The tide forecast for tomorrow morning is a little higher than this evening and unless the flow from the river upstream eases by a good bit then the water around Morrisons Island will probably come up a few inches higher than it did this evening. High tide tomorrow morning will be at about 05:55.

Still snow lying in Castlebar, very little seen by the edge of the road until 1st roundabout on the Breaffy side, then still a coating around the place after that! Glad for driving that it wasn't for the cross-country bit!

It's ok, I saw the Me forecast tonight on Rte. There will be no storms this week :)

Very benign day here in Galway. It was actually quite nice. Very little wind if any and not much rain. It is cold though. I was down at the local farmers market earlier and it was half empty because many of the stall holders expected bad weather. Did we miss this latest event or is it happening later?

Just looking at tonight's ECMWF ensemble mean charts post 192 hrs. The pattern they show bear an almost scary resemblance to those which they showed about a week before the start of the very unsettled spell back in mid-December. The charts are so far out as to be not taken seriously at this stage but there seems to be a little consistency over the last few runs for another large-scale trough to develop over the north Atlantic which could help to trigger off another period of unsettled weather as we run into the last 3rd of the month. This particular trough does not look as potent as the current one as this model is placing it more north which would help to shift primary storm tracks more north (or on a more 'normal' track) than recently.

All theoretical at this stage but given the consistently high performance of this model's mean runs this winter, something to maybe keep an eye on. Of course, could all change again tomorrow :pac:

Tonight's 216 hr EC en chart:

Should start to get some reports of stronger winds soon as the centre moves away from Ireland in next few hours after the country spent most of the afternoon/evening experiencing calm in middle of storm

Yeah, just went out to move our bin after it was blown over and it is BITTER outside (Cork harbour). Winds pretty breezy now, whistling through the tired remains of my fence.

Very windy here in London tonight, easily the worst day we've had all winter. Not west coast of Ireland standards but an impressive enough storm with a real roar from the wind and a surprisingly strong sustained wind

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,881 ✭✭✭pauldry

Today there was everything in Sligo

    Rain sleet snow some wind

This 600mm 10 storm winter has

1 more storm and 94mm of rain left in it!

Wind has picked up in Clare in the last 20 minutes or so - can hear it howling down the chimney:(

  • Registered Users Posts: 95 ✭✭Aimsir

strong gusts in cork city south

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,252 ✭✭✭deisedevil

Extremely strong gusts here in Dungarvan. Strange constant high pitched howling and thundering gusts. It's after blowing some things belong to the neighbours up the road. Are we looking at more of the same or just a mild dose of it?

UKMO seems to be showing another deepening depression crossing Ireland from the southwest between 120 and 144.

Probably won't come to anything, but if it pops up on the other models then maybe something to keep an eye on.

6Z GFS at +120. Small feature to the NE of Scotland. Another small system E of Newfoundland (1010 mb) predicted to reach Ireland as a trough at +150.

12Z UKMO has that low again at 120. Doesn't look much here but still worth keeping an eye on.

First sign that GFS is beginning to pick up on a possible feature next Thursday, this time developing overland UK.

One to watch in next few days.

So is this cold plunge into the north east of America going to have more storms heading our way?

  • Registered Users Posts: 239 ✭✭Steopo

Way in the future so unlikely to pan out like this that but impressive storm set-up, bigger than most of Europe!

It's actually quite stormy tonight in Cork.
Wind's quite significant and it's extremely wet.

This system seems to really just keep on coming!

    Yes, wasn't expecting this.

Well, this system looks familar! The 6z GFS has just picked up that developed for late Thursday that there was some suggestion of by UKM a few days ago.

Very much an outlier, but certainly one to watch.

Just shows how difficult the system is to pick these up. Big change from +78 to +72hrs.

Is that on a more northerly track than previous storms?
