For me that was the best episode of Game of Thrones so far. Every story/scene that was visited this week was pure perfection. Nice to see the Spider back also, even if it is to shaft Tyrion at the trial. I even liked Dany's storyline this week!

Oberyn is one cool mo'fo, 3 weeks now until his showdown with The Mountain and it won't come quick enough. I haven't checked out the preview for next week so haven't seen the Mountain Mk III yet. Still think the guy who played him in the first series who chopped off a horses head was a perfect fit. Didn't like series 2 Mountain at all.

Tywin, or more specifically Charles Dance, will be some loss to the show.

The ludicrous attempt at rescuing Theon aside, that was a great episode. The only shame is the forthcoming combat trial will of course rob us of Oberyn who has become a splendid character. Shame that he must leave us all so soon.

By far the biggest loss this season of course will be Tywin. The books missed him hugely when he died but the show will miss him even more. Charles Dance gives the show so much gravitas, so much weight and without him the show fails to have a focus of evil. Cersei never quite cuts it by herself.

Still, a great episode with a great climax. First time I've been really excited this season.

Wasn't sure about the scenes at the Iron Bank and the Dreadfort, but Peter Dinklage's performance was fantastic, totally made the episode.

Really looking forward to the Viper vs Mountain fight and Tywin's exit. May have to rethink watching the next season though if they do start filming unpublished material as I'm a book reader first so it would be good if the show ended on a high note for me!

What do people think, will this be LS avenging the Stark children or will it be about the Lannister children and Tyrion killing Tywin?

Probably the swapping of the children i.e. Mance's son and Gilly's son

He looks too young to be the Hound's older brother. Which is understandable, since the actor was only 24 when the scenes were filmed.

But did they ever introduced Mance's pregnant wife in the show?

Just checked out the preview there, the new Mountain definitely looks more in line with how I picture the book Mountain. Don't know what they were thinking in season 2, no offence to the actor who portrayed him.

Just watched the new trailer. I really, REALLY don't like the new Daario. He might as well have been telling Dany he'd pick up some milk on the way home... Where's the cocky swagger?!

Loved that episode, the Theon scene was great, not so much the rescue, the meereenese scenes great, but the trial just killed it. Jamie growing more and more uncomfortable and suspicious, cersei getting more smug, Tyrian, just Tyrian. Fantastic. Think I will watch it again tomorrow.

He's done stunt double work and dressing up as a giant for the show. Ian White is his name. Think he worked on some Predator films as well.

As far as I know they had to draft in a generic tall guy when Conan Stevens ****ed off.

    No, I don't think so.
I doubt it's going to be kid swapping at any rate. I think they cast Bloodraven this season, didn't they? So it'll be the Children of the Forest.

The battle they'll show this season will probably combine Jon's two battles at the Wall but they won't defeat Mance yet.

I can't see Stannis getting there in a couple of episodes when he hasn't even decided to go there yet.
I think it'll be next season when Mance parlays with Jon and Stannis attacks. They'll probably just introduce some generic woman who'll die shortly after and maybe have Val as well - or maybe even combine them.

The Asha scene was a bit odd but I can forgive it as it was a decent way to flesh out Theon's story a bit and his scenes this season are really good so far. I think it was the way it was edited that was off putting for me. It looked like Ramsay just let them run away which would be completely out of character. A shot of the dog (or dogs??) actually attacking Asha's men giving her an opportunity to escape would have made things a bit more believable I think.

Shae's delivery on the witness stand seemed a bit off but I'm guessing it was deliberate as she was basically told what to say.

Just two small faults though in a great episode overall. I was on the edge of my seat during the whole trial sequence I can only imagine how it must have been for non book readers!

I thought this episode flowed nicely with every scene being very good except the asha rescue attempt, I don't mind the show deviating from the book but that scene was done so poorly.

So..... I'm guessing Tywin is going to start writing some letters to out Jorah to Dany.

I'd guess so. Jorah needs to get out of her service somehow, and it seems set up that Tywin is the man to do it.

    Would look that way.

For me Bronn's betrayal of Tyrion had more of an impact in the books so it was a pity to not see it play out in the show but given the role he has with Jamie now it was never going to happen. I am guessing he will play a part in the rescue along with Jamie and Varys.

