In more positive news, seems the De Vrij could be on the move after the below quote from Feyenoord
"Stefan is a player who came through our youth academy and played in the first team for five years.

"He played an amazing World Cup and his contract is due to expire in one year.

"If the right club comes along and puts in a good offer, we will definitely look at it.

Feyenoord coach however has stated he doesnt want to sell him and the club should ensure he is kept.

Never expected Moratta or anyone from Juventus to say Vidal will leave or for sale in press. It's just ridiculous. I think nothing has changed. To sign him we have to make a huge bid to make Juve consider selling him.

    Didn't he start training yesterday?

Light training, he's still some way off kicking a ball apparently

Sent message of support to Jamie Jackson, saying it is not his fault if united have stopped the leaks and journalists are left guessing.

Not full training. It'll be a while before he's ready to play, probably early October.
It would be a risk, and extremely difficult, to buy him in January. If he is a target for us, it won't happen until next summer.

    Oh Ronaldo is coming back..

The evidence was on Sky sports, they were showing when United won the title in 2009, Ronaldo then said he was really really happy at United.
He said the same about Real Madrid recently, he said he was really really happy.

Funny thing is, all these journos definitely know that we aren't in for Vidal. But have no idea whatsoever about any other player that we are after... Strange that.

Or perhaps our summer signings were Shaw and Herrera, and the manager wants to go into the season with what we've got. I certainly hope this isn't the case, though. Rafeal, Evans and Jones are injury prone, and we have no back up for Luke Shaw. And of course we have a fairly weak midfield (even after the signing of Herrera). I think the current squad might find it difficult to get top 4.

Fcuk sake people its pretty obvious NONE of the press have a clue of whats happening inside the club anymore
    - Woodward learned his lessons from last summer. The leaks have been plugged
    - Journalists have no familiarity with LVG and his staff. No leaks or ITK source quotes coming from there.
    - Herrera and Shaw deals were only confirmed by journalists as the press release was issued. Speculate all they like but they never get it 100% right
    - They can all speculate but no one can say for definite whats happening

Would it be too late to jump on whatever ''deal'' Arsenal are apparently knocking out for Khedira?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,080 ✭✭✭✭Maximus Alexander

The thing is, if all the journalists are wrong and have no sources, then we have no reason to believe Vidal might sign. Might as well have pulled any name out of a hat.

I saw Jones at 17 mark Drogba and get Man of the Match i was delighted when we signed him. Since then he has been played all over field and is not much more developed at cb than before he joined the club. If he had chose Liverpool, Arsenal or we loaned him out for first team football i have no doubt he would have been first choice at the world cup and at united. He is still raw and is going to make mistakes if he gets first team football he will come good but people will need to be patient. I have no doubt LVG will get the best out of him.

Vidal said there is a United option there so the club must have been in contact, whether contact has ceased or is going further is nothing but guessing as it's clear the journalists are not in the loop

We'll just have to wait and see what happens

Tbf, all our contact up until now could have been with/through Vidal's agent making all the ''no contact between the clubs'' statements true.

If we don't get Vidal this summer (which is very hard to know but indications from Juve themselves seem bent on keeping him) we will be in the forefront for him next year should we obtain CL status. This is the 4th year of a 5 year contract so when summer rolls around next season Juve may have no choice but to unload him for cash or let him leave on the free the year after!

Seriously lads, mass hysteria here again.

It's obvious (especially following the Ander Herrera transfer) that even the most reliable journalists (and I'm including James Ducker) are being fed a line from the press office. The only noise with regards the transfer of Vidal, is from the side that Man United's PR men can't control - which is on the Italian and Chilean side (a bit like the way Canda Ser broke the Herrera deal)

I've been critical of the journalists on other forums, especially the fact that they should at this stage of their careers and with the resources at their disposal at the likes of the Guardian and The Times, be able to draw information from another set of contacts outside of the English clubs.

I think that's why Jamie Jackson is throwing a strop on Twitter, he's fearful that the club have dangled him a bit of bait and he's taken it as gospel and has no way to disprove it (unlike Andy Mitten, who I believe has a larger network)

Simply put, the more reliable journo's have now resorted to feeding off the press offices briefings (especially McDonnell and Jackson) and are (at this moment in time) no more than tabloid hacks.

The club has shut up shop and will work on the deals as they do.

Just looking at the pre-season games on SSN. Seems to be a high standard baring LA Galaxy. Some change to what Moyes had last year and the usual Asia tour. Woodword going for the US $ market?

He extended his contract in December and it runs until 2017. Still think there is something in it.

