Enigma 2 take 2 in that case!!! I'm guessing somewhere among these posts someone has explained how you store the E2 EPG externally?

You'd be best format your Usb drive in ext3 format and then set it in CrossEPG (make sure it's not set to internal flash). There have been plenty of posts detailing how to format to ext3 if you do a search.

Firstly I hope this is the right place to ask this,I didn't know whether I should start a new thread or jump in to this, anyway: I've just purchased the Amiko Alien 2+ triple box a couple of weeks ago and I've set up a couple of hard drives through a powered hub to the rear USB. My reason for this is so that I could copy over files from a flash drive through the front USB to the hard drives at the back using the F1 button(file manager) on the remote. My problem is that although it looks like it copies the file from the flash drive and the paste option is available when I jump over to the chosen hard drive, when I actually select paste it doesn't do anything, no file is copied. Has anyone found this problem. Oh yea, I use one of the hard drives to record to and that is working fine so I guess it's not that the drive isn't writeable, also I'm running Spark OS.
Any ideas or has anyone copied/cut and pasted between drives on this box.
    Thanks.

Have you formatted both drives using the Alien 2 box into the ext format?
Alot of drives will come per-formatted in Ntfs or fat32 which is what computers mostly use unless you are running a linux based computer..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8 GerFar

Thanks Steveon, the drives are ones I've been using for media storage and are formatted to NTFS(done on a windows PC). The box does offer the options of formatting to EXT3, Fat32 or NTFS but I was hoping that I wouldn't have to re-format because of the amount of stuff I have on the drives. One reason I thought that the format wasn't the problem is that when I record a channel it is able to write to one of the drives, so I thought that it would be able to write when I paste a file too. Anyway thanks, if I have to temporarily remove the files from the drives and re-format to NTFS with the box then so be it. Is there a mount a drive option in Spark does anyone know or does it just automatically mount?

I've been using a 500GB external hard drive with my Amiko 2 since I bought it, but I don't record programs so it seems like a bit of a waste.

Is it possible to use a 32GB USB key for auto bouquets and plugins etc? rather than having to use a hard drive? I attempted to mount my flash drive which I formatted to ext2 using my laptop - it claims it mounts but it doesn't, when I plug my standard 500GB hard drive in it works straight away

    any ideas?

    thanks

Could be wrong but does it not have to be ext3?

To the Question above , yes a 32GB is more than enough , Ive used a 4GB without any issues.

    Now ,

I have tried TTG's image and its pretty good although Im having an issue with the setup on Auto Bouquets, Cool Guide

When I use AB I pick my region as London HD and choose Free To Air option as from previous experience this gives the best list of stations.

First time round it wanted to do a full Sat scan which I let it do , then when I went back into Cool Guide and entertainment it still had a mix of PPV and FTA stations.

When using Champions image before if I choose FTA only for the NIT scan it would only show me the FTA stations when I bring up Cool Guide .

Am I doing something wrong here as the only way for me to access FTA stations in Cool Guide is to choose Bouquets then go down to Free to Air , but this wont show me any of the Saorview stations and the list is full of crap unlike the previous image I have used .

I find that autobouquets gives a poor breakdown of the fta channels -it is basically the sky channel breakdown with only fta channels in the bouquets (though is has improved in recent versions)
I create a Favourites bouquet and put the stations I want in it, this goes for the saorview channels as well, they will need to be added manually.

you can edit the bouquets by pressing "ok" and "menu" on the box or using dreamboxedit

So must have been since I flashed the new images..[/Q

Have you tried the pkblue panel- settings -front panel. (for hyperion V3)?

I have the same box as yourself, but the front panel shows channels etc

Lots of posts about the box not working with some USB keys. Seems as if (but I could be completely wrong on this), but if you keep the usb key at 4gb or less , the box may be more likely to accept it from what I've experinced and gleaned from others. I dont think you would need much capacity for only the epg. 4gb would be plenty and allow a descent amount of timeshift too.

Is there any way of switching Bouquets when I have the EPG open?

At the moment, if I was in entertainment, and I wanted to see the EPG for Sports, I would have to change the channel to a sports channel and then press EPG.

