Rankings don't tell everything. Are you saying you'd prefer to have the US line up? I think Paul did a very good job but he had the better team.

Exactly right, he had the better team....he did not have the better players. (Evenly matched players overall imho)

They seem to need an enemy.

Reed was a class addition to this.

The senior Yank players - didn't turn up for Tom.

I just hope he's in the commentary booth when he's not playing.

I thought Darren was very poor. Bland cliches and not a single insight. He sounded like a fan rather than a pro with experience of having been there.

I think you two are agreeing with each other...

Phil Mickelson's comments right or wrong?

To be so ruthless of legend like Watson took some doing.

That's always the case when a team wins or loses. When America won under Azinger everything was great, when Europe lost under Faldo everything was terrible.

Fair point but the result isn't the only evidence. There has been a ton of stuff about how good Azinger was and how detached Faldo was. Mickelson made a point of quoting chapter and verse about how good Azinger was and how they need to get that back.

What did Phil say at the press conference?

Shouldn't have said it but there was a context, he was asked what they should do in the future and he answered go back to Azinger plan, perhaps not a direct criticism.

Watson shouldn't have released the info that Phil pleaded and texted him to be Put out yesterday, breach of confidence.

    Watching it back here.

Not that there was any doubt. But we can see when Rory wants to be up for something - he has that other 2 extra gears.

Was Watson wrong ya, but should Phil have said it no.

Today you could see it in his eyes. He was up against one of the players of the year and he destroyed him. When Rory drives well he is head and shoulders above the rest. Of all the American team I thought Fowler had the best chance against Rory but he was just a spectator at times.

    Man management

I think if yoi have a player pleading and texting to be put in. then you put him in. Hes going to give 1 million per cent

Mcdowell also made a comment in interview about wanting to play more than 3 matches, but when McGinley laid out the importance of his role in the team, he accepted it. 3 points out of 3 proves how right that was.

The more I think about it, the better and better of a job McGinley did.

Couldn't agree more, managed the team of 12 brilliantly.

One point being made is that azinger won because Faldos management was so poor.

After Garcia's response today my new quote is FOF, I will leave you figure it out for yourselves :)

As for Michelson, that was disgraceful.

Rory... He showed the world that if you want to take me on then bring your best as I'll be better. GMac never gave in and for me that was the win of the day.

    Excellent post earlier btw :)

I think McGinley did an excellent job but I think you've just proved that the winning team captain is always blessed with making the "correct" decisions.

Phil wanted to play. Watson didn't play him = A mistake as Phil would have given it everything.

McDowell wanted to play. McGinley didn't play him = A master stroke in keeping him fresh.

If Watson was a turkey a la Faldo, Mickelson as the senior player is entitled to comment.

Great captains don't necessarily make good captains. A bit like football really.

    Nicklaus, Faldo, Watson...

Yeah but if USA had won and McGinley hadn't picked GMac, I think the same people would be saying the same - that it was bad man management from McGinley.

Be a sheep if you like, or you could do a little googling and make up your own mind ;)

I can't really be arsed doing a little googling to find out if I should hate somebody who plays golf. Call me a sheep but the personalities of golfers really aren't that important to me. Or is it actually the sheep who imagine they need deeply defined personal relationships with these people that they'll probably never ever meet? I do take your word for it though. He probably really is a vicious, notoriously nasty f......g bastard.

He was 4 down, an unbelievable win or collapse.

Donaldsons wedge from 146 yards was pure box office, never tire of watching it.

See everybody in the Euro team knew what was going to happen.

If you are going to drop the best player the US has maybe ever had - (Phil).
It needs to be done in a certain way.

Your a good manager if you drop somebody not performing - but you have to do it in a certain way.

It shouldn't have been inconceivable that Phil would not play all matches - he is 44 and arthritis is on the way. His form is very up and down the last while.

They kept using the word process on Euro team - Paul was clever looking at what good teams do in GAA and Football etc.

Well 3 down but the point stands, collapse alright but pressure caused or contributed to the collapse.

    .

But in the correct forum and at the right time - not an hour after the thing finishes and your captain is sitting to your left..

Watson did captain the US in 1993 when they hockeyed Europe at the Belfry. Can't be completely useless.

I think the difference is that GMac and McGinley talked about it and sorted it. Mickelson did it by text and Watson didn't make the effort to meet him.
