    Hi,

I am trying to lose a stone, or two :) and am just wondering how many calories should I be burning in the gym everyday.

I am eating very well but I would have to have a can of coke about three days in the week as I am totally addicted, and It has to be proper coke, I can't and won't drink diet stuff.

I burned 600 calories the other day but I spent very long time in the gym, like an hour and a half to burn 600.

But I was too tired the following day to do anything and the next day was a real struggle to burn 600 at the gym again.

I was burned out after than and took 3 days off from the gym.

What is a good amount of calories to burn at the gym because 600 is too much for me at the moment.

If I burn 300 to 400 max every evening, is that enough to lose weight?? and if I drink a can of coke say 3 days in the week is that ok if I do the extra work in the gym to burn off the 140 calories in a can on top of the 300 to 400 calories??

Whether you lose weight or not won't be dictated by the fizzy drink alone. What would a typical day's food and drinks be like? If you post up your diet, you'll be able to get some useful feedback.

Also, I wouldn't rely too heavily on the figures you're getting for calories burned.

Losing weight will be all about diet. You need to use more calories than you take in. Theoretically it doesn't matter what you eat once the calories in are less than the calories out but in practice if you don't have a decent diet you will cave and binge eat at some stage. In saying that yes you can lose weight while drinking fizzy drinks. Just seems a waste of a few hundred calories.

I am just eating 3 meals a day and lunch, all healthy and in normal portions, and a good amount of water also.

I used to buy those 24 can crates when supermarkets would have them in, and I'd be rotating cans in and out of the freezer all day long. the 24 would be gone in a weekend

I can't even look at a can now without having a caffeine and sugar induced panic attack.

    good times.

..try switching to coke zero, if you need that coke fix-it's nearer to coke than diet coke taste wise, or ideally:

be mindful of the calorie content of what you are eating-to put in in perspective, your 3 cans is equivalent to an hours work in the gym..is it really worth it for the 5mins you'll take drinking the coke?
Approximately 80% of weight loss comes from diet,20% from exercise-try reading the sticky posts at the top of the forum for more info.

From a gym perspective, try HIIT, or running outdoors, both of those will help kickstart your metabolism.

How are you determining how many calories you are burning?
Post up a daily food intake.

Post up a daily food intake.

only by adding what I have burned on the cardio machines like treadmill, bike etc, but I also try to do maybe 5 to 10 minutes of weights with that if I can.

    Is 300 to 400 enough?

    Thanks,
I can burn 140 calories in 15 to 20 minutes on the treadmill / cross trainer.

Impossible to tell wihtout knowing your diet. Also I wouldn;t put any faith in those numbers they tend to round very much up!

yes I would say they are a small bit out alright but not much, like only about 5 to 10 percent more than what you actually burned, so not much really

Saying you eat healthy food isn't going to help anyone to help you.

Post up what foods you eat each day, and the quantities. Height and weight, too. It'll make it easier for people to help you.

    Based on what?

Sorry I can't do that, it varies. portion size is good.

My diet is good at the moment, I am not worried about that as I have cut out all crap except coke like I said already

its the exercise part that I am finding more difficult at the moment.

The problem with people saying this is just because YOU think the diet is good doesn't mean it actually is. Post it.

And there isn't a hope of you burning that many calories. Those machines are liars. Dirty rotten liars.

If you're not willing to post your height, weight and food intake, i don't see how anyone can say anything to help you

Bt telling people what you eat, they can figure out how many cals you eat. Telling people how many cals you burn won't make a blind bit of difference if you won't tell people what you eat. You could be eating 3,000 and burning 600 for all we know.

And I'd imagine 3 cans of coke would definitely impede weightloss. It's something like 500 extra cals per week, and loads of sugar.

This is what every one on that show "Secret Eaters" say. To be honest, how can you say your diet is good, when you aren't sure if you can drink some coca cola?

I eat about 1,500 to 2,000 calories per day at the moment, my height is 5' 5", current weight 80 KG, BMI is 29.3 which is well overweight, nearing the obese catergory

Sorry to butt in on the thread, but what about apps like mapmyrun or mapmyride? Are they hopelessly inaccurate or a good ball park (for outside runs/ walks/ rides rather than gym work) regarding their calorie counts?

i was using the fizzy drinks back in the day, the only thing that i was getting from it was secondary dibeties, took quite a time to beat it.

They aren't bad but if you want a more accurate counter get a heart rate monitor.

(They aren't perfect either but they'd be better)

Theoretically, the "diet" version of sweet drinks should be all right to drink; Coke Zero in particular is very close to the normal, sugar-laden Coca Cola. I find Pepsi Max to also be pretty good, but that's personal taste.

However, the wolf lies in the fold and I'm surprised nobody here touched on the subject: the problem is that a Coke Zero or any "sugar free" sweetened drink does not add to your calorie count, but there is a chance they'll give you a bigger craving for sugary stuff; A craving that might become very difficult to fend off when you're already in the taste-deprived state of a diet.

This thread is very annoying. A guy looking for help or advice...but wont share the details to his diet! Why ask for help if your not going to listen?

Depends on the person. Personally, drinking coke zero would help prevent me from binging as I don't feel like I am totally depriving myself. Whereas if I tried going off coke completely, I would more then likely cave in which would lead to a negative mindset and a full on binge.

    Each to their own though.

And to the OP: 3 cans of coke a week is not a lot of calories. If it helps you stick to your diet, and once it fits your calorie goal, go for it.

I've never liked normal coke drinks, way too sugary. Coke zero and pepsi max are lovely
You can overdo them easily though, I don't think drinking them all the time would be good either.

Just fill a glass of water full of sugar and drink it.
    Same thing as coke.
