Of course now I'm feeling all energised and ready to have maths problems fired at me when tomorrow morning I'll be asleep in the corner! Life is annoying sometimes..

I think theyre called connected equations and they should be beside normal quadratic equations but I'm not sure as we don't really use a book :)

I started my first 'comparative text' for English yesterday. I heard that we only need three mediums (book, movie etc) for the exam. Anyone have any more information?

You just basically compare some aspects between a novel and drama you have read? :D

We are doing a book, movie and play.
You compare them under 3 headings but i think you only pick one or two for the lc.
The are like theme and cultural context and then one or two more

Yeah you do three texts (novel, drama or film) and compare them under Theme and Issue, General Viewpoint or Cultral Context. Two are prescribed for each year (cant think which two are for us :o) and one comes up on the day. I don't know much about it apart from the fact my teacher said its the most pointless aspect of the entire Leaving Cert course :pac:

You mean two texts are prescribed or two themes?

Can you guys give a fellow Boardsie some advice?. Wanted to do both Biology and Chemistry as part of my options but only got Chemistry!. Was stuck with dreadful options as opposed to the Biology class and I'm reluctantly in Economics despite liking Business at JC( confused isn't the word as the way it's taught isn't great and notes I get are inaccurate and to couple with that my textbook is confusing and the atmosphere in the class is horrific!. I'm doing eight subjects currently ( seven higher level including Economics and was wondering should I see if I can study Biology on my own during Economics or dread going to class and see it as easy points even if I'm struggling?). I'm hoping to do medicine so want to study Biology even if I can't in school!. That would tally to nine subjects ( eight at higher level).

Two of one of these are prescribed:
    General Viewpoint
    Theme or issue
    Cultural context

The list of texts perscribed is quite big

I know! Already read a few of them so I've a chunk gone out of the list. What are other people reading? On Never Let Me Go at the moment

Em well I've only done biology for a month, but it's not hard to understand at all but there's a lot of definitions to learn off! If you have the motivation to do it on your own I'd say go for it especially if you wanna do medicine, it's a nice subject so far :) not looking forward to ****ty chapters like ecology though ughhh

Hey guys anyone know about the graduate entry medicine. All I know so far is that you have to do the Gamsat but apart from that I ak clueless. Also what is the diff between graduate med and undergraduated med ?

I'm pretty sure you have to have to graduate with at least a 2,1 in any degree to apply and the course is a year or two shorter? Check out the health sciences education forum there's loads about it :) why are you thinking about postgrads in 5th year though?!

Some people may see graduate-entry Medicine as a more realistic option than getting the required points.

It's worth noting that grad med costs like €80k, so everyone should keep that in mind

And we've only started the course it's still a 'fresh start' it's a bit early to be giving up on undergrad Med! Most fairly intelligent people could get the points if they worked consistently hard from now.. Believe in yourself :D

Hard to get undergraduate medicine if two of your subjects are languages at higher level..!

If languages aren't your strong point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 308 ✭✭kb98

    why?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,823 ✭✭✭DublinArnie

Well, languages are my weakest point. I do both Italian and irish higher level, and comparing them to my other subjects - they're the weakest.

I do 7 subjects, so this means I could get around 500 with my five subjects plus a language. I could pick up an extra subject to score the points, but I don't know. I don't necessarily feel this is my fault, the teacher's are not the best compared to my good subjects.

Going to try stick to these two with higher level.

Well fair play if you're sticking them :) I'm not great at irish so I'm gonna put in minimal effort at HL (because my teacher won't let me drop) and pick up another subject for points. Hopefully it'll work out..
