any many others) within the expected time. In my case; even using a 2 Amp charger but with a standard cheap USB cable the phone frequently did not reach full charge even overnight. Plenty of research later revealed the need for the higher gauge cables in the USB cable. These cable proved to be difficult to locate outside the USA but i actually did find an Amazon agent that had them in stock and I ordered these. Problem solved. The Nexus 4 charges fully in about 2 1/2 hours with the same 2 Amp charger and the new 24/28 AWG USB cable. I hope this info might be of interest to some. I would surprised if the forgoing was not the main problem that users may have in charging their OnoPlus One.

If anyone can comment on my query above I would appreciate it.

Lads I had over 50% battery and screen froze and died. Wouldn't turn on so I plugged it in and charge symbol came on. Anybody know what the story is with this?

Hate to say it, but could be a dodgy battery. Check the battery stats & see what they say. Leave it charging for a few hours and then try to let it run down fully & see what happens.

Hi Keno. I've my opo since July. Battery life is good. Find it comparable to my note 3. Phone was great when I got it but last few updates have made it very buggy. Lots of issues in the last few weeks which are well documented on xda and opo forums . I'm sure that these will get resolved as cyanogen get to grips with the known problems.
I did enjoy the phone at first but the last month have made it tiresome to use to be honest. Great hardware but software for me let the whole experience down.
If you get a good one, it's the best bang for your buck. I bought the phone for use in the states as I spend some time there during the summer. I'll be retiring it now and getting the note 4 or nexus 6. If mine weren't as buggy, I'd keep using it for another few months.

What issues are you experiencing? I had a few but they were corrected latest update, haven't spotted anything new so far.

Not buggy for me on 38r and didn't feel the need to root. As for chargers I picked up a few blackberry playbook ones cheapen Amazon that work really well.

The only reason I rooted mine was to change the stock DPI.

I have a 4 euro Chinese charger off eBay and it works fine with it.

I changed from a nexus 4 to the 1. The last few months I was getting anything between 10 and 18hrs, usually lasted from morning to bed time just! While this week is really only my first week using the one it's lasting much better! I'm at roughly 50pc now after 16hrs, yesterday it was a day and 16hrs, my nexus would be being a charge.

I've found I've been using my tablet a little less but this could still be the newness of having a new toy.

I haven't rooted either, thinking about it though only for theft software so it can be installed on the root drive so it can't be deleted with a factory reset.

I find cyanogen to be very close to stock with a few nice additions to do with personalisation and profiles. Overall I quite like it just like I did the nexus 4.

Anyone able to help me with the lock screen. Currently I have custom lockscreen and camera enabled with a pattern. I want to use button actions and custom widgets with the pattern unlock. The button actions don't work though, if I click the lock symbol or hold it down it hours straight to the unlock pattern. Shouldn't it allow me to pick a shortcut first.

I'm afraid I know the answer to this question already but if I root my OPO will I have to re-install all my apps and re-configure settings and homescreens etc? Is there any way to take a backup of the non rooted device, root it and re-install the backup so that to all intents and purposes all settings and apps are as they were before?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,923 ✭✭✭kearneybobs

Getting a real hankering for this phone now. Been keeping an eye on it over the last few months and really want to bite the bullet and buy one but I think the gf is possibly buying me a 2014 Moto G since I mentioned that a few weeks ago. Dont want to break it to her in case she already has bought it for me.:(

I'd say you could do that but it is best to do a clean install. Wipe it while you unlock the bootloader and re-install everything.

Hellllp!!!!! I got my oneplus one 2 days ago. It went into a boot loop yesterday. I tried following instructions on the forum to fix but either I'm doing it wrong or it didn't work. Can anyone help me?

We're you trying to root it?

Nope. Was just on Facebook when it happened. Have tried to root it since as that's part of the fixes on the forum but have had no luck. I'm not the most savvy when it comes to these things. I've had no support from one plus.

Just ordered mine, just wondering what you have to do to get on a network in Ireland.
I'm with three, do I just have to register the IMEI with them?

Just stick the sim in and you're good to go.

Yup that's it but the fix won't work without having already installed twrp recovery... I think...

Have you tried the Oneplus One toolkit? http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/development/oneplus-one-toolkit-manudroid19-gui-t2807418

If you don't have a custom recovery already installed you're probably going to lose all your data at this stage. Try unlocking the bootloader, rooting and flashing TWRP using the above.

I had a mini bootloop the other day. Was just in the app drawer & the phone suddenly rebooted, then rebooted again. Booted fully the second time, but said it was re-installing android and spent an age 'optimizing' my apps. First time it's happened in the 3 months I've owned it.

Put in your networks APN settings. Or you won't get internet.

I never had to do this.

It's normal that you have to do this when you get a phone that is not tied to a mobile network ie when its unlocked because if you get let's say a phone from meteor they would have the APN settings installed on it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,181 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

Mine entered the Three settings by itself when I took it out of the box.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,900 ✭✭✭daytob

Any phone I ever had I never had to put the settings in, I would get a text off whoever I was with a the time telling me the apn settings would be downloaded
