Since this coup was orchestrated in an attempt to move NATO arms closer to Russia then it is most DEFINITELY Russia's business. But if you have doubts about that in that it is an internal conflict then what business is it of America's or Britain's or anyone else either for that matter.

Like I said before, you can't have it both ways.
If it's none of Russia's business then you must say that it's none of America's business also...no?

there are Russian soldiers on Ukraine soil officially they are on holidays but just happen to have all their top of the line equipment with them. I would like to see your proof that the 'coup' was a NATO conspiracy. And actually it was Ukraine that wanted to join the EU and that was one of the triggers to this conflict the last thing that the EU need right now is another broke country.

The way I see it Ukraine were no longer going to lease Sevastapol to the Russians and were put in their place everything else is a FU by Putin to keep them in poverty.

Umm ... noone is trying to break up Russia (except maybe some Islamic fundies in Chechnya).

Noone here is "Russophobic" most people would prefer to have better relations with Russia in the mutual interest of all. It's just hard when they routinely invade and take territory from their neighbors.

All anyone wants is for Russia to mind its own business and stop invading it's neighbors, stealing their land, and killing and kidnapping their people. As the largest country on Earth 7 times over but with a population of only 110 million or so that should be easy enough, but Putin and co seem to have bigger ambitions.

Many of those so-called "Novorossians" are only there because they were sent there as colonists by Stalin in an attempt at genocide against the Ukranian people. Which the Soviets also did to Estonia - another country that Russia is now screwing with. Estonia is vulnerable to Russian meddling on the same basis that Ukraine is - the country has a sizeable chunk of its population as cultural Russians also left over from Stalins attempt to starve, exile and kill as many Baltic people, Ukranians and others as necessary to destroy those nationalities.

That fact alone should keep Russia out of the affairs of those countries. Permanently. And if someone wants to live in Russia they should bloody well move there, it's not like the coutry isn't big enough.

I've predicted for some time based on Russia's recent history that they'd start some more **** with Estonia (again) and I have been proven correct, at least on a small scale.

The US IS trying to break up Russia into weakling states. If you had any insight into the goals and machinations of the neoconservative circle that became part of the American administration during the Nixon years, and ever stronger and more influential thereafter, you would know that.

I have mentioned Brzezinski (Carter's advisor) before. He masterminded the destabilization of Afghanistan in 1978/79.

His opus "The Grand Chessboard" is a blueprint that outlines American aims to completely crush any obstacle to US global resource and monetary control. The vanguards (Dick Cheney, Robert Kagan, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle, to name but a few) have codified the mantra that American military power must never be challenged. Their ethos, broadly stated, is that all control, "full spectrum dominance" as they state must lie within Washington's hands.

Now these aren't my words they are the words of senior members of successive US administration.

For you to state that nobody wishes to break up Russia, without a smidgen of knowledge regarding the true aim of the geopolitical game unfolding in front of your eyes, is naive at best.

Written in 1997, Brzezinski's recommendation to destroy Russia is a mandate that is being slowly adhered to up to the present day and beyone.

    http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1254548/posts

Free Republic is a blazing rag replete with clueless "my country right or wrong" knuckleheads but you can seek out sources for the writings of this sociopath and they are many.

I don't have the time to post every single scrap of evidence, even threats, to destroy Russia and castrate China in order to hold America as the preeminent force on Earth. But you can seek them for yourself.
When American political "scholars" publish recommendations to destroy a country then one has to understand that country's anger. One also has to understand that country's suspicion given sneak tactics, propaganda campaigns, sanctions, smears and all manner of other subterfuge designed to forge public opinion before conflict sprouts and metastises.

Do you remember the years of sanctions, no fly zones, propaganda, vilification, etc that preceded the utterly criminal and revolting invasion of Iraq under a pack of nauseating lies?

I'm sure you do but don't want to talk about the death of so many.
Now you are fine to follow the same recipe regarding Russia?
Quick to swallow any piece of information, bogus or otherwise, that would paint the Russians as some kind of barbarian horde.

Just because people want McDonalds and Disney right?

And your happy alternative is a bowl of thin potato soup washed down with a pint of vodka while listening to military music, after driving home from the munitions factory in your shiny new Zaz.

Because the poor f'ing ukrainians didnt think they'd be invaded by their psychotic neighbour and they asked The West for help.

When did they ask the "West" for "help"? The West orchestrated a coup to effect regime change in Ukraine and install a puppet government that would open Ukraine's agriculture industry up to foreign plunder. Only a fool would deny this. Are you saying that Iraq also asked for western "help" to completely destroy their country, kill over a million people, maim millions more and turn 4 million into refugees? Because if you are then I don't know what to make of your posts.

