Ducker said Van Gaal won't meet players until 5:30. Literally seconds later the United account says he's meeting them now. Maybe nobody has any inside scoop in United anymore.

I honestly think this is the situation, and it's all down to the man shaking Eddie's hand in the above photo.

I'm telling you's, there is a pure media blackout. Even had a casual chat with one of the F365 writers, now they don't have any direct ties or sources in clubs, but they even think it's so blatantly obvious there is information being shared from the execs/club to journalists like there was last season.

Saying the Vidal story is just the ultimate proof of that.

I firmly believe that either be it LVG, or maybe Woodward learning from last year, have cooled off with the pally pally stuff with journalists, and instead are keeping tight lipped on business, which is the right way to do it.

I notice on Twitter a lot of the old reliables getting a lot of stick and abuse. In fairness not their fault. Last season they were getting fed information from Woodward, Moyes and the exec's directly. Now they are gathering their information from the potential selling club, players national FA and contacts, and everyone bar MUFC. No wonder everything is so conflicting.

The unfortunate position for them is that most of their popularity is based of being "itk" at United. Now that they arnt, they are having wild stabs to hopefully latch onto some form of accuracy, but it just ends up lumping them into the "unreliable" category.

For the Vidal story, you really want to try find people with good, reliable connections, to Juventus. In other words, look at Italian journalists.

Accoridng to reddit who do a really detailed rating on reliables, the italian journalist close to Juve, are indicating that this deal will more then likely happen, and there is a little bit of fronting on Juves front, to not upset fans, especially after losing the manager that brought them such recent success.

A problem here is Conte wanted to reshape the squad and in order to do this Vidal or Pogba needed to be sold which he didn't accept. A new manager coming in might not want such an overall, and prefer to keep Vidal.

That's where the real issue lies, similar to the Shaw deal, I doubt a sale will happen until a new manager is in place. As you don't want to to put off potential high calibre managers, with the club selling a prized asset.

I'd maybe guess part of the preliminary for a new manager, is that if they want new players they will need to sell one of the two in order to generate revenue for new players.

At this point I think it's in our best interest to ensure Juve get a new manager ASAP. I know clubs can sell players without a manager, but a club like Juve want a big name, and a big name would be reluctant after watching the owner sell a big star.

    Schweinsteiger

Can anyone see them letting both him and Kroos leave at the same time? I can't anyway.

just on that, the shaw deal was basically done on the last day of the season when utd played Southampton, he was always joining united was just England going to the world cup put the deal on hold. no doubt managers that interviewed for the job were told that both lallana and shaw were both being sold but there would be funds available.

allegri has also been named juve manager already and would have no say on the vidal deal, juventus owe lots of money and they need to sell one of their assets this summer

Schweinsteiger is 30 in a few weeks, if he was cheap I wouldn't be against it, Bayern would probably replace him with Vidal which would be another kick in the teeth for us

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,134 ✭✭✭✭Rayne Wooney

@daniellee51: @howardnurse Really? I've read from pretty well respected journalists who expect the deal to go ahead. Nothing in it at all???

@howardnurse: @daniellee51 not at the moment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,346 ✭✭✭✭homerjay2005

it looks like Andy Mitten is the ONLY person who is saying Vidal is going ahead, practically everybody else now thinks the deal is dead, with some saying there was never anything in it.

its pretty much the Thiago and Wesley "deal" all over again.

Call me foolish but i still think Vidal will be a united player before the window closes.......dont know why i think that, just a feeling......

I agree with the most part of what people are saying Doc, the old reliables really don't have a clue anymore and so are left speculating.

However I think its mostly the Luke Shaw transfer where they learnt their lesson fully after the debacle of last Summer. United apparently made a bid directly to Southampton during or after the last game of the season whilst the squad was at St. Mary's. Southampton released this information officially almost as soon as they could, rejecting it and releasing the value of the bid in the hope that a bidding war ensued and when that did not happen they prayed that Shaw would shine at the WC. This did not happen either so leverage was removed from them and they sold him at the price United possibly bid for him in the first place, with maybe a few million add ons just to save face for Southampton. In the meantime all United fans were saying 'have we learnt nowt from last summer ffs???'.

Cue the next transfer and it was pretty much done in the space of three days. A transfer of nearly £30M was done with no hitches bar an official rejection on Bilbao's site when every man and his dog knew the game was up. Again the information released was entirely from Bilbao's end and any journalist connected to them.

Now with Vidal, all information is coming from journalists close to Juve and the player himself. Added to the mix is a manager quitting and depending on who you ask this is either going to help or hinder the transfer.

It's also the reason why I am worried that no other targets are being looked at, because the same format is not being followed with the other supposed targets (Dortmund have not rejected a bid for Hummels and no one is tweeting about him). I agree midfield has been crying out for years for improvements, however the club has lost/ about to lose the three most experienced defenders they have and this needs to be replaced. Evans I suppose is 26 now and has 3 league titles so he may be seen as the experience however I feel its important to bring in one guy at least who has seen it all before. Just my two cents anyways

I wouldnt pay much attention to Nurse tbh.

Not saying Vidal is signing but wouldnt make my mind up either way based on Howard Nurse.

One things for sure, the need to sign another CM has been intensified(if that is possible) with our nearest rivals activity in the transfer market this summer.
It will be very disappointing if another quality CM isnt brought in.

I'd love to see Schweinsteiger brought in, if the price was realistic of course. We could possibly get 2-3 seasons out of him, enough for a temporary fix which at this point is way better than no fix at all. As recently as last Sunday night, the man has shown that he is still a beast.

Some of us here seem to be certain that LVG will bring in Strootman eventually, Schweinsteiger could definitely keep his place 'warm' until that happens. Sad thing is though, if the club had have been sensible last summer Strootman would have already been here waiting on Van Gaal.

I'm not counting the Vidal deal down and out yet though, if anything the last few weeks have shown that the journos haven't a clue and are filling their column inches (as they need to do to to earn a living) with notions and conjecture. This is a positive in my eyes, the club had become way too leaky with their dealings last summer.

Also, the club have done good business so far effectively without a manager at the helm. Now that LVG is fully on board, I expect our transfer activity to be far from over this summer.

He 'broke' it after the BBC did. So much for being ITK

He also quotes Simon Stone's tweet when talking about Vidal, again BBC guy based in Manchester

    @sstoney67
Juventus' desire to keep Vidal doesn't look like it is going to be tested by Utd. Not in for Rodriguez either.

He was mentioning this morning no Vidal deal, and then published link to his article, and he started getting slaughtered by United fans over it

He's just retweeting all the abuse and being all cryptic and lazy with his tweets about United news.

He's saying its just letting the people know the abuse journalists get, other journalists saying he needs to grow up and get thick skin.

In fairness though he is getting some abuse.

I'm not sure why but Twitter has turned steadily into this absolute keyboard warrior fest for little nackers and shams.

Just further cements my belief the internet was a better place when not everyone could get on it, and Apple have a lot of **** to answer for :D
