Yes they are going to care about missing out on CL.
They are not going to be picking out a team 7th as potential CL winners down the road, just because they won it in 2008 with a different squad.

Yes money is important, but on balance United will need to outspend their rivals for top players.

Mata, good as he is, was surplus to requirements at Chelsea and more importantly nobody else came in for him.
At the time he signed grabbing 4th place was still a possibility, with RVP and Rooney coming back from injury etc.

Such a pity they made such a mess of last summers window, as well as Moyes ridiculous team selections

I think we'll finish fifth, not a big difference but with the aging team and change to management and coaches as well as the improvements to other teams it's not far off what was expected.

I think you underestimate the fact that potential signings will be told what the plan and vision for the club is as well as seeing what talent is there already and what talent is being bought.

Knowing United are building a team for the future who can not only win the league but challenge for the champions league will influence decisions.

Not to mention at least doubling a lot of their wages and guaranteed first team places.

Looks like Baron Capital bought nearly 25% of all the United shares available on the NYSE. Not the start of a takeover bid according to Andy Green.

    http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11667/9207412/premier-league-us-firm-baron-capital-buys-manchester-united-shares

they only own 2.4 per cent of United, which no voting rights. They would need to buy all the remaining shares on offer, then get the Glazers to sell them another 19.1% to even trigger a take-over offer.

Really is a nothing story imo - just an investment firm thinking they can make a quick buck on the United shares. Wouldn't be surprised to see the United/Nike deal announced soon and then to see Baron Capitol dilute their holding almost immediately, based on the spike in shares price we will likely see once the record Nike deal is official.

I'm looking forward to the game on Sunday, feeling good about it this time. Really hoping we will play similar to last weekend, go on the attack

That's the thing, cue Val & Clev starting in a 442 and Liverpool bossing the game..

What would the pro Moyes peoples opinions be if United went back to the horrible 442 again this weekend?

Ribery is on over £200k a week afaik.

Despite all his talk and rocking the boat,Kroos has only missed 2 games this season so his value to the team is apparent. It won't be just a matter of here's some cash, welcome to Manchester.

I'd love to see him at United plus the reports of us lodging a bid for Carvahlo are good signs that we have learned from last Summer's fiasco.
Moyes has said that he wants transfers done early,we could be in for a busy time once the season is over.

Imagine next season with a midfield of Carvahlo & Kroos,no more of this 'forward five yards, back ten yards, sideways then long diagonals" that have plagued our game.

Kroos is a key player for them, no doubt, but while its due to his quality, its not like the team depend on him.

From a Bayern point of view, Kroos leaving would be bad, but by no means a disaster. With Lewandowski coming in the summer, they will want to work in the Goetze/Lewa connection as much as possible, which would see Mario drop a bit deeper, playing alongside either Thiago or Schweinsteiger and Javi Martinez or Rode. Its frightening the depth they have.

So for Kroos to be apparently demanding being put up with Robben, Ribery, Schweinsteiger and Lahm, Bayern want him to show a lot more both on and off the pitch as a core member of the side. They could well feel like Kroos is asking for too much and let him walk.

If he does something like that, particularly with the front six, he should be sacked immediately.

He's had a couple of moments where he's had glimmers of picking the right team and getting on track only to make it seem like it was just an accident with subsequent selections. If he still hasn't seen that the way they played last time out is the way he needs to be moving then he's jumped the shark.

I feel like saying something 'wrong' and getting a ban. Anyone else ever get them urges?

Wait 'til Sunday,it'll be easier then.

I've never dreaded knowing a team line up so much before coming up to Sunday. He just has to play Fellaini and Carrick in the centre with Mata, Rooney, Januzaj/Kagawa behind RVP. None of this 442 **** with Val, Cleverley and Young, I'll be sick.

It's the other few that are the problem.

My prediction is that Liverpool will do as they've done all season.Play like men possessed for 20 minutes,if they don't score then United will win.Problem is that our defence has a penchant for giving away comedy goals.

It's on!! Hamman on twitter saying that he believes Kroos will be in the EPL next season.(crosses fingers)

at home we have come flying out of the traps but not so much away, but you are right, the longer we dont at least get a few shots on target then the easier it will be for Utd.

but I predict there will be plenty of goals in this one and probably one that will be talked about for years.

both teams have great attackers but pretty rank at the back.

throw in the atmosphere and hopefully both teams have to go for it at some stage then it could be great entertainment.

may the best team win and may the ref stay quiet.

I'd be worried if we played Vida and Ferdinand, which would mean we have an ultra deep defence again because of their aging legs/lack of pace. When we play Smalling/Jones/Evans there instead we can push up higher as they have the speed to retreat in a hurry. As a result we can press higher and put more pressure on teams... which is good, clearly.

more got to do with the ref not ruining the game with a stupid red, or controversial decision, and both teams can then go for it.

basically for once I wouldn't mind the ref being a spectator for once.

some refs like to get involved in these marquee games even if they are not required.

I've a feeling there's zero chance Moyes will play the 'team that wins games' in both the liverpool and olympiacos games.

I'd love us to make Jones & Smalling fixtures at CB for the rest of the season. They are the future and will only live up to their potential if they are trusted to play regularly in their best positions.

Young, Valencia, Cleverley, Giggs, Vidic, Rio, should all be phased out immediately as they will either not be playing for us next season, or are simply not good enough. I would include Evra in that, except Buttner really isn't a credible alternative.

The only prediction ill make is Sturridge will score do a mad looking celebration and not smile.....

I don't think I could bring myself to watch the game if I see Valencia, Cleverley, Young or Welbeck on the team sheet this weekend

Pool will embarrass us if we line up negativity

I'd agree with this. As much as I've defended him and even his selection against Olympiakos, going back to it with Fellaini back fit and the big 3 available would be the last straw.

    Question:

do you think Moyes will hold anything back for the Olympiakos game?