The changes to the timeline are my biggest grievance about the episode (which isn't really a complaint). In the book the Ironborn holding Moat Cailin was more important because it stopped Roose getting back to the North, so the scenes from this episode could have come earlier in the series. But I suppose having Ramsey take it for the family is a simple way to explain to the tv audience why he is doing it.

Good episode, there's been better this season but it's elevated by certain brilliant moments. Pycelle's trolling comment in regards to Joffrey was a particular highlight.

Definitely this season, trailer shows cavalry charging north of the Wall.

Another cracker of an episode. Tyrion, Reek and Davos all nailed it.

My girlfriends exact quote during the show was "Danerys would never let her dragon babies kill a person." How I grinned!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 676 ✭✭✭turnikett1

In the books the talk of dragons is just hearsay, rumours and sailors stories, often shot down as just a myth. I don't like how in the show it's so widely calmly and casually accepted and acknowledged in Kings Landing...

Other than that, good episode. Though I kind of wish the shepherd in Meereen presented his child's bones instead of the sheeps, any reason why they would've changed that for the show?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 793 ✭✭✭Kunkka

    That was bloody brilliant.

Probably Stannis's best moment since season 2 & Liam Cunningham is so good as Davos.

The trial was done very well I have to say. Dinklage was phenomenal, his face when he seen Shae and the speech for the last few minutes were simply amazing.

Thought the Theon & Asha stuff was very rushed, I thought after her speech before going to get him it would be dragged out a bit more. Reek was brilliant though like the books, so creepy!

So they're going to out Jorah via a letter from Tywin. That should be good!

It's exactly how it happens in the books; the dragons roamed free for a good while, and she paid off anyone who had property damaged or destroyed. Alot of goats were eaten before the shepherd had his son killed by Drogon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,093 ✭✭✭rawn

It's a shame they cut Eroeh out. The memory of the price of her mercy and then the consequences of her dragons roaming free seemed to important in her holding back and settling into Meereen instead of traveling to Westeros. I'm still not convinced in the books that her dragons did kill a child so I hope they leave it ambiguous in the show too!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,880 ✭✭✭TimeToShine

But in the books didn't plenty of farmers present her with sheep bones looking for compensation? As far as I can remember she didn't see it as too big of a problem, she only panicked when someone brought her the child's bones. I still think they will include it in the series, probably as her last scene of the season.

They made quite a point of showing the shepherd's small child last night. I think it's pretty clear they're setting him up to be burnt to a crisp pretty soon.

I just hope it only shows the shepherd with the bag of bones and not show the burning itself, cos I'm still waiting to see in the books if it was all a trick to have her reign in her dragons or not! Don't want it spoiled for me :P

It would make sense not to show the burning anyway. I can imagine it will be like

    More goats bones....Dany sighs
    More goats...Dany is slighty pissed
    More goats....Danny is pissed
    Danny is furious....child bones presented.....

I hate him - he's completely without the over-confident swagger the last guy had, as you say. It's like he's on quaaludes or something.
I mean, I can understand him not being quite as good as the last guy but it's like they went out of their to find someone as unlike the character as possible.

That is how they were at the start, and for a long time. Now that she's conquered several cities and literally thousands of people have seen her dragons flying around they can no longer deny it. I would have liked if there was a scene where Tywin/the small council were finally convinced it was true - but it would be kind of ridiculous if they were still denying it after several city-states had been conquered by a Dragon-Queen.

Was a great episode though I though Yara/Asha rescue attempt scene was very poorly done. The last 20 minutes was probably the strongest of the season so far though, Dinklage was brilliant.

Looking forward to whats yet to come over the next few episodes.

I don't think we'll see Stannis again now until he rides in and saves the day at the wall which should catch the non readers off guard nicely.

I thought the last guy was terrible... I know Daario's meant to be cocky pr*ck, but this Daario is at least somewhat likeable, I don't think the non-readers would appreciate Dany sleeping with Daario if he was a complete asshole because they seem to have some strange love for her and her absolutely brutal acting.

I cringed when she was talking to Hizdarh and she said "Ohhh send him in! I'd love to meet him!". WHERE ON EARTH DID SEASON 1 DANY GO!?
