Funny that you have to fit it in, this is what I think when I read it...
    pseudo-intellectual

    1. One who attempts to flex intellect that does not exist within his or her own mind.

    2. Can probably be found with a thesaurus in hand, while in a chat room, looking up new insults that are synonymous with "stupid" in order to boost his or her own undeserved ego.

    LOL.

That's just what was there, very apt though, thought the part about being in a Chat Room with a Thesaurus in hand was funny, might be to close to the bone though, most pseudo intellectuals are a bit precious for that stuff though...

Tbh, I don't know what about the Israel - Palestinian conflict get people's attention so much.
It's one of the least deadly current conflicts but gets most traction by the lefties.

Lefties tend to choose easy conflicts where the newspapers can give them a clear enemy. African or Asian conflicts are too complex for the general leftie to get upset about. When was the last time a leftie started a thread anywhere on boards about Nigeria, Sudan or Burma?

    "Choose your battles" indeed...

Haha, yeah, you never hear any right wing ranting about it at all do you?

The cultural and religious significance of the actual location of the conflict has a lot to do with it. The very blatant support (ideological and financial) of Israel's tactics by the US is pretty unusual too- no doubt they're involved in many shady dealings around the world but they have the decency to at least keep them shady. The constant disparity between the rates of casualties and the amount of civilians and children killed by, and subsequently shrugged off by, Israel and many of its supporters is also an important factor.

Like you say, there are a lot of complex conflicts in regions where the media has far less means or inclination to cover them, but what, you have to pass an African-politics competency test before you're allowed to express the opinion that killing ten, twenty or a hundred Palestinians for every Israeli is not right? You shouldn't boil an egg unless you can make a soufflé? People's opinions on it have a lot more variety than you're letting on too, not everyone who disagrees with Israel's handling of the situation disagrees with their right to exist, and I would say MOST people who disagree with Israel also disagree with Hamas' tactics.

And by the way, a lot of us are right-handed :pac:

I don't know why you even mention South Africa its not the same issue at all. The Blacks in South Africa were never the oppressor stealing land. The Israeli settlers most certainly are.

Illegal Settlements are not the preserve of Isreali Settlers, the comment of "all adults in Illegal Settlements are fair game" is just out and out stupid, there are Illegal Settlers in Ireland who make their home on sides of Roads, are they "Fair Game"...

If he said "all adult Isreali Settlers in disputed territory are fair game" it would only be half as stupid thing to say

Your crazy interpretation of what i said is whats stupid.

Are you trying to defend a generalised statement? I love how you think Violence against one side is valid, while frothing at the mouth at violence against the other side, odd to say the least...

Maybe Zimbabwe would be better, with the genocide of Whites, not high profile enough for you maybe???

White people are not trendy enough to support.

Maybe you could stop trolling and stick to the subject at hand. I was referring to Israel. If you want to talk about South Africa, Zimbabwe or Travellers go start a thread on it. If my memory serves me correctly you are not a young man so stop behaving like a child.

Then why does the IDF spend millions and millions on smart bombs and weapons that can target just these rocket launchers.

they don't, they use some the odd time.
They could just drop dumb bombs all over the place for much cheaper and less effort but they don't.

but they do, they use dumb bombs and cluster bombs
Hamas set up these launchers in sites with many civilians close by with the intent of making the IDF look bad by targeting them.

probably, but they don't need to make the IDF look bad as the IDF do that all by themselves by deliberately slaughtering civilians for fun.

Sure a bunch of terrorist hiding amongst civilians for maximum collateral damage to further their own cause, and a peoples who have vowed to never be victims again is the same thing.

    bit unfair

i am far from rent a crowd and have sympathy for the Palestinians
i think you underestimate the amount of "normal" people who find how the Israelis act abhorrent

in the last 6 days they have killed 34 children , and as we know , children are the biggest threat to Israel and Israels security

no justification , none at all

in my earlier posts on this thread - you should try reading it .

i will say it again - i do not condone the actions of Hamas , i do not condone the actions of Israel . i never condone murder of non combatants , women and children

hope that clears up any ambiguity

It's war. War is ugly. Innocent people die. The difference is Israel is trying to minimise their casualties. Hamas is banking on Palestinians casualties.

Hamas fire their (admittedly sh1t) rockets from schools, hospitals and residential apartment blocks, knowing that Israel will track the launch sites and return fire. Rather than protecting their fellow Palestinians or evacuating the areas, Hamas wait for the Israeli strikes with cameras at the ready, so they can put pictures of dying babies on the internet as soon as possible. By all means feel sorry for the average Palestian family living through this but don't let there be any doubt that Hamas are wilfully putting their own into the firing line to exploit the media potential.

i would beg to differ , and so does the body count 146 as we speak , nearly 40 kids 60 women , the rest men

lots of minimization in those numbers

    this i do , this i do

i care not for the politics of this sad cluster **** , im just not into a bigger force with little damage or casualty inflicted , taking inappropriate actions against a largely un armed population , enclosed in a ghetto

there is no justification for the response

as for your dying babies remark , how quick do you think the Israeli / us media would have the death of 1 Israeli child as the head line ? but 40 Palestinian kids just wont get the same air time

    why is that ;)

Perhaps you need to look over the border to some place like Syria to have a frame of reference as to what might happen were a military not to try to reduce casualties.

One of the interesting psychological effects of modern war in the West is that people have utterly lost their sense of perspective as to just how much of a meatgrinder a real war is, as we've not had one a no-restraint one in a while. This applies both in terms of national casualties (20 Americans killed in a day is considered a "national disaster, what are we doing in Afghanistan" sort of thing), and third party casualties, such as Palestine.

    i get this - really i do

but you are comparing the death rate from a dictatorship fighting radical Islamist , to a apparent democracy who abide by Geneva convention and such like dropping bombs of a largely passive population
