Was looking at the Garda Reserve on the RTÉ news today, their passing out day, spotted them all as a group with the bible in their hand doing some sort of oath, if this was part of the process in any other job the company would be liable for discrimination.

 Given the most prominent topic in Irish politics over the last 6 months to discuss, but DLB starts with that.

I'm guessing the were swearing an oath to serve the state and uphold the law?

That case that he took against the guards over shaving really makes him look like a gratuitous attention seeker and trouble maker... I also have trouble with the fact that he himself terminated points and was effectively part of the problem before he had a change of heart...

The former Garda Commissioner had some neck to say there were no truth to the allegations.

Everyone and their puppy and kitten knows people who have had offences 'taken care of' by Gardaí.

With the figures for internal complaints in Ireland versus anywhere in the civilised world anyone can see that Irelands internal complaints system just doesn't add up, it's a shame as it brings down the good name of the majority of the Gardaí, the problem seemed to be from the top though where Callinan backed his troops blindly no matter what.

It's strange that they don't allow beards, but moustaches are almost compulsory for senior members.

But it would define someone needing to believe in a God therefore excluding a large amount of people. Your word should be your bond without the need for any piece of paper to put your hand on.

All that was needed was the right pull. Money and fame = a different type of justice

    I would imagine legal reasons

What's to say he wasn't under duress to quash those points?

He should be applauded for exposing what he has.

Legal Minefield. Huge potential to defame the ex commissioner, Minster for Justice, other Gardaí and others.

A good decision to let the lawyers look at it first.
