I wish somebody could explain the Un De Sceaux hype to me. He's won two piss-poor races this year, at odds of 1/12 and 1/16, and people are talking about him as a Champion Hurdle horse?? Ridiculous.

Very impressed with the manner of hurricane fly's win today, still think he will be the one to beat this year, encouraging run by OC who was in receipt of 2lbs today that he won't be come march, this year will come too soon for him though I feel

I can see the top two from Leopardstown fighting out the finish at Cheltenham again.

Jezki isn't good enough. His jumping isn't up to it at this level.

My Tent Or Yours looks more of a flat track type to me. He's classy but lacks the resolution to win it.

The New One has an engine but again I would have concerns about his hurdling. He's the type of horse who could be handy the whole way and try to grind it out from two out like Hardy Eustace used to do. I'm not sure he jumps slickly enough to do that.

I don't think Un De Sceaux will go to Cheltenham and if Annie Power does go I think it will be for the Stayers.

I have it between Our Conor and Hurricane Fly. Dessie Hughes will probably have left a little bit to work on and the experience of a proper Grade 1 will bring him on further. Hurricane Fly will have a 2 lbs pull with him at Cheltenham so he will have to step forward again. Like others on here, you would have to have reservations about the rider given his lack of experience at the highest level. Hurricane Fly has been a few lbs shy of his brilliant best at Cheltenham in the past and he's probably slightly on the downgrade now. I still think he has less question marks over him than the other contenders though. Our Conor will be a serious hurdler if he stays sound but this might come a year too soon for him.

I assume you watched the races? He is a tool and looks to have a Ferrari engine. He is visually a champion hurdle horse, his times are very good bearing in mind he has run them with no company, not being asked for maximum effort and being eased down.

He beat Rory O Moore as you would expect on ratings in his reappearance, if ROM ran to his mark, UDS ran 162 eased down without being asked to quicken in a time of 3m55. If the second last time ran to his mark(possibly unlikely) he ran 172 being eased 3 from home and in 4m10.

He is a wonderful horse imo.

If Annie Power goes for the race, she will go off close to favoritism imo. I can see her and OC shortening in the build up with the front two drifting. The market is still hitting over 100% for the front 7, even discounting rags. 9/2 the field at best prices the morning of the race, i'm calling it now!

Cant believe people writing off Jezki's chances. Listen scratch that race yesterday it was a complete shambles, it was basically a 4f sprint race in which suited HF and OC much more (2 horses bred for the flat). A true run race which you always get in the Champion and you will see Jezki at his best.

Premierstone, if you have reliable information that McCoy will ride Jezki than I see no reason why evens either or wouldn't be fair.

I'd be prepared to have anything up to two hundred whacks that he will be riding My Tent Or Yours in March should both animals turn up.

I think thats probably a fair price considering

If that bet is still on the table premier I'll give some even money as well.

Even money was perfectly fair before yesterday, I wouldnt be so keen to part with my cash now though, glad I wasn't on here over the weekend :D

Someone mentioneD there that Noel Hayes head of tote Ireland and former owner of Our Conor had said AP was favouring Jezki, I had heard that also and I believe Kevin Blake has mentioned the same, neither of these were my source, but as I said above yesterday may well have changed all that!

Neither horse will finish in the first three so I wouldnt loose to much sleep over it if I was AP!

Post makes little sense to me, It was Jeskis connections who sent Captain Cee Bee out to set that pace

How can you have a pacemaker in a 4 runner race:confused: If he sets off to ensure a real good gallop he will just be ignored which he was to a point in the race before yesterday, at least in the Champion you will have a big field where there will be a proper gallop by all from pillar to post.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 373 ✭✭anuprising

how did a 149 rated hurdler get that near hurricane fly ? did captain cee bee improve that much ? answer is no

all the 2 mile maidens run were faster than the champion hurdle , even the mares maiden was only one second behind hf

quickpick vic on the same track and same ground ran 4 seconds faster than hurricane fly in the first race yesterday

the boylesports was same distance and 6 secs faster than hurricane fly

how can handicappers and maidens get from A to B quicker than a 2 time champion hurdler under the same conditions ?

Jezki got this in last years Supreme and couldn't pick up past Champagne Fever or My Tent Or Yours. Jezki doesn't have the tactical speed to win a champion hurdle.

He'll be outpaced again and get himself in trouble rounding the bend. Some people will continue to make excuses for him and blame jockey error (Power and McCoy have both been blamed in some quarters for giving him bad rides) but as far as I'm concerned he's just there to make the market for others :D

He's also now 0/2 at the course.

    Where are you getting this.

Unless he gets injured, he will be going the Cheltenham.

    Just reading between the lines.

"We'll go anywhere with him if we find the right race but I don't want to take on the Grade 1 horses yet." WP Mullins, 22 Dec 2013

"If things went well there he'll probably go for the Champion Hurdle but he would need to improve a stone to get near Hurricane Fly. I don't think we really learned anymore about him today." WP Mullins, 12 Jan 2014

If he does go to Cheltenham I think he is as likely to take his chance in the County Hurdle under top weight than he is to run in the Champion.

I am not saying he will win it, but some people coming out with he doesnt even deserve to be in the line up is just an outrageous thing to say. I already have said Annie Power will win this if she shows up, with TNO and OC filling in the places.

really fancied hf for a long time
not quite so confident now and worried about
our conor who could have them all at it jumping the last
can't for the life of me see how he's twice the
    price of the new one
A little bit more improvement and our conor will definitely
    be in the first two
    hf or conor for me

As for annie power....I don't know to be honest

Shur don't you know that every race than Hurricane Fly runs in (ie wins) is a shambles, all 19 Grades ones pure muck and the two weakest Champion Hurdles ever :D Lets hope for one more shambles on the 11th of March!

Will you be laying Hurricane Fly in teh place market?? Brave man if so, and of course by brave I mean stupid ;)

hf not in the first three or first two without annie
    I can't see how myself

how good a race this will be if they all line up

No disrespect to HF but I just think this year will be one too much for him, he's 10 years old and father time waits for neither man nor beast. A true champion but I just feel his best days are behind him.

I don't know how you can be so sure that shed win the champion. I don't think her jumping would be good enough

She jumped like a stag Saturday except for the last where Ruby took all the blame for that.

id say annies jumping would be better the quicker the pace can only see her her in it if its soft. good ground id see her going stayers.also wouldnt be sure un de sceaux runs you get the impression they want to wait a year.if annie and un run with the fly our conor my tent and the new one what a race.would love to see the fly do it but still very hard to call.ive limited it to an irish winner at the moment

well it seems that way ,will be interested to see what timeform make of it as when I looked again , quickpick vic carried two pounds more than hurricane fly over the same course and distance on the same ground same day .

does this make quickpick vic an exceptional 7yo maiden horse ? or is it a below par win for hurricane fly ?

County Hurdle...:D He will run in the Champion Hurdle.

The owners have backed him to do so.

As of two weeks ago Eamonn Leigh was very much of the opinion that McCoy wouldn't be on Jezki in March. It seems the odd racing journalist and writer knew something he didn't.

In any case, Jezki is totally held on every bit of form possible with three of the market principles. Unsurprisingly, there will be something better than him in the Champion Hurdle.