The posts about the box not working with Usb are that people failed to upgrade Enigma 2 while the box is booting and needed to use a plugin in spark to flash. All usb's work otherwise. All should work fine otherwise

The drawback of using a Usb key is that they have limited writes, as little as 1000, and the CrossEPG plugin re-writes the EPG to it daily so you wouldn;t be long burning it out

Use CoolTVGuide, you can map a button to bouquet list to bring up the list and change bouquet

The newest AA2 Plus Boxes have a new VFD display , all images just show boot when in E2 at the moment

Another way is if you select 28.2 bouquet to view all channels when you go into epg all will be available

On my image, I set the Blue Button as BouquetList. However, by default, it's set to the Long Press of the Yellow Button

On the default Spark EPG , for a lot of the channels I get 'no info' and only when I click on that particular channel on the EPG does it seem to download or display what's on now, anyone else experience this or know how to resolve this?

I had that problem too and there is a solution which was well documented on the lavatronics forum which involves installing a Spark rescue image. This is not the same thing as installing normal Spark firmware that you can download from the Spark Online Update tool. A rescue image deletes any channel lists or settings you have on the Spark side of your box. Spark Rescue Image 1.2.68 is available from this thread on Sparkfans.net. You will have to register to download it.

    Flash-Instructions:
    - Copy the folder called [spark] to a Fat32 formated USB key. It should contain only two files: "mImage" "userfsub.img"
    - Insert Key in rear USB-port , turn on the Box
    - Press and hold the button [OK] during boot , until [FORC] appears on the display
    - Press on the [^] to make [SPAR] appear
    - Press [>] to make [FACT] appear, then confirm with [OK]
    - The Box will now start flashing the new image, and [U LD] should blink
    - Finally the box will reboot with the rescue image.

You might or might not run into trouble with it recognising your USB key.

Once you install it you can then, if you want, upgrade to the latest Spark firmware.

Another reason for getting 'no info' like that in the Spark epg is because a channel frequency has changed and so needs to be re-scanned.

I use the fast forward/rewind buttons, this skips quickly through the bouquets in the cool tv guide. I'm using Hyperion V3

had a play around with v4. quite similiar to v3, no major changes, but didnt get a whole lot of time. set up was fine. however i did green screen it (lost the pk bluepanel after loading some plugins, so if i pressed the blue button, i got a green screen. unsure which one, as i added a few at the same time. I suspect "autotimer"). Did find that my hdd was unmounted at reboot, but didn't have time to look into it.
Back to stable V3, till I get more time to fiddle around with it.
interested to see what other folks that have used it think

I've been trying it out for the last few days ,and it doesnt seem like much of an improvement over v3.
I was very happy with Hyperion 3 but the same little niggles I had been hoping to be fixed are present in 4.

The low AC3 audio, the missing now and next info (which can manually be fixed),the large memory usage when recording which sometimes causes the hard drive to lock up.

A few things I noticed are that the timeshift button is mapped to timeshift on V4 and it also has the channel control plugin preinstalled which I uninstalled,as it messes up the Aspect Ratio .
Seems to be more free memory too which may help recording.

    Hi guys,

I have TTGs image set up the way I want it after a fair few modifications (changed DNS, changed remote control settings, added the saorview channels, upgraded TS media, removed web player, changed Cross EPG to save to external HD etc etc).
Is there anyway I can make a backup of the image and its current settings so if I have to re-flash it I don't have to make the same modifications again.
I think someone mentioned doing a backup in Spark, will that created an E2 image?

I downloaded some kids TV programs, they are HD .avi files and they play fine on my laptop using VLC player.
However in TTGs Hv3 image I can get sound but no picture (black screen)
Is there a VLC plugin for E2 by any chance?

Looking to start streaming channels and possibly recordings from my AA2 to a raspberry pi. Has anyone here got this setup and would be able to give me some pointers? I had a google for it but it didn't bring up much of any relevance.

Not sure about the .avi file problem but to backup your image you just need to go into the same plugin in spark that you used to flash the image in the first place but instead of pressing red you will press green to do a backup. This will make a copy of your entire image. If you upgrade to v4 at any stage you will have to make all the changes again.

It's pretty easy to do with XBMC, just use VU+/Enigma2 client to connect to the Alien 2 backend

When trying Hyp4 all was ok until I tried to install Samba. This removed the blue panel and caused several green screens.
I also noticed a very slight pause (stutter) in the video every few seconds almost like a buffering issue. Very slight but once you've seen it you kinda keep noticing itrolleyes.png
Still had issue with some things not seeing the HDD such as the swap file plugin.
The only improvement I've seen so far is less memory use.

For now I've reverted to TTGs hyp3 until 4 matures a bit.
