I turn my receiver off every night .
The only issues I have are with recordings .I tried 2 different hard drives and they both gave the same issues so its unlikely a hard drive issue but I cant rule it out.

I believe the Samsung M3 drives work well with the receivers ,I recently bought a 1.5Tb M3 drive so might try that out as a test.

For general tv viewing the receiver never lets me down ,its as reliable as my Dm800 which runs the legendary Dream Elite Phoenix image .

What are the recording issues you are having?

Box can lock up sometimes when recording ,especially when recording one channel and watching another .
Spinner comes on and I need to restart the box.

I've tried 2 different hard drives and they both have the same issue.
I think its a memory issue, could even be a swap file issue .
I'm using a swap file on the HDD ,perhaps a swap file on a USB flash drive may be better ?

I'm not a fan of external hard drives for recording in general,I've seen it with other E2 receivers ,its never as reliable as an internal drive.

If the open arp image can record then, you think the pkt image is at fault for you. I have tested recording 2 HD channels while timeshifting another hd channel . while the box did slow, all were watchable. am using a seagate expansion 1tb external hdd (think i managed 3 hd recordings while watching another available channel, but will have to look back at my posts to see what I did)

Yeah thats why I am using Ar-P ,to see if the recordings are better,I'll know then if its an image issue. Not using it long enough to know yet ,I'll ask the missus in a week ,she will have given it a good burn in by then.:)

The speed tests in Spark say my drives can handle recording 2 HD channels.
I found that the box was put to the limit when trying to record 2 HD channels satellite and watch a third on Saorview ,the picture started to break up ,and the memory usage was through the roof.

Is your drive externally powered or via usb ?

the plugin Works on my "+" box. and I got the plugin from ChampionC (thanks btw)

However I use the rear usb port and have the usb plugged in during boot.(mind you I only did it once or twice)

But championc has walked many people through his procedure with success.

Plugging into the the rear USB slot and rebooting did the trick, E2 all backed up now, thanks!

Lads, should recording in Standby work OK?
When I select Menu -) Standby/Restart -) Standby the box appears to go into a Deep Standby, my external HDDs LED goes off and recordings stop.
    Is this normal?

Also I use the Deep Standby plug in and set it to switch to deep standby at 2am every night but when I check the box in the morning the box is still running.

    I'm running TTGs image.

I just leave the box on, standby only stops the box sending to the display, uses nearly the same power. I just turn off the TV at night

When I load up an E2 image (Champs or TTG) I notice the channel info and plugin are as they were before loading.
I guess this is normal and it doesn't wipe all data in E2, can anyone advise what folders are 'not touched'.
I was trying to start afresh after having been messing about with various plugins/settings and am not able get back to day 0 on E2... Anyone know how I can start with a 100% blank slate.

    Thanks.
    ps using AA2+

In Spark you'll find the IP of your box under System-->Net setting-->ipconfig
In E2 cant remember off-hand but its there somewhere..

Is there not a 'backup image' and a 'flash image'? I could be wrong, will try again later.
I have been trying to re-apply TTG or Champs image and it does appear to load, (i.e. I see the e299 progress thingy) however channel list/plugins remain same.
    i dunno

No, flashing enigma copies the full structure of enigma from the backup overwriting all directories

I connected my sab box up to mobile broadband today via a vonets wifi bridge and the channels are gettin pixilated and freezing, the modem is saying it has full strength 3g signal, anyone any experience with this? It's happening on the $channels, thanks, nigel

You probably have a high ping time on your mobile broadband, if so nothing you can do other than get "proper" broadband.

Not mighty, try first thing early in the morning when congestion would less and see what it's like.

Ok thanks, I was hoping it was gonna be something simple like the dish shifting a bit offline, so the high ping time would give me a bit of pixilating and freezing? Or is it the wifi bridge that could be causing it?

It'll be your poor broadband connection. Mobile internet isn't really up to the job.

Mixture of both I'd say, high pings with your BB, can't really speak for tge wifi Bridge, but with alot of stuff hardwiring is always best. Even though yours is "wired" it's still a wifi signal that its working off.

****e I think I should have thought this thru a bit so :-( wonder if O2 will rip up me contract I just signed, anyone use wimax? Is that any use? Sorry for the newbie questions

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,837 ✭✭✭same ol sh1te

There's a few reasons why mobile internet isn't suitable, it's called midband because it isn't quite broadband

1, the latency, the extra delay will cause freezes
2, inconsistency, the speeds quoted on mobile is the speed everyone shares, can be good one minute and dire the next. Fixed broadband controls speeds, with mobile the only way they can control things is by download limits.
3, unlike fixed broadband it's not always on, but dial on demand, this means connection could drop at any time

Mate of mine used wimax for a while, said it was woeful in the evenings with congestion, don't know anymore than that about them. Have a look at irelandoffline.org, it will tell you what BB providers are available in your area.

Thanks lads, pretty much depressed after hearing all this, hope to god I can get out of this 12 month O2 broadband contract and go back to "proper internet " , feel like having a good cry!

Box locked up when recording Match of the Day tonight ,had to restart it and it locked up again 20 minutes into recording it again .Was watching it while taping it.

Recorded The Voice fine earlier today.

Thats the same box locking up issues with Ar-P as with Hyperion ,quite frustrating .
I'm wondering if its a hard drive issue as opposed to the receiver but I cant keep buying and trying different hard drives.
Anyone else having this issue ?

Are you having any issues on FTA channels ? With $ channels, the pictures are still coming from your dish so the info coming on your broadband is a small string of info every 10 secs so the effect of a slow broadband would really only be picture FREEZE and not any pixelation issues

I do a fair amount of recording, nearly all of which is timed, and in many cases, the box is in Standby.

I put my box in Standby every night.

So I never use Deep Standby. As far as I know, Deep Standby is as good as fully off. However, you should just be able to press the Red power button on the top of the remote as and when you like. I use HDMI-CEC to Standby the box when I power off the TV and this works day after day.
