No matter what you pay for any of the English players you will always find a better fit abroad that would have cost less. It is always a gamble to buy English which we've seen over the years. English media just bigs them up so much that the average fan cannot distinguish between world class and class. The list is endless, but look at Arsenal for the prime example ... Wilshere/Walcott/OX/Ramsey ... all supposed world class and going to be the next big thing. Barkley is the same thing - who knows what will happen to these kids after a few years. Sure Rooney was supposed to be the white bloody PELE! Sweet jesus. The term world class gets thrown about so easily. Potential is the easiest thing to not fulfill in football.

Give credit to Martinez, he seen it in Barkley but the kid has a long way to go to achieve the next level. Give him 3-4 seasons producing it at the top level then see if he is worth 40 mill.

Lallana is 27 isn't he? Where has he been that nobody scooped him up the last 3 years? Late bloomer maybe ... 25 million definitely not.

Ramsey is Welsh, Wilshere is an exceptional talent, barring injury, Walcott has also got better but injury prone. I would risk 20m on Lallana he has massive potential, we risked 23m on a certain mr Suarez, what is he worth now

Ya but Lallana is a bit too old for us I think. The management seem more interested in getting younger players who have potential. Henry has often mentioned that he likes that model.

Don't get me wrong, Lallana is class but I can't see us going for him

Tbh I reckon this Lallana interest might be a bit of a smokescreen for a different player.

On a side note, bbc have us linked with masch.

I think so too but I recon it will be mostly young players coming into the ranks with perhaps an experienced defender. That's the model the club has now (most under 23/24 I think) and to be fair it works.

Has there been anything on Ivan Rakitic lately?
Similar age to Lallana and I'm guessing the fee would be lower

I can only go by what I see. He looks awesome to me. I think the cross city thing would be the biggest problem he would have.

It's not often I get excited by a young player. Jack Wilshere was the last young player that made a huge impression in me. I just think Barkley has IT.

He will be at United, Chelsea or City by next summer if not sooner. Injuries permitting.

    What's he done since?

He is being linked with Athletico Madrid in the last few days as they will likely get ripped asunder this close season with sales so its a real possibility for him to go there.

I have only seen a few games with him but he has impressed me with his all-round play.

So thats him off to chelsea/spurs so:(

    Sterling > Barkley/Adnan imo

I have been so impressed with every aspect of Sterlings games this year I genuinely believe he will go on to be something very special in the future after Suarez he is the player I would hate to lose

He's off to Real Madrid not Atletico today's tittle-tattle sez, so they would have him plus Khedira, Modric, Isco, Illarramendi, Alonso and in more attacking roles Bale and Di Maria

What is scaring me a tad about this upcoming transfer window is that the mild links with Ashley Williams haven't yet died. I think I'd cry if we signed him , terrible player and will not add anything to our already leaky defense. The amount of times this season I'v seen him fall on his @rse when turning is hilarious.

We all went mad posting panda gifs one night. It was brought into a match thread and went a bit over the top ( I missed this ) and temporarily banned from use.

I guess it was a group bonding thing during the season when people had got over excited at the good run of results.

He's faded a good bit from what he was 2-3 seasons ago alright. Only thing going for him is his physique

I'm think maybe we could do a deal with Southampton for a first refusal on there players if we do offer £25m for Lallana paying the extra few million my be worth to get first choice of some of the Southampton players coming through the ranks.

Clyne, Rodriguez, Ward-Prowse, Cork, Shaw, Gallagher all have bags of potential and it might be worth paying that little bit extra if we decided to return for anymore of there players.

25 million for Adam Lallana is crazy money really. Surely we can do better shopping abroad.

It's a measure of how far we have come in one season that we can contemplate trying to buy one of the best young players in the EPL this season for 20 million. I think we spent about 20 million net total on transfers at the beginning of this season. Now we seem to have 20 million to spunk on one player.

If the manager who brought us from 7th to 2nd and brought the league to the last day wants lallana for 20 mill then im happy with that. He is the man who will bring us forward and if lallana is a part of his plan then so be it. Its easy to say there's "better value" abroad but none of us really have a clue about players compared to him so i will trust his judgement. 20 mill is a lot for a 26 year old with no sell on value you say? Arsed. Im not an accountant and couldnt give a thundering **** about how much we spent if it brings us forward. Weve hoovered up enough young talent recently, now we need first team quality.

Jack Wilshere...more overhyped English rubbish. Injured more often then not, and little more than a liability when he does play. But he had a good game a few years ago.

I think hes worth it personally. On the back of one good and one very good season this year. Seems to have all the attributes to ease into Rodgers set up giving the squad a huge boost in attacking midfield depth. Easy to say that there are other options abroad but not many can say there are better options on current form with the added bonus of Lallana' PL experience. Lallana would blossom in the CL too imo. Hope Liverpool sign him up before the WC starts, turning into a top player at good time in his career.

If we're gonna sign someone for his physique is should be this guy...

ofc the issue is he's dead but still he'll prob be available for as many matches as Kelly.

He's about 16m value really, inc. the 2-3million extra because he's English

I have read that the club are looking to bring in 3 to 5 first team starters. Who do you think will be dropped?

There will prob be one or two shifted this summer but i think overall, rotation between players will be a far bigger feature next season. I think the back line will be the area with the most reinforcement, hopefully something done with johnson.

Johnson Agger Lucas for a start. An improvement at left back also. Going forward the team is fine, defending they are horrendous.

    He's the new Joe Cole.
