    is your hard drive usb 3.0?

    Yes ,it is .
    I've tried 2 different hard drives and they both have the same issue.One externally powered ,the other usb powered.
    I've tried with and without a Swap file and they both have the locking up issue.
    Hard drive connected to front usb port and mounted as sda1 ,formatted in ext3.
    The Spark speed test says they can record 2 HD channels simultaneously.
    It doesnt happen every time I record ,it can often not happen for a good while but it seems to becoming more common .
    I do a fair amount of recording, nearly all of which is timed, and in many cases, the box is in Standby.

    I put my box in Standby every night.

    Thanks and have you encountered this issue ,I am using Ar-P now .
    What hard drive are you using if you dont mind me asking ?

    I'm running AutoBouquets, is it possible to manually add the Saorview channels so they appear at a channel number other than 1930 or whatever.
    I'm happy enough with the sky channel numbering Autobouquets gives you put I prefer to navigate by keying in a channel number rather than going into favourites, scrolling and selecting..
    I'm aware running autobouqets could wipe but I could turn this scheduled run off.

    I've played around with autobouquets.csv, but no joy, even managed to get a green screen!
    Is it possible to get ch 1 assigned to saorview rte1 etc..

    Download Dreambox edit to your PC. It will allow you to set the channel lists, bouquets anyway you like.
    And enable/ disable alternative numbering in setup- system - user interface (or customize can't remember which off the top of my head. )

    cheers slevster.
    I have Dreambox Edit and have channels in bouquets/favourites.
    However this doesn't allow you set the channel number or 'position' as it appears in autobouquets.csv.
    For example bbc1 is 101, rte1 is 1930. I'd like to move this assignment somewhere else (without me green-screening again! :-) )
    As mentioned I prefer to key in the ch number when flicking rather than going in and out of favourites/bouquets.

    The very top group is 28.3E UK Bouquets - throw them in there. I did them like this for my Dad so he has the old traditional 1 - 9 of 1.BBC1, 2.BBC2, 3.UTV, 4.C4, 5RTE1, 6.RTE2, 7.TV3 etc....

    Do they not get over written by AutoBouquets?

    if you set up a fav bouquet with say rte 1 in first position, bbc 1 in second position, etc, once you are in the "fav" (or whatever bouquet you want) bouquet, if you press "2" while watching a channel, it will zap to bbc 1 (I think. cann't use the box at the moment. Dont think i did anything to enable this, its the default i think)

    Also, I have used autobouquets at the start to set up a handy channel list, and disabled any updates since. I then rearranged the channels to my liking, moved around the bouquet order, added in the soarview channels in place of the sat one, set up sd only bouquets and created a favourites bouquet. I assume most folk do something similiar with dreamboxedit. I then just do a manual scan and replace any channels that get a frequency change. So far have only had to do that twice since December (ITV HD and some kids channels). I keep teewing the list and backup changes.
    But I find the ability to do this one of the great things about a box like this. I have found my viewing habits very influenced by where a channel is placed in a bouquet, abd so it makes sense to reorder channels accordingly

    Cheers for the replies folks.
    Yeah I guess everyone flicks channels in different ways!

    I'll have a closer look at how autobouquets works and maybe tinker with "POSITION","EPG_ID" in that .csv file. (maybe the supplement.txt can be used to populate)

    As mentioned I prefer to just key in channel numbers, guess i'm too used to sky format!!

    --here's the supplement.txt usage notes --

    I totally agree. Autobouquets and Rats Bouquets are a great way to mimic the channel ordering you may have been used to with a Sky subscription but one of the best things about the Alien 2 is how you can set it up with channels listed in any order that suits YOU. Crossepg gives you a seven day listing for all your channels no matter which way you order them in a favourites bouquet of your own design.

    I don't know why people stick with Sly. Even if you only use the Alien 2 to receive free to air channels there is pretty much enough viewing choice from them.

    From the author of Auto Bouquets - in the README file

    Tips
    if you want 1, 2, 3 button presses for BBC1, BBC2, ITV1.
    first disable hd first option in the menu, then simply
    delete the "28.2E ---- UK Bouquets ---" from your bouquet
    this will remove the official epg numbering and set your
    Entertainment bouquet channels to starting with 1, 2, 3.

    the Plugin does not re-create any bouquets that have been
    previously removed by the user. if for example you remove
    the adult bouquet, it will remain removed the next time
    you run the plugin and so remain child friendly updatable.
    you will need to turn the default bouquets option to "off"
    you can set default option to create first bouquets again.

    changing the order of the bouquets also remains static and
    does not get re-ordered on subsequent runs. this will have
    to be done while not using the HD Bouquet settings option,
    or your offical numbering with not be correct and match up.

    when using custom_swap.txt file for personal channel order,
    enter the two channels you wish to switch with each other.

