So he's not signing for Liverpool again then! :p

It seems odd that Lovren would put in a transfer request the day before the world cup kicks off.

Its not football but interesting glimpse behind a player
Liverpool and England star Rickie Lambert’s dad has been sacked from his retail warehouse job after breaking the glass on a vending machine.

Ray Lambert, aged 54, says he was fired after a panel broke when he tried to retrieve a £1 cup of coffee.

He was escorted from a Matalan distribution centre in Knowsley, Merseyside, by security guards last week and has now lost his £20,000-a-year job.

A former colleague told the Daily Mail: “It’s a joke. Loads of people give that machine a nudge when it doesn’t work properly.

“But to sack him for something as trivial as that was pathetic.

“Ray’s worked at that warehouse ever since it opened. He had put his money into the vending machine to buy the coffee but the cup got lodged in the machine.

“He gave it a little shove to try and dislodge it but accidentally broke the glass panel.

“It wasn’t done with any malice. It had got stuck and he was trying to get it out.”

A Matalan spokeswoman said: “Matalan confirms that an employee was recently dismissed from the company following an act of gross misconduct involving substantial damage to company property.

His dad could have quit a very modestly paid job a few years ago I imagine and now he probably won't work again. Luckily he won't need to.

I'd say there's a few bits missing from that story!

By all accounts( Twitter, Daily Mail & The Express) he put it in on May 30th because Southampton wouldn't reply to him about his future at the club.

Its Roberto Mancini i feel sorry for.

He decides to accept the offer of becoming Southampton boss to manage Loveren, Lallana and Lambert and finds them gone by the time he flies in:D

Yep - we should be waaay past looking at players like that.
We got Can for probably a similar fee...that's a no brainer!

Hold tough now a second how are you so certain that Can would be a better player than Delph? I'm not entirely convinced by that myself

Lovren putting in a transfer request is good for Liverpool if they actually go for him. Having CL is a great edge to have in negotiations

Normally I'd not pay any attention to the Metro but this story is a bit more left field than what they usually trade in - maybe there is something to it.

Does anyone remember Lovren RTing and interacting with loads of LFC fans on Twitter last year before Southampton signed him?

    EDIT: I'm not crazy!

Think he's an LFC fan too!

Not a hope in hell of the young man signing for an English club in the next 2 years. Seems to have a solid family background and knows playing week in week out is more important than making a move and risking sitting on the bench or playing for the reserves. Added to that he still lives at home with mammy and daddy.....and comes from a Schlake family.

Maybe he should legally change his surname to Power.

Lovren is a left sided CB. We going to stick him on the right and leave Sakho at left or......?

Re Max Meyer, this is from February, clearly rather more than 8 million required if this is right

    Agreed.

I've mentioned him a couple of times here in the past, if we were in the market for a young CAM, I'd love it for us to sign him, but I have little doubt he'll stay at Schalke. I'd rather sign him over Draxler!

Amusing the amount of people who take English press word at face value when it comes to signing players from the Bundesliga though.

Delph is 24, and probably just had his first consistantly good season, but also jumped onto a lot of lists thanks to ONE good goal. He wasn;t even a regular in the previous season, in a TERRIBLE Villa side.

Can is 20, has come through the Bayern academy, and had a full season in a CL qualifying team.

I am PRETTY sure that when it all washes out, Can is a better bet...

We all hope he will be seeing as he has been signed. But just because he came from the Bayern academy (why isnt he still with them?) and Leverkusen are hardly the benchmark for CL performance either.

Delph's goal isnt something i'm familar with and the fact that he's 24 isnt a worry for me either as I would be more concerned about his ability to do something going forward. All told I reckon Delph would be a better option that Lucas as a reserve midfielder and we will have to see if he'd be better than Can.

But I am stating it now that I have my reservations over Can as to how effective he will be

That's fair, but I think if Delph was at our standard (given he is English), he'd have been snapped up by a batter side by now. He's a bit lighweight, can't control a game as someone like Allen or Hendo can, so I don't see how he'd fit...

    +1

Why we're even talking about Fabian Delph is beyond me.

Max Meyer and Leon Goretzka will both go for big money in the next few years. I watched Goretzka in a few games at Bochum last year and it was evident he had massive potential. No surprise he had a solid first year for Schalke and even made his national team debut.

Rafa says he cant afford Reina's wages. Just trying to talk the price down?

Probably more a case of alerting Reina and agent to drop wage demands.

You'd think Reina would want a gig wouldn't you? Just drop your price, I'm sure I could scrape by on say 40k a week.

Could possibly even make that leap to broadband. Just imagine the gifs, Mike!
