go to audio options on the channel and change HDMI to Optical and see what happens.

Where do I try this on the pi or the aa2? When I go to audio options on the pi, I can choose HDMI or analogue, no other option available.

I tried it at 720p, same result.

Add on works fine in xbmc on nexus 7 for HD and SD channel's. So its something on the pi...

I think we need a new Thread to be discussing the Pi and XBMC. Discussing these in here will lead to confusion. So who's going to start the "Official Rasp Pi and XBMC Thread" thread ?

It's very easy, just enable the plugin, make sure the workgroup is set to WORKGROUP (it's not in Champions image, change it) and share hdd is set to yes. then on your PC open computer and click map network drive, for folder put in \\ipofbox\hdd, make sure connect using different credentials is ticked and select finish. It will ask for a username and pass, use the one for whatever image you are using. The drive on the box will then appear as a mapped drive, you'll be able to drag and drop like any other Windows drive

Thanks for that, I finally got the box to show up on my computer and I was able to transfer the file I wanted from the box onto my pc.
    :D

Good idea. A thread for raspberry pi-to-Alien2 talk would be very interesting especially if it had links to software and step by step set up guides.

Take the plugin folder from my link and copy it exactly and leave everything in it and try again. If you can, delete all of the plugins first before re-adding

I think we could do with a few new threads for the Alien 2 to be honest .
This one is getting very long now ,363 pages as I type ,which is too long really .

The firmware thread is being taken off topic too ,that was meant to be for information only,plugins/images but its now turning into a discussion thread and a place for newbies to ask questions.

A new Alien2 setup thread for beginners would be good and then maybe a thread for experienced users too .
It could even be time for an Alien 2 forum .:pac:

I seen other forums and they use the same thread title but start afresh with a Part Two, with a link to the original thread, e.g.

Amiko Alien 2 Triple Tuner Combobox thread - Part Two

Yeah, we'd need an active mod to sort this mess. The firmware thread should be locked, pm a mod to post in it.

I'm looking for the autovolumeadjustment plugin, if anyone has it or a link, I would appreciate it.
(TheTechGuy ,Zardoz - is there any point in adding it to a H4 image? will it make any difference? )

Also, What are folks opinion on the quality of the picture of H3 vs H4?

Extract this folder zipped into /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/SystemPlugins

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/24v6xu5p0ogkjej/AutomaticVolumeAdjustment.zip
Note it goes into systemplugins NOT extensions

Yes it will make a difference if you configure it correctly ,it should help equalise the audio.

I set the ac3 (Dolby Digital) adjustment as 40 and the max mpeg audio as 60 .
I then go to a channel with mpeg audio ,e.g tv and set the audio level on the remote to 60%.
When you watch a channel with ac3 audio ,it will increase the volume to 100%.Any mpeg audio channel should be 60%.
I think this gives a good balance for most channels albeit the Sky Movie channels are still a bit low .
Some movie channels have an anomaly in that even though an ac3 audio stream is selected the AutoAdjustment plugin doesnt seem to recognise it as AC3 and provide the boost .

Hyperion 4 has the PKT Channel Control plugin incorporated which allows you to set audio levels for each channel individually ,Automatic Volume Adjustment plugin has this too but it works better in PKT.
I uninstalled this though as it briefly causes the Aspect ratio of channels to change when you switch channels ,its annoying.

The audio on the HDMU images is much better than Hyperion or AR-P ,its much louder in general ,dont need to turn up the tv volume as much and the ac3 channels are loud.
I have tried to see why this is the case and looked through the file structure and scripts but I havent found the answer yet,I have been preoccupied with other tasks.

Got a few hours to get Hyperion V4 up and running with all the bits and bobs. Have tested it a bit. As has already been said, its fine.
I do want to compare it s picture quality. I was getting poorer quality on some channels, (eg 4HD, and some sd channel eg ITV1 +1). However other channels seemed fine. Will reflash another image to compare- It could be that I am stareing at the screen too long (between reboots and backups anyway).
recordings are fine, but I didn't have a major issue in V3. The audio volume between channels is more pronounced than on v3, but the autovolumeadjustment plugin seems to be leveling thing reasonably well.
Am using the plihd-mod-marcino skin (as I did on v2 and v3), which works well

So pretty much as others have said (thanks gerry +zardoz for advise/link above)

Also tried starting from scratch with the open arp image, and could not get 2 mux's working. tried same'o s trick, but no joy. It just does not like the AA2+ boxes

They can be got with a socket on the face for another plug to use, so you won't loose and sockets

I find the picture quality on Hyperion to be the best of the images .
It is a bit darker than Ar-P and HDMU so you may have to tweak the tv settings.
I had to up the contrast slightly on my plasma and increase the gamma from 2.2 to 2.4 .
Very nice now ,SD channels look great on it .
There is a video adjustment plugin in the Hyperion blue panel, you can change Brightness,Saturation and Tint .

Only reflashed a V3 image to compare the picture, and while it is very subjective, I think that V4 wasn't quite as good on certain channels. (keeping all settings thesame, i.e 720, 50hz, RBG, and pkt video setting untouched. and settings on tv untouched)
Some HD channel, appeared slightly grainier, and a little more washed out looking. Soarview was about the same. BBC News seemed more light saturated, while itv+1 and E4HD looked like there was fringing around colour contrasts. But this was me looking for issues. Wasn't something to be too worried about. (I used rte hd, bbc news , bbcnews HD, E4HD, tv3 , ITV1+1 as my comparisons.) Once I stepped back , i didn't really notice. Which i did on sd channels on any of the arp images.

I did ftp in the eventname.pyo to get the now/next working on skins other than pli-hd.

Also playback of recordings seems just a little smoother on V4 (fast forwarding, selection, etc)

so all happy . Ready for release to the family.

    Hi All,
Newbie to all this, so any help is appreciated. Looking to get the Hard Drive setup for recording. I currently have championc OpenAR-P image setup on the Amiko Alien 2. The Hard Drive is Seagate 2TB formatted to NTFS. First question i suppose, Is this correct format? Ive read on here EXT3. Any conversion tools?
The Harddrive appears to be mounted. When I attempt to record it tells me its recording, but when i nav to the file, its length in 0.00, nothing recorded.
I suppose my overall goal it multiple recordings, pause and play functionality as well.

Boot to spark, you can format it there

Partition wizard is a useful freebie for HDD formatting.