    101=141
    102=142
    103=178
    104=230
    105=171

    It does epg import for all I think.

    but the channels selector on screen should only showing listings from your favourites bouquets?

    I do have an option set called something like ' dont download epg if channel playing' something along those lines...in work cant check.
    I find it helps.

    sometimes I only get audio for some channels and I was wondering do I need to buy a RPi MPEG license or something?..its been a while so I must look into it again.

    I've got this sort of up and running on my pi, i had to get the licence mentioned in your post to get it going. I've only added a few channels to my favourite bouquet, but when i try to watch them on my pi, only the HD ones have picture and sound, SD channels just come through with sound, saying that i only tried RTE1 and TG4. did you experience this too?

    Have you tried using the licence on multiple pi's?

    You would have had to submit the serial number of the Pi when ordering the license, no?

    Does anyone else notice that the picture in Ar-P is brighter than Hyperion ?
    Hyperion seems to have very low contrast settings as default,similar to HDMU .
    It tends to make the SD channels look better as the lower contrast hides the lower resolution defects.
    HD channels on the other hand seem to lack a bit of punch .

    I've spent a good bit of time tweaking the picture settings on the tv,contrast/brightness/gamma etc but I cant seem to get Ar-P to match Hyperion which I prefer as football and golf is easier to watch on it,it doesnt look too bright.
    Anyone else notice the difference in picture quality or am I losing my marbles ?

    Just a random reminder that discussing card-sharing is not allowed on this forum. Only discussion of these receivers in their capacity as free to air receivers is allowed.

    Am trying ChampionC's image again. this time with the updated terrestrial xml. Not have any luck tuning in mux 1 and 2 on saorview.
    Have tried, complete scan, auto scan and manual scan. Have tried ftp'ing saved channel list , with soarview details via dreambox edit, no joy. May try building from scratch out of curiosity (i have the AA2+ box).
    Have looked at some sd channels on the image after comments above. They do appear grainier to me than hyperion V3.

    Yeah i did that, i wasn't sure if the code the sent is tied to the particular pi. I've got two at home, i thought maybe i could just apply the code to both pi's.

    Can you stream non HD channels fine?

    illdoit2morrow and Agueroooo

    What you guys are doing with a pi sounds really interesting. Would you mind explaining a bit what exactly you are trying to make it do? How you set up your pi and how it is connected? Do you have it hard-wired to your router or by Wifi and how do you connect it to your TV? Where did you get the pi? What software are you using on it and where did you get the software? Above all does this work?

    Thanks,

    Flex

    I've a pi running openelec 3.2.4 and XBMC. Within XBMC there are PVR addons. One such addon is called VU+ / Enigma2 Client. This addon allows you to connect to your AA2 STB.

    I only got it going at the weekend and i'm still figuring it out. I've done what was recommended earlier in this thread which is add a few channels to a favourites bouquet and set the addon to only look at that particular bouquet. I did have to buy a codec to get it going and i cant seem to stream SD channels but apart from that its pretty cool.

    I've using homeplugs to connect the the box and the pi, i imagine this is better than a wireless setup.

    Just a quick pre-April 1st post...

    I installed the Android app "DreamDroid" there recently and was able to connect to my Alien 2.
    I noticed the "send message" feature, where you can type anything and it appears on the TV screen... that has good April fools day potential.

    Eg. my in-laws to be, have a Dreambox and they're not very technical... was thinking of posting a message on their screen "Illegal card sharing detected at <address>, Sky enforcement team". :)

    Or you might post "No TV licence detected at this residence, TV will shutdown in 1 minute"... then you can remotely shutdown the TV/set top box.

    Or in the middle of a football match, post random/misleading football match scores of that match/other matches.

    Anyways, have fun.

    I think this might be down to what is in the 'Tv-Bouquet parameter, it is case sensitive. I used my favourite bouquet but i didn't work initially as i didn't have a SPACE between the word favourite and the "(TV)" text.

    This wiki might be able to help too.
