Ugh. Don't get me started on crappy generic they play in retail chains. I work here in one in Dublin and they keep playing these songs on a loop. One of the songs goes like this: ""Give me STAAAAACCCIIIEEE, down on my head, down on my knees.". It's always played every few hours. The person who wrote that song was in a funny mood that day.

I preferred the song of the Bob the Builder machine outside my last job. It used to come out spontaneously at regular intervals 'Can we fix it' and flash its car lights. It was for kids.

If you've been brainwashed into humming along you might as well have the right name. Its Luka. ".....I live upstairs from you, I guess you think you've seen me before....."

Whatever about tesco playing cover versions but Jesus you'd think that'd they'd get some decent singers for them. All the tracks sound like a bag of cats being beaten to death off a wall.

They've stopped playing cover versions all together now in tesco everywhere they went for the even more affordable option! Fake songs altogether!!

I wish the manager of Tesco would actually read this thread! Paying customers are refusing to spend money there because the music is so bad!! >:(

i think tescos douglas already know that, everytime i'm in there the tv's upstairs are on full volume, and downstairs they have a little portable cd player blasting out various cds over the music played throughout the store. :D

I worked in a hardware store before and they replaced all the pop music they played with cover versions so that they didn't have to pay any royalties, the originals were bad enough
    This is the correct answer

If stores play original recordings, they are liable to pay royalties to IMRO

I love music, but I can't understand why it has to intrude into every apsect of ones life.

B&Q have good music. But then I'm only in there for a few minutes usually. If you are stuck there all day, maybe not so much.

I worked in Centra in 2006 and I still hear some of the same music in there when I go in these days. It must destroy the staff's lives.
Honestly? You ignore it after a while.

Worked in Smyths years ago but luckily they were authorised to play the radio...sadly 98fm was the choice of management :(

Some 'great' tunes on this thread, gave me a laugh. That When I was the Man song is fantastically terrible :pac: And Father John, good god! Cant imagine how painful it would be to work while listening to that rubbish.

    Thanks for the laughs!

Strangely enough the shopping centres themselves seem to stick with the real music. You'd think the management of Dunnes' in particular would just turn off the junk music and ask the mall outside to turn up theirs!

Don't know if they play it in any other Tesco stores, but EVERY SINGLE TIME I am in Clarehall I hear "What if God was one of us". Argh!

I assume you mean Luka by Suzanne Vega.

It's actually a good song but anything would be irritating if you had to listen to it non-stop.

I hear it about twice a day quite depressing really I could never catch her name it was a song that I would not really have liked to start with. It's funny it's currently the only song I know I hear all the time the rest I seem to have shut off for you do forget them thankfully. I do think they play some songs more often than others.

I've noticed those woeful cover songs in Tesco, I pity the staff. I'd rather no music than that! Almost makes me grateful that the bookshop I worked in over a few summers played 'soothing' whale music rather than that dire rubbish.

Dunnes in Pavilions turned the music in the food hall right down which is a good step in the right direction but the electronic dance crap that is usually piped around the centre is not very nice to listen to :P They have it so loud as well you can hear it right to the back of Dunnes!

May I ask what B&Q you visit?!? It's usually just rubbish cover versions absolutely blaring through the crappy PA system!!

When me and the other half are doing the shopping in Tescos we always expect to see that its a member of staff singing the crappy songs being played, Ann on customer services belting out a bit of Sugababes then Fred in the bakery taking over with a bit of Michael Buble
