Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Dunno about that. Wasn't there talk a while back of making it a PPP? I know there are other more urgent ones to be done first but it could take place after 2016.

Noticed some good news and some bad there:

The N4 Collooney-Castlebaldwin upgrade has been reactivated by the NRA on the sly. This will upgrade a poor-quality stretch of the N4 south of Sligo.

The bad news is that they are going to build it as standard single carriageway! This beggars belief. The existing road is already at this standard! Surely we should be standardising on dual minimum for the whole N4 route?

That was intended to be a mix of Type 2 and Type 1 - motorway standard - DC. Single is a complete waste of money and unlikely to be much cheaper.

http://www.sligotoday.ie/details.php?id=19536 suggests they want to do it Banbridge Bypass style - buy the land and build all structures for dual but only lay single. The Banbridge BP has long since been dualled, but its a pointless penny pinching exercise and I fail to see how they could do a T2DC like this - its inherently a T1 layout.

Even a half dualller is better than what is there now. Given the current state of the public finances the same may be done to the awful stretch north of Sligo too.

I doubt north of Sligo is anywhere near in the list of priorities. Traffic counts id imagine drop off significantly for anyone heading towards Donegal. Much less of a risk accident-wise than the N4 stretch.

Well that is not quite so bad.

Looks like the CPO's for the Westport to Turlough dual carriage way will be going a head shortly.

    http://www.midwestradio.ie/index.php/news/21359-taoiseach-welcomes-confirmation-of-cpos-for-n5-from-turlough-to-westport

Will likely be started before the next election.

that is great news, that road to Westport is lethal and has claimed many road deaths in recent years..

If he doesn't do something soon in his own constituency soon there is a very real chance that he will not be elected to the next Dail in Mayo. No Taoiseach or Minister have done less for there own constituency. Less and less jobs here every single month. Castlebar has a disturbing amount of closed businesses on its main streets, very few people under 30 left here:(.

Only for the wind/wave/biomass energy and Gas that is coming online from Mayo and the jobs its providing it would be a lot worse down here. Shell on there own expense have done more to improve the roads in west mayo than 50 years of government. Its Botox/Allergan thats getting the N5 to westport pushed through.

The N5/N26/N58 is also proceeding with route selection and now down to two preferred routes, see below. Can't see this part starting anytime soon unless coke or Hollister threaten to pull out due to the state of the road.

Maybe he's has bigger things on his mind like not letting the country sink into bankruptcy?

I agree and would suggest we are still in bankruptcy. Just saying he will not get re-elected if he continues to neglect some of the local issues that he was elected locally to address. Probably off topic at this point.....so i'll leave it at that.

Just to be clear, are they going to upgrade Foxford-Bohola and Foxford-Swinford or just one?

There will be a dual carriage way from Turlough to Bohola, bypassing Ballyvary. This will link onto the Dual Carriageway from Westport.

A separate dual road will be built from Mount Falcon outside Ballina bypassing Foxford and linking onto the dual carriageway on the Castlebar side of Ballyvary.

Separately the N26 from Swinford to Ballina will have an inline upgrade, with a bypass of Swinford and Foxford included.

So basically the Ballina - Bohola route is been scrapped as it does not suit those travelling to Dublin or those going to Castlebar/Westport. Instead there will be two separate routes.

Would be handy to extend N26 from Swinford to the N17.

Was kind of thinking that too - it seems obvious given the very short distance involved.

Primary, possibly, but it doesn't hold a candle to the N56s wonderful sightlines and vertical alignment

Go further down between Dromore west and the Junction for Enniscrone and its like cobblestone. Soon as you cross the Mayo border its smooth again.
