For those wondering about beans: I have just started on a packet of Iltuo Caffe from ZiCaffe and am getting really good results from it. I bought mine from Campo Di Fiori in Bray for €18, it's also available online: http://www.aromatico.co.uk/zicaffe-coffee-espresso-caffe-220lbs-beans-p-115.html

By the way, minimum order on Aromatico seems to be £50 - anyone in North Wicklow/South Dublin interested in a group buy to save on postage? Send me a PM if interested.

I just missed the offer on these machines, anyone see them on offer elsewhere?

    cheers!

Used it for the last 3days and it worked great. But this morning it won't grind the beans and the second light is coming on b12. I thought it might be looking for water hardness to be set . I did that but still no luck.

Any thought before I get on to customer care.
    Thanks

That light means the ground container is full. Check the manual for instructions to empty it. There's also an explanation for all the lights in the manual.

Thanks , did all that . I also went on delonghi site which recommended vacuuming out the grinder in case a stone it stuck .
Running out of options . I wonder which is best to do next ...get on to Amazon or delonghi about fault?

Had a look through the manual as well. As you say it seems to indicate something up with the grounds holder. I wonder could it be a problem with the connection to say that holderer is in position. Maybe remove infuser and reposition everything.

I will try do that again. I have had a gaggia syncrony for the last 10 years and i know how important it is for everything to be in place.but this sounds extra noisey and seems if beans arent feeding into grinder.i have hoovered it out 3 or 4 times but no luck.
Thanks for reply and any more ideas would be appreciated

I had that too. There's something stuck in your grinder. Hoovering might not solve it. Take out the water container and the whole bottom tray. Unplug the machine and turn it upside down and shake it a good bit. Problem solved :D

They have a habit of repeating the same offer in a few weeks. I would just hold tight for now.

I'm surprised it didn't. Did you give it a good shake / a few hard knocks when it was upside down? Did you have a wee poke in the grinder with a toothpick / sushi stick also while upside down?

This could be completely wrong but is there a way to clean out a burr grinder using rice. It might be for a hand grinder but could damage the machine....

I did it 3 times upside down and beans came out that you could not see at all . I will see what the say in the morning

All I can say is try it again :)

If you get an engineer out and he cleans out the grinder and gets it to work, you will have to pay for it. It's not covered under warranty.

I will give it one last bash today, Excuse the Pun.
I was on to delonghi today and can send it back to Amazon for replacement but my concern is that amazon dont have any in stock at the minute and they may not be able to supply me with a replacement.

I also have the same problem with the coffee holder. Amazon will refund machine plus postage, although I'd prefer a replacement.

Not sounding good. 2 machines damaged from this forumn already...

Not damaged, most likely just a stone or a hard thing stuck in the grinder like in mine. Blame the provider of the coffee, not the maker of the machine ;)

Any update from Amazon on the problems or did you get sorted???????

Just before I left work today I noticed a red light flashing, 3rd from the left.

According to the manual its either, coffee beans empty, blockage or requires descaling. The machine has only ground about 1.5kgs of beans, would it need to be descaled so soon?

Also, I'm finding it difficult to remove the grinder, the piece with the two red tabs/clips. It seems to be caught at the base. I don't want to force anything.

I only gave it a few minutes as I was in as rush, I'll try it again in the morning but am I missing something?

I haven't had a chance to try one last time to remove blockage . I will give it a good go on Saturday morning .

For anybody looking to try the Sumatra Mandheling beans (mentioned earlier in this thread) - the 1kg bags are back in stock

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,764 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Cheaper if you buy them by the 4kg: €49.95 (and free shipping if you spend more than €50)

Opening my last kg bag of them today - must get more :D

Hoping they are as nice as people say ... will go for 4kg if I like!

They are very nice. And if you think about it, not that expensive either. It's €12.50 per kg, so €2.50 per 200g

I used to buy Lidl ground espresso for my cheap espresso maker, which was the cheapest half decent ground espresso I have found at €2.59 per 200g. The Mandheling is far, far superior to that and a little bit cheaper :)

I've been using one of these machines intensively for about 2 years with no problems whatsoever.

Have only had to descale it twice.

Having looked around - it's a great price - most online retailers are charging average €24 for 1kg!

Bailies Espresso Strarter Pack arrived for me today - espresso starter pack for £8 including postage

The kind of coffee you'll get for €24 a kg (or more) - top quality beans, freshly roasted, is not comparable to the stuff you get from discount coffee. The Bailies starter pack is great value though - try it compared to the discount coffee beans.