    Illogical nonsense.

Listen I'm no fan of the spread of the us right wing corporatism but if russia wants to compete with that they need to cop on and claw their way out of the soviet 1950's and get productive and actually create a society people in the world want to be part of instead of reverting to internal repression and censorship and invading other countries to gain "allies".

Does russia produce anything other countries want besides oil and gas?

    No.

Maybe they could try that approach instead of bullying others.

Do you know anything about Russia or what they produce? Do you just think that Russia has oil and gas reserves and nothing else? And that everyone drives around in Trabants and eats borscht for breakfast, lunch and dinner? Because only an ignorant, narrowminded man would think such a thing. Mineral fuels including oil maybe their largest export but they export billions also in chemicals, copper, wood, steel, precious metals, etc. Go and do some investigating into what Russia produces instead of making such a flippant and stupid statement. Start with aerospace. Every satellite that's launched into space, every astronaut that is sent into space (American's included) get there in rockets propelled by Russian rocket engines because they are the highest quality engines in the world. Without Russian rocket engines there are no space programs in any country. And that's just for starters. Go and find out a bit more instead of making those blanket comments.

What are you on about? McDonald's opened up in Moscow during the USSR. But your average Russian has more discerning tastes than paupers who would put that muck in their mouths. They are a lot more sophisticated and classy than those who would marvel at deep fried chicken and peanut butter.

It may have delayed things for a year or two which in Space Program timings is a minor blip.

The result of this is the Americans are now investing in manufacturing their own engines, net result all those Russian Technicians will be out of jobs.
Earlier this month, a House Armed Services subcommittee set aside $220 million to begin full-scale development of an U.S. rocket engine alternative to the RD-180 as part of a budget markup.

How does that make it acceptable for Russia to invade and steal Ukrainian land? this thread is about Ukraine, Also I don't remember Russia making a big deal of the US attack on iraq.

And again I ask for proof of what you are saying.

Military Plant In East Ukraine Devastated By Massive Explosion; Kiev Accuses Russia Of Using Tactial Nuke:

Last night's headlines crowed in bright red flashing text that Russia and Ukraine had (once again) agreed a cease-fire and terms over the borders between the two nations. Perhaps not surprisingly, mere hours later, Ukraine is claiming that Russia has broken the truce... with the use of a tactical nuclear weapon at Luhansk airport. This comes on the heels of claims by the pro-Russia separatists that Kiev forces destroyed a massive military plant in Donetsk. Russia's defense ministry flatly denies the 'nuclear strikes' adding that "no reasonable person will take them seriously." This truce-breaking action has once again raised calls among Ukrainians for the nation to get its nuclear status back; something Russia is clearly strongly against.

oh dear. whilst the devastation appears quite complete Im not so sure it was a nuke.

Ahh come on, using a nuke!!!

Prime minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk wants to build a wall to keep russians out and now kiev tells us the russians are using nuclear weapons!!

FFS are there any sensible people in charge in kiev?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,291 ✭✭✭✭Gatling

Something was lost in translation me thinks .

But in a week we see fighting back and forward while the Ukrainians held the airport then all of a sudden it's completely wiped off the face off the earth .
Wouldn't be surprised if russia carpet bombed the area from the air.
I'm reckon who ever is feeding the kiev officials intelligence is pro Russian .

More interesting is the news of a new battle group made up of polish, Ukrainian. Lithuanian and latvian troops to defend eastern based borders

Actually it was Geletei, Ukraine's Minister of Defence, who claimed that Russia used tactical nuclear weapons in the assault on Lugansk airport.

    Full story is there

Lets be honest here, the west won the cold war yet we are no better off.
The population of the west have worked hard and have nothing to do with the collapse of the economy, its the unfettered actions of the banks which have messed up the west.

Now in Russia you have a country who lost the cold war, the country was raped by oligarchs and banks, eventually a "Messiah" in Putin came along and righted what the public believed was wrong.

Despite the best efforts of the west to paint Putin as a demon, the russian people love him.
Name me one western politician who has anywhere near the support of Putin at 87%.
    Obama is hovering around 40%.
    Cameron is around 30%.
    Hollande is 13%.

Merkel is no committal, the germans aint stupid, Europe and russian together can benefit each other no end.
It only benefits the USA for the EU and Russian to fall out.
So to posters here i say take a step back from what you are told by the media and think for yourself.

You must be a "call of duty" expert.

Scorched earth policy in war is to leave nothing behind for the enemy.

Why would Russia scorch the earth of a region it "wants to conquer"?

    think before you post.
