Along with Hard Luck woman, River of Love and several other posters on here who are very nonchalant and in some cases downright arrogant and rude about what happens to the people who actually live there.

Just as long as you can see Gareth though, that's the main thing!;)

    Exactly, thats the main thing.

How about a UB40 reunion gig in Tolka Park to keep the Jackeens happy?

    Exactly, thats the main thing.

Well then, I genuinely feel sorry for anyone who feels like that.
Anyone who would think like that must rank highly in the favour of their fellow man.
Their personality and empathy for other people would assure them of that.

When i get to see Garth, it'll because Aitken Promotions will have gone through the courts and gotten permission to put on the concert. What anyone else has on the matter is just white noise.

GET YER GARTH BROOKS HATS, SCARVES AND HEADBANDS. HATS, SCARVES AND HEADBANDS.

That alone in would drive you mental, nevermind the actual gig.

    RHEEEY MISTERIOOOOO MASKS!

If something is above board and legit, i fail to see how it is me-feinism?? You'd think Garth Brooks was knocking down their houses and forcing them to move to a flotilla in the North Sea.

I'm going to relay my experience of queuing overnight for tickets.

I know this is just a small group though.
That's it. Not everybody will be out to cause havoc.
    Can I ask something please?

How did people get on queueing?

I queued the night before last in Galway. It was a good night and the crowd were lovely. All looking out for each other. One lovely lady passed around tins of roses. Another lady went down the queue in the morning with a bin bag asking for rubbish and collecting it. There was no sh1tting and p1ssing in the streets either. There were public toilets up the road in Eyre Square and we went about minding each others places in the queue. They were a lovely bunch of people and there was no fighting or anything.

Will you ever cop on and stop tarring us all with the same brush.

Its a few who ruin things. It doesnt mean we're all like that.

    Come on now...
You've posted, agreed with and thanked the posts on this thread that have said the residents who endure terrible things during these events are moaners and have no legitimate reason for complaint.
You have shown zero empathy for what has happened to these people's homes, cars, daily life etc

All you care about is seeing an ageing and somewhat bloated has-been warble out some very dated(and even when it was new) pretty poor CM songs.

Of course, that's vastly more important than having to deal with, pis5, puke, feaces and property damage.

    Right?

I have no need to cop on thanks;)
You agreed that the main thing was that you got to see Garth Brooks and divil be damned what happened to anyone elses home or property.
I think that sums it up.

One of the "residents" posted on here that they were totally against it, but give me some tickets to tout and i'll head away for the week with the profits and i won't have any objection.

The stories are totally exaggerated, and have changed throughout the course of the thread. First it was "they said they'd only have 3 concerts" and the promoters were going against the "agreement". When it was pointed out that there was no mythical agreement it changed to something else. 5 days is not a long time.

I've been to a few concerts and matches at Croker, and i have never seen anyone shit on the street.

The economy will make tens of millions off this, jobs will be created, but because a few people might be inconvenienced, i'm a me-feiner

I can assure you all of what I posted regarding my experiences of "little presents" left by concert/match goers is 100% true.
Just because you haven't seen doesn't mean it doesn't happen!

I mentioned people being me feiners in the context of not giving a damn about others who are not just inconvenienced, being inconvenienced in my book is being delayed in traffic, looking for an item in a shop that they have just run out of. Its NOT being "inconvenienced" in having to clean other people's vomit and excrement from their front step, which I have had to do on more than one occasion never mind the urine into MY HOME via the letter box.

    That's what gets my goat.
"I want what I want and I want my concert and so what if you have to put up with cleaning horrendous stuff from your home. I dont care a jot about that"
It's nothing to do with the concerts, Aiken etc etc
    Its peoples attitudes to others.
That is indeed, me feinerism in all its glory.

Emmm...this is awkward...I'm a culchie! & I have done nothing but empathise with residents... generalisations aren't a good idea especially when your a Dub :-P

This 'culchie V Dub' thing bemuses me. The entire nations population would fit into most cities suburbs. Dublin is a medium sized town and we bicker as if every one outside Dublin has never seen a double decker bus and every Dub isnt one family member removed from a culchie to start with. Jaysas lads. Get over your selves.

Well that really says alot about you.

Are you the same poster who was so excited about the Garth Brooks concert, really hoped that you would get a ticket & then when you got your ticket gave out about where you were seated???

Calm down! I was just making the point about generalisations... we are all "pals" here ;-)

    Yep :D

I can't understand this kind of mentality tbh

At this stage, it's turned into an imposition on the whole city. For 5 or 6 nights a certain demographic is going to take over a whole stretch of town from Drumcondra right down to Temple Bar and make it difficult to get a seat in restaurants, be comfortable in a pub or even just walk down the street. Already every hotel in the city is booked for the dates so no foreign tourists will be able to visit-this at the very peak of the season- and people wishing attend other concerts and events either won't be able or else have to stay about 20 miles away. How many people will be flying via Dublin airport that week? Probably 100,000+. That's 100,000 times an extra hour travelling time in case they get caught in traffic.
2 gigs was more than enough, 3-ok as a special once-off, but now they're just taking the piss.

God, how did Galway get on at all, at all for the Galway volvo ocean race in 2009 and 2012. A week of festivities each.

"Whingers"? I'd rather teabag a mincer than go to Garth Brooks 5 nights in a row.

800.000 visitors attended the Galway Ocean race in 2012 over the course of a week.
    In an entire CITY.

400.000 people will be descending over the course of these concerts IN A VERY SMALL RESIDENTIAL area.

    There's a big difference, wouldn't you say?

I have it on very good authority that its going to be lashing rain and freezing cold that week.

I hadn't realised that Ticketmaster blocked anyone from overseas from having tickets. Will my UK, French, German and Australian friends, and Irish people coming home from Oz who have all bought tickets for the concert be stopped on the way in?? I'd imagine anyone travelling to Dublin on holidays during "peak season" would have booked already. Also, are foreign euros worth more than Irish ones?

And all the poor pubs and restaurants full to capacity and making money hand over fist, what will the owners do?? 'Tis terrible, terrible i tell ya.

It's nothing at all to do with logistics; it's the fact that the GAA and the promoters are as good as taking over the city for a week at the expense of everything else. How can someone travel up for any other gig and have a night out or even take a train from Dublin for a few days down the country? Want to have your wedding here that week? Fúck you.

    Well, I never!
And the Germans are seen as a sensible nation? :p

My point dear is that you come across as completely ungrateful and lack any sort of empathy. Who cares as long as YOU have a good time right?!

My own family & friends are going to the concert, hell I might even jump on the bandwagon for a bit of craic, but at least they can look past their own agendas & see where the residents are coming from! We get the point, you love Gareth Brooks but surely can you not understand the implications of a 5 day event on a small area has on its residents? Even acknowledge what disruption this will bring to the area or is it just "I'll have my fun & that's all that matters" with you??

People really do have the its okay as long as it's not in my back garden attitude!
