Word coming out of Glasgow tonight is Lennon is at Norwich for talks and Larsson is being lined up as his replacement. Odds are being battered all evening aswell.

If that happens, the ambition of Lawwell & the board need to be criticized. He'd only leave if the boards intention is to continually strip the guts out of the teams he builds

Can't see him going to the championship. Simple as that

That would be an awful move for Lennon can't see it happening

If he really was gonna leave it would be mid to lower prem team, makes no sense otherwise

Yep, bad move. Even if Norwich came straight back up, they'll always be a bottom of the table side. Lennon can and should do better than Norwich. CL experience is a huge plus for a manager like Lennon and should mean a move to no lower than a mid table Premiership side.

When the time is right, I'd absolutely love to see Larsson back at CP.

Can't see it myself and as Dempsey said if it happened it would point to a serious move by the board to cutback on funds available.

I would say though that the quotes from Sammy after the last game worry me a little, he wanted to stay and I think Lennon probably would have liked to keep him but no contract was offered. I hope the board aren't tying his hands in regards to the playing side as there is a decent rebuilding job needed this summer.

I actually think Norwich would be an attractive move for managers as they have a good squad and Hooper will get plenty of goals in the Championship but I don't think Lennon would be tempted just yet, he still has plenty to do at Celtic unless of course he's being asked to work with an unrealistic budget

EDIT : I'm not excited about the idea of Larsson, amazing player but has done nothing as a manager. If we do need to find a new manager I'd prefer we were professional in our search rather than simply picking someone on the back of their playing career

If he goes to the EPL, the threat of relegation is always going to be there as anyone outside the top 7 is at risk. Unless he gets the Newcastle job, all them Norwich-level teams are pretty similar. So I wouldn't agree that they're 'beneath' him. But having said that I'd be very surprised (and kinda disappointed) if he stepped down to the Championship.

In other news, here's Pukki scoring two absolute screamers* for Finland today (and actually looking happy about it!).

    *may not actually be screamers.

Scotsman and daily record reporting that he's gone :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,946 ✭✭✭RoryMac

Wow looks like I was wrong, reports suggest Lennon has resigned.

Lawwell better have a bloody good excuse for this

Lennon has quit Celtic after talks with board about his future.

Board not going to back him financially? Who do you think will come in? Jackie McNamara, Davie Moyes?

This is a bad news for my username

Larsson for me to be honest,Wouldnt mind Mick Mccarthy,Would love Moyes but cant see it happening.Malky McKay seems to be a banker though

Gutted to see Lenny go he always had his heart on his sleeve and has been a big success,I genuinely thought he would stay to have a go at the ten in a row.

    Disaster

Lennon was doing a fine job and if the board weren't allowing him to develop the squad (within reason) then he had little choice

Absolutely and utterly gutted to see Lenny go. Esp if he ends up at Norwich (no disrespect).

    Sad day tbh.

    It is.

It's a very bad sign if Neil Lennon leaves Celtic to go to Norwich City in the Championship - that's not a dig at Norwich. It means that despite the extra money that has come into the club via playing in the CL over the last two seasons, it has made no impact on the financial planning of the club. Celtic need to adapt their financial strategy if they are to continue to qualify and play in the CL and if they are to progress as a club. Lennon leaving like this is an indicator they are not even trying to adapt and progress the club.

I hope not, I love the guy but his record as a manager is poor to say the least.

Unfortunately we probably will go for the cheap option of Larsson or Coyle

Can't see him being interested. If Lennon is off to Norwich I'd like us to try for Malkey McKay.

Malkey would be an outstanding appointment imo

I think we might find this is Lalwells doing here. Unwilling to invest in the squad, happy to get group stage champions league money and win the league again and get complacent. Malkay for the job imo.

What about Jackie Mcnamara? Like his style, loves the club.

They gave it to Lennon when he was younger and less experienced.

It'll be someone like Jackie McNamara. Nothing against Jackie Mc, but I can't see how Celtic could entice a bigger name if the board continue to be inflexible in it's monetary approach. I don't expect Celtic to spend big and I value the sound financial state the club is in, but I think they should be looking to make changes because of the extra CL funding in recent seasons and because some changes need to be made to endure that CL qualification is maintained.

Jackie has been linked with the Blackpool job recently hasn't he?

    Perfect job for Moyes tbh.

Can work on a small budget and has plenty of experience

Would love to get Moyes. Wont get him though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 464 ✭✭rosskind

So have we accepted his resignation? Can we appeal for compensation if he goes to Norwich?

Mackay would be good. Moyes has always had a terrible record against big teams. For the money those two would cost, why not just back Lennon a bit more? Granted manager salaries aren't that big. Jackie Mac would be an excellent cheaper option. Love Larsson but he hasn't shown he can do it as a manager yet. And please for the love of God, not Owen Coyle.

Yeah can see him getting a job in the PL soon tbh.

    Jackie Mc
    Mackay
    Larsson

prob the 3 that will fit the budget ?

Jackie Mc would be a decent enough shout imo as would Mackay.

Larsson coming in would generate serious interest and ticket sales. Would be the riskier of the 3 imo but no better time for him to be managing Celtic. ie, they should be winning the league again next season handy enough.

    Will be interesting

Mackay going to come up if there isn't money to spend?

Roy Keane is a possibility. I say that only because Dermot Desmond might like to get him, not sure Roy Keane would be interested in the job though. A very restricted budget with Peter Lawwel calling the shots.