If Moyes were in charge, he would probably grumble about how tough our start to preseason was!

Arsenal look like they'll be getting Khedira for around £20m!

He's still only 27 too. Mightn't be Vidals level but he's quite an underrated player by many people.

That's a seriously good piece of business if they manage to pull it off.

Ronaldo signed a new contract a year before he left for real Madrid, Nani signed a new contract last year and looks like he's on his way, Evra only just extended his contract and looks like he's on his way and that Uruguayan who likes to bite people only signed a new contract last year.
Most of the time the club knows the player is on his way and want a btter price for the player which they will get with a longer contract

"It will be difficult to keep winning at juventus" - conte.

Why? They're the best team in Italy.
And didn't moratti say that conte had resigned for personal reasons?

Sounds to me like a manager who had accepted he was going to lose his best player(s)

So...fúck all craic going here at the moment, maybe this is the calm before the storm with regards to another transfer, maybe it isn't though.

Just to pass the time and to discuss, what would your ideal starting line-up and formation be with the squad as it currently is?

My own would go like this...

    ...................De Gea..................
    .............Jones.....Evans.............
    Raf...................................Shaw
    ..........Herrera.....Carrick............
    ...................Mata......................
    ..........Rooney.......Januzaj..........
    ....................RVP......................

I'd love to have Kagawa in that line-up, with Mata, since the 2 of them played well together for a few games towards the end of last season but I feel this coming season it will be an 'either/or' situation with Mata and Kags.

Hopefully (excepting the signing of a Reus or Di Maria type) this will be a strong season for Adnan. He has gained serious experience from season 13/14 and it should be built on over 14/15.

With the above line-up, I'm going with a 4-2-3-1 approach, with the '3' rotating around rather than being fixed in those positions, supplying RVP up top.

Is that a lineup that includes only players that actually currently play for the club?!

    What is this tomfoolery?!

Looks good though! Only one id like to replace is Carrick. Depth on the bench would be good too.

LvG's diary - day one, Manchester

8 40: picked up at airport by Ed in a Chevrolet. A f***ing Chevrolet. Look at that logo -- it's too ****ing big and the colour doesn't suit the car. Tell Ed to get new car sponsor.

    9.30: meet players at Carrington

9.31: send Anderson to do some laps

9.40: Evra asks to see my balls. Ha ha, a "character." Which reminds me...

9.45: take Ed's copy of The Art of War and tell him he'll get it back when he's done the Evra/Vidal swap

9.50: Rooney comes to me after. "Who's going to be the new club captain, gaffer?" he says. I smile and pat him paternalistically on head, surprised by how wiry his hair is, and walk away. He tries hard, Rooney, but is a little stupid

10.00: training. Kagawa is surprisingly serious, unlike his twitter account. "Hey Shinji!" I shout. "You want to be play-a-maker?" Everyone stares at me

10.05: send Anderson for more laps

10.30: tell them we'll practice 4-3-3. Giggsy says "but this was always crossing practice time." He looks at me; I look at him; we all laugh.

12.30: lunch. Anderson goes for seconds. Send him for more laps.

12.35: overhear Ashley Young tell Cleverley how he got a new passport for the US tour. Ha ha ha ha ha ha! Must remember to have chat with him before plane leaves on Friday...

14.00: go to office. Put RVP photo on desk

14.15: look through emails. One from Mourinho - "The Special One welcomes you to England." Send reply - "I will lay waste to you, your family, and everyone you love. I will crush your spirit until you beg me to put you out of your misery. I will raze your pathetic stadium to the ground and salt the earth around it for miles.
    Cheers :)
    Louis."

14.20: email from Wenger - "Bonne chance, mon ami." Send reply - "F*ck off."

15.00: send Anderson to do more laps

15.15: check with Ed. Moratta wants Evra AND money. Tell Ed to remind him that's what Conte said too. Where is Conte now?

16.00: watch youth team. Very good! Must also chat with Cleverley before Friday...

16.30: mail from Pelligrini - "welcome to Manchester." Is okay, I respect Pellegrini. I sell him Chris Smalling

17.00: email from someone called "Brendan Rogers" - "best of luck, mucker ;) but not too much, eh." Obviously spam. Delete.

17.30: Ed is back with good news. We have Vidal! Give him back The Art of War. Take his Wolf Of Wall Street DVD (who uses DVDs these days???) and tell him to get me Hummels.

18.00: send Anderson for more laps

Yep. Hopefully soon enough to calm everybody down a bit but I expect to be fairly happy with the outcome when August comes around.
