Have you fed them much? I've a few as well but they're lighter than yours.

I see as part of glas/ tams there will be a grant towards cattle weighing equipment. Was going to buy but will hold off now

They are super weanlings. You have them turned into great cattle. Fair play.

Hopefully they see the boat and you're not shafted by the way factory prices have gone. You deserve to do well with them.

Is there a danger of them getting to fat for the boat?

For breeding JDI? Look to be nice quiet heifers along with the quality.

They sure are. They're weaned 3-4 weeks now and have turned inside out in the last week. I didn't think much of them but they now look twice as good as they did previously! On good grass now till housing and will be getting AI in Dec to calve down at 24m.

Super animals JDI! The creme de la creme. Great grass. Love seeing the clover coming through also. Is it aftergrass?

Gee shucks ;). They're on good land at the minute. Having it in paddocks has really brought it on. It was topped after last grazing and got a shake of pasture sward.

Her dams breeding put her down as a possible replacement heifer at birth, but now her arse says noooooo. Ignore the frisky young'un behind her! She's a bt confused about her sexuality:D

Is that an ERE calf Kovu?

Crossmolina Euro, came out huge and is retaining that growth rate. His figures for breeding heifers out of him aren't too promosing but she'd have been on the possible list is she hadn't started putting up so much muscle. No nuts yet so she'd only get bigger as well.

I'll sell her to you Farrell ;) We have an abundance of heifers this year so being picky this year.

See how cash flow goes later, might get a few for the winter.
Lots of heifers ourselves too, others saying same.

Are people afraid of good ended heifers will be hard calved, or is there other issues?

Wouldn't be a major thing, issue would be starving them back enough to calve naturally. By rights if we wanted to keep the heifer above, she'd be let off with another couple of picked out heifers and summered by themselves with very scant ration so they wouldn't be putting up mud fat at the udder.

CMX heifers also don't have the best prospects on ICBF data, we've a PIO one plus two PB LMs off ERE & CWI that look better.

Heard that quote recently "fat on udder" would calf nuts do it, or just beef ration

I couldn't tell you if there was a difference to be honest:eek: assume it would be any sort of high protein ration to put flesh on quickly.

Never use ration here any more, too much dust and calves were leaving it behind & attracting greybacks and mags. Calf nuts all the way! Bit of icing sugar over them in a basin to start them off;)

If their energy intake exceeds their demand they'll put on fat in the udder which impedes subsequent mammary tissue development. So whether it's nuts or ration it wouldn't matter. If being held for breeding they don't need much feeding anyway.

I like your icing sugar idea. I give mine some nuts in the creep area in early spring. Then when it comes to weaning time there is no training required. Nuts all the way...

That's also a great idea. Pity most of ours were still inside Mammy at that time:D

Easiest thing is to show you! She's out of the LIM bull Paco, prob long dead. Dam was a LM/brfr/sim mix.
Perfect cow for Leitrim land, small, light and good milk.
