On the Hyperion V3 image is there an option for DNS?

I have a no-ip account with one more free ip i can add and it would be nice to use this box.

Only after realising now as i want to set a record for Game of Thrones tonight and it would be handy to do it from work to the box.

No-ip doesn't need to be on the box, it can be on any device on your lan. Does your router support it?

O right!!! Never knew that. Can't say for 100% if the router supports, but it's running ddwrt so i'd say it does. So basically i just enter the alien ip address against the Dns i create into the router?

No, No-ip is only concerned with your public IP, it updates it every time it changes.Everything the Lan side of your router is private, you need to open ports to allow any connections to it from the net. First give your Alien a static IP outside the DHCP pool the router is giving out. To access the box from the net you're going to have to forward the port (I'd change webif to a port other than 80, say 81) on your router to this static IP of the Alien.

Note, for this to work you need to have only one router, a router attached to a modem will not work unless the modem is bridged

If your router does not support no-ip then no-ip have a little progam you can download and it will run periodically and let the no-ip servers know what your routers ip addr is.

With Port Forwarding you tell your router what is the ip addr of Alien 2 and what port num e.g OpenWebIf is running on. You can find that out by going into its plugin menu in PKT. You then tell the router what port number to use to direct external requests from the net to the internal port num OpenWebIf is running on.

With this in place and your Alien2 connected as normal to your router you can access the Alien2 web interface (or OpenWebIf) when you are out of the house from any browser using...

    http://[your no-ip addr]:[external port num]

I do it all the time from work and its dead handy.

one caveat but...make sure you change the default username and password for OpenWebIf, as you will be creating/opening access from WAN.

Its also dead handy for say the VU+ phone app.
I input my no-ip address and can stream from my box over WAN, but again make sure all default passwords etc are changed when giving permissions to connect to devices outside your LAN.

I setup an no-ip account but could never got the box to stream remotely using vu+. Can sit in bed watching tv using an pad no bother using vu+ whilst on my LAN. I opened ports and checked them online, had the no-ip duc running on the pc to update the dynamic IP address and ensured that the amiko had a static IP address on the LAN.

Perhaps someone can put up a copy of their settings including all the ports they forwarded. I saw a comment above that the static ip of the amiko needs to be outside of the dhcp range? Is this true? Mine is a static one of 192.168.0.15 which i reserved on the router.

In practice I haven't been able to get streaming working when away from the house. It's probably because my eircom broadband upload speed isn't fast enough. But I've been able to run OpenWebIf fine and do basic things like look at the epg and set timers.

Image showing what my openwebif is currently set at. Which ports do i need changing?

I have the no-ip set up with a name and its reading my ip addresses, but it wont connect.

So I'm assuming i need to change and port forward a specific port on openwebif?

Read what I posted earlier, you need to forward the port through the firewall on your router or the packets will be dropped by your router when they land at the Wan port

I have, i've port forwarding done from 80 to 999999 and still nowt.

Preferably don't use port 80 on the WebIf - set it up for 8080 or 8181 or something similar. Some modem/routers (like the VF supplied one) will not allow you to port forward port 80. I'm not familiar with your setup but it's probably best to avoid the default http port 80.

What fat tony said ^^, also some providers block port 80

999999 is not a valid port, you can only use from 1 to 65535. Lots of them are reserved but you can use 81 or 8080 etc.

I have it working but did have problems at the start as the VU+ app on my phone (Galaxy S4 mini) would import the epg from my box, but would not play any streams/channels over WAN.

but installing VLC for Android on my phone got me over that hurdle, as the native player on the phone didn't seem to be able to handle it.

I am using Hyperion2 with the i.p address reserved in the DHCP pool on my router, and all relevant ports forwarded on router.

    hope this helps.

the settings in the VU+ app on my phone are:

Receiver Profile Name: *name this anything you want

I.P-Address: *enter LAN i.p address of box

Dyn. DNS Add: *enter your no-ip address here

Port Number: *enter the port number here (80 by default unless you have reconfigured it differently.

User name: *enter username of box (root by default)

Password: *enter password for box here (I recommend you change this on the stb is still set to default)

I have No zap before streaming/Mulit tuner ticked YES

    From a while ago.
But have gotten a new router since, which has solved all streaming/connection issues I had with th eircom router, but the settings are similiar, however, now i don't need the DUC on the laptop, as the router communicates with no-ip. As others have said, use a different port than 80. Also, set your box up with a static ip on your router first

I also have the nexus 4 running art, but have no problem running dreamdroid. It works prefectly on home network, as does VU+

Have noted White Heart Loon and yllw.ldbttr's replies also (thanks). Still having issues. Have a no-ip account to track external ip, set fixed ip for alien box and am using that as host ip. I'm pretty sure my problem is with the router. Its an Eircom Zyxel 660. I like to blame my router for lots of things!
I think I have port forwarding set up to forward on to the AA2. Will mess around a bit more, see if I can figure it out. and post results here.

    settings on dreamdroid profile:

    connection
    xxxxxx.no-ip.biz 80
    https (unchecked)

    enable login (checked)
    user root
    password xxxxxx

(have also tried with https checked and port 443)

    For VU+ app
    ip-address 192.168.X.X
    dyn.dns add xxxxx.no-ip.biz
    port 80
    user root
    password xxxxx

    on the router

    on the NAT tab

    service name user defined
    active checked
service name dreamdroid ( and tried vu+)
    start port 80
    end port 80
server ip address 192.168.x.x (ip of alien 2 box)

have aslo added port 443 with other details as above

in the dynamic dns setup tab

service provider www.dyndns.org (there is no option to change)
    dynamic dns type dynamic dns
    active dynamic dns (checked)
    host name xxxx.no-ip.biz
    username xxxxxxxx
    password xxxxx
    enable wildcard option (unchecked)
enable off line option (only applies to custom DNS) (checked)

(For no-ip, i have installed a client program "DUC" on laptop which updates external ip to no-ip)

will mess around and see what happens. guessing that its my router settings ~(firewall set to "low")

Update- seems to be working now. Changed port away from 80 . All working now. changed port number on openwebif on the box, then forwarded that port number as above. settings above may help others

Have been testing the Hyperion V4. Have to say, that I am surprisingly happy with it. Initially , I was disappointed that there didn't seem to be much of a difference between it and V3, but there are some small improvements. Everything runs just that little bit better. Not much, but just a little bit. And to be honest, it does make a difference. I haven't been able to stall it at all. No gear icons (or dots as it is now), no pixilating, no getting stuck in standby, no failed recordings (yet , haven't done a long running series link type recording yet), responsive while recording. It has handled everything I have thrown at it so far. Would recommend anyone to make the transition if they were thinking at all about it.

Is Hyperion v4 supporting the new VFD yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 598 ✭✭✭Slevster

don't know. I have the AA2+, but not with the new vfd . Haven't seen a fix, but then again haven't been looking for one either

The new router isn't the one you get with Eircom fibre by any chance?

No. got a tp link 1043. use the eircom supplied modem in bridge mode. I had lots of run-ins with the eircom modem.

    Hi All,

I'm looking for a little help, I have a SAB Unix Triple tuner running Enigma2 with a HDMU image.
The problem is when I record I can only record what im watching. It is fine im recording S$y and watching a FTA so this leads me to think its an issue with my Oscam. I have read in places that the oscam.config must be modified to map CA0 and CA1 and it will only decipher one if this is not done.

I think that this is identical to the Amiko Alien 2 that why I posted here.

Any help would be great as Im pulling my hair out at the moment.

    Thanks in advance.
