That's not your diet that's your perceived calorie intake.

    Same thing as coke.

    Except Coke tastes nice.

    (For me)

This is what every one on that show "Secret Eaters" say. To be honest, how can you say your diet is good, when you aren't sure if you can drink some coca cola?

coz I am not eating fast food, chocolate, crisps, all other rubbish (but heavenly at the same time :D) stuff at the moment,

Just can't seem to quit coke as I like it too much, but will give the coke zero a go for sure.

Tell us what you eat? Just because ur eating 1500-2000 calories a day doesnt mean you are eating correctly? Nobody is here to judge, we just wanna help!

That's great but just tell us what you eat and how you're getting that calorie count. Are you guessing or weighing and measuring
Not to mention the coke thing depends on whether you're usually closer to 1500 or 2000

I can calculate using online calorie counters what I am eating, It's a fairly accurate estimate actually.

Have you been losing weight since you cleaned up your diet?

    right

    myfitnesspal.com

go here, make an account. log every single thing you eat and drink (weigh and measure properly). keep track of your calories that way for a few weeks and you'll get an idea of how much you need to be eating for a sustained and healthy weight loss

exercise isn't there to lose weight it's there to make you feel good about yourself so that you'll be less likely to give in to your baser desires to stuff yourself full of a large tub of tesco pic'n'mix cherry cola bottles.

after a few weeks if your diet is stable at a reasonable number of calories per day and you're not losing the lb's, then yeah..start wondering about calories burned through exercise, but even then you'll shed sweet bugger all lb in the gym unless you're giving it absolute sox for hours a day.

Maybe 2,200 with the can of coke then :)

Have you been losing weight since you cleaned up your diet?

Very little, half a pound in two weeks which is very disheartening and non-motivational to be honest.

Well then you are simply eating too much. Have you read the stickies? Have you calculated what your daily calorie requirement is?

Why won't you just post up what you're eating? It's like getting blood from a stone. There are some really knowledgable people here offering to help you but you're stonewalling them.

Reduce your calories further. Having a few cans of coke is fine if you are losing weight. However, you are not making much (if any) progress so it would be advisable to cut the cans. The calories will have to be cut from somewhere - might as well make it coke instead of sacrificing proper food.

i was losing sfa as well until I actually bought a scales and started measuring what i was eating properly. as usually happens, my idea of reasonable portions was waaaaaay off.

Because I like to eat different things for my dinner everyday and I don't plan a weekly schedule of what I am having for breakfast, lunch, dinner, I mean how boring would that be in fairness and how difficult it would be too.

Just post up your diet ffs, you've lost half a pound after two weeks of exercise so your diet is clearly not as "good" as you think it is.

If it helps you, it's not boring.

It's hardly difficult to list what you'd eat in an average week, either.

You've lost half a pound, so clearly you're eating too many calories to lose weight properly. So if you're not willing to tell people what you eat, stop drinking coke. That's an instant calorie reduction.

Essentially what you're saying can be broken down to - 'I eat. I go to the gym. I'm not losing weight. What do I do?'

All we can say with the lack of information is 'Eat less and go to the gym more.'

well then you're just not going to lose the weight.

planning your food out in advance is just neccesary. you can still eat different things, you just need to have good healthy ingredients available and you need to measure them out so you know how many calories you're taking in.

if you're just tossing food onto plates at random times during the day and calling it a healthy diet you're dooming yourself to failure.

. Just post up the last couple days.

Are you measuring portions or just going yeah that looks fine I'll call that x cals??

Post up what you ate this weekend, every single thing.

You say between 1500 and 2000 calories a day, and now up to 2200 calories a day. A fluctuation of 700 calories is massive when trying to lose weight and suggests to me that you don't really know at all l what precisely you are doing. Put up your diet and let the experts help you (which is not me!). Stop making excuses for why you can't outline one typical days diet!

    Christ no one is asking for your shopping list. For example my breakfasts are one of the following;

30g porridge made with water and a boiled egg or
Two scrambled eggs with dash of skimmed milk with two rashers or
Two boiled egg with a Pat the Baker 'slimbo'

    Dinner might be
Salmon fillet stir fry with soy sauce and 60g brown rice or
Two egg omlette with 2 mushrooms, a bell pepper, 5 mange tout, lettuce, 4 cherry tomatoes, slice of ham and 20g of cheddar cheese.

    Etc

All anyone is looking for is a sample of what you eat to see what you consider 'healthy' eating and portion size.

    Is that really beyond you?

    If so, I give up.

as usually happens, my idea of reasonable portions was waaaaaay off.

QFT. Seriously, judging this stuff by eye is actually much harder than you would think. (Or at least until you get a bit of practice and it's food you're familiar with.)

The calorie readings you get off exercise machines are very, very rough estimates. The calorie measurements on foods are a bit better, but still estimates. The things that you can measure accurately are what exercises you are doing and what food you are eating. There isn't really a magic formula you just have to keep track of what you're doing and adjust as you go along.

Jaysus op, I've never read a thread with a person asking for advice who is as ungrateful and stubborn as you. Loads of people have spent a lot of time posting helpful answers for you and you don't have the decency to simply post up an example of a couple of days of eating for you.

All anyone here is trying to do is help you out but in order for them to do that you are also going to have to help yourself by simply giving us an idea of your diet. If you aren't willing to do that then you don't deserve any more of anyone's time.

    Just going by yesterday,

    Breakfast:

I had 1 slice of buttered white bread toast (don't like brown or other) with a a slice of full fat cheese, and 2 cups of tea with full fat milk (don't like low fat diet stuff) - 200 calories

    Lunch / Snack:

    2 clementines - 80 calories

    1 good size apple - 90 calories

Cup of tea - 30 calories

    Dinner:

Fresh chicken, quarter sized roast potatoes (about 8) medium portion of beans, brocolli, cauliflower, gravy - 800 calories

    1 can of coke - 150 calories

    Evening meal

Toasted sandwich with 2 slices of cheese and ham on buttered with bread - 500 calories

    2 cups of tea - 60 calories

    Approximate intake: 200 + 80 + 90 + 30 + 800 + 150 + 500 + 60 = 1910

My calorie requirements using this webite below is 2,470 based onbeing lightly active (1 to 3 days) and 2,796 based on moderately active (3 to 5 days) which is the category I fall into

Just as i expected. You're diet is FAR from good. I can see why you were so reluctant to post it.

I did not exceed my calorie intake requirement for the day, its less.

Well, this is one of the most frustrating threads I've read in a while.

Brian, I have no where near the knowledged of folk on this thread (I'm a lurker!) but you have to be honest with yourself before you get anywhere on weightloss.
I've lost over two stone in a year by completely redefining my eating habits and excercising more. Eat less, train more ... it works! once you crack that the stickies on here make things easy.

With regards to working hard at the gym, I found using classes helped, you get the motivational push from an instructor that you may not have yourself in repeated cycles of sessions. They also tend to be high calorie burners in less time (class dependant).

So? If i ate 2000 calories of mars bars i'd still be under my calories intake. Does it mean its healthy? No.

Out of interest, what level of activity are you doing 3-5 days a week?

But as other posters have pointed out , calorie intake less than calorie requirement equals weight loss.
