Thnaks a mill for the link......... I'm a Rossmore member so there will not be much work done for the next hour !!

6 & 4 and 5 & 4 is a right beating for a matchplay final. Example of the quality of the Rossmore Team and one of the players in match five has been shooting 30(Gross)points plus all summer I think hes off 6-7 seven at the moment

To be fair, back to back wins is some achievement in any comp regardless, especially one as competitive as the Purcell, congrats to Spanish Point.
And indeed to all the winners, I'm sure most of us would love the opportunity to play in the finals, be it PP, Senior, Bruen, whatever.

ffs 7 tours in a row was a great achievement as well

And while its a golf forum, its not Colin Mongomerie we're talking about...

Congrats to Lisselan. Great win for a club that is struggling to survive. A Bruen win and the publicity it would bring is much needed

Tbh with what I've seen and read here and been told by fellow golfers, i think their win is slightly tainted. Locally, here in clare, most golfers have lost a lot of respect for the Spanish point club. Their reputation precedes them. Pity really. Victories should be celebrated, especially when you're representing your club and county.

    Would you care to elaborate?

Would you see SP players popping up a lot as winners of open fourballs, rumbles etc?

I wouldn't like to play in any finals - if this is the carry on.

    Sorry.

    Sorry.

You would though, team golf with all it's problems, is still way better than individual golf.

    Sorry - no.

you can still have your own standards.

My handicap - is my handicap - I work hard at it.

Not into this **** at all.

    Team my arse.

So do I. Its not necessary to cheat to do well and it's certainly not necessary to cheat to enjoy it. We had a very good, but totally legit team a few years ago in the PP and came within a shot of beating the eventful winners (not SP).

Just back from Fourball comp run over the summer between the six local clubs, none of the fanfare of the GUI stuff but a brilliant competition all the same.

At least try it before writing it off.

Or don't, it's your own loss.

They need to sort their **** out - not me.

    6 & 5 - for **** sake.

Speaking in general terms I couldn't agree more.

My take on it is golf is a game if honour, if someone chooses to dishonour it then to me that's their issue, they have to live with it. I'm not going to let them deprive me of a great experience.

Its only a great experience though if you swallow the illusion. Some can, some cant.
Cairny, when you hear there is a known bandit playing on a team with you, do you withdraw from playing ?

I'm responsible for the integrity of my own handicap. You can't expect me to set myself up as the moral arbitrator of other peoples handicaps.

Our handicap sec does his job, plenty of cuts for general play etc.

Tbh there are two or three in our place that could be lower but they tend not to play in teams anyway. No new golf bags up for grabs for them.

What's the illusion btw? Nothing illusory about this weeks results.

The results are factual of course.

But that the competition is fair and honest ? And that those succeeding in it deserve acclaim and congratulations ? That this is handicap golf in the spirit of the game ?

    Count me out.

But it's only an illusion if those competing aren't aware of the problem, speaking for myself I'ver never been under that illusion. Don't think many are.

From time to time you're two holes into a match and you know one of the guys you're playing is better than his handicap, It's all the more satisfying to be shaking hands and telling him hard luck a couple of hours later.

Well if popular opinion on this forum is to be believed Spanish Point must be full of distance members.

I've played lots of Intetclub matches over the years & have lost my fair share, worst been this year when I got beaten 5 & 4. However I've also won 7 & 5 on a day when everything went right.
So going by some opinions here I was beaten by a bandit, and in turn I became a bandit when I won easily.
Lads, it's amateur golf we're playing and if I was good enough to be able to pick & choose the days I play well, I think I'd be on the pro tour.

already been a warning, do not make allegations about specific clubs.
    No more warnings guys.

On a more positive note, am playing in my first ever interclub final tomorrow, Tudenham Cup. We are playing Concra Wood from Monaghan in the final in Mullingar. It's been a tremendous experience regardless of what happens tomorrow. Haven't come across anything like the shenanigans mentioned in pages here.

    I can't wait for tomorrow :)

As another poster said, don't knock it until you try it.

To be fair what they've done is an achievement !! Everyone get out practising and they'll be beaten next year !!! There's no such thing as an unbeatable team !!
