Wierd. If I put the box into standby before going to bed and then power it back on the next day, it takes an age to respond.

I plug my receiver out every night and only plug it in the following day.
Enigma 2 receivers are really not designed to be left on all the time ,I find they run much better with a fresh reboot daily ,it only takes 2 minutes to reboot.

I have the same issue as above, my only worry is that I've a portable hard drive connected to the device, so the constant power cycles might cause it to corrupt eventually. Else I'll solve the problem by putting it on a timed socket set for a reboot every day.

I just checked the CacheFlush plugin I had 1% free I manually cleared it and it went back to 2.5% so I rebooted the box its at 12% now. Does anyone have any idea what might be using up all the memory or is this normal on all the boxes?

Is there any auto reboot plugins?

If you are using Championc's latest image go into hardrive settings and enable the swapfile. I got ~18% extra this way.

Just rebooted into Spark and reloaded Enigma onto it

place a copy of the uimage and the e2jff2.img into a folder called "enigma 2" and place on the root of a fat 32 formatted usb key (the boxes seem to have trouble with some usb keys. best chance of success if you use a flash drive under 4 gb)
power off the box with the switch at the back
hold in the "ok" button on the front panel of the box while you switch the power back on. keep the ok button held for a few secs until the display flashes. then release the ok button.
then press the "ch-" button. "enigm" will be displayed
power off at the back switch again.
when powered off, plug the usb flash drive into the rear port.
hold in the ok button and power on. continue to hold in the ok button for a few seconds until the display flashes "forc". release the ok button
press the "v+" button. the display should display "U LD" this means that the box is flashing the image. it should take a few minutes to load. if the display shows a "T TO" something has not worked, perhaps, folder named incorrectly or flash drive nut recognised.

Sorry if some of the details are off, doing it from memory. I know that there is a better description (and link) back through this thread. not sure if this is of any use to you (suspect that you may be familiar with this method already, but may be of use to some folks starting out)

Wierd. If I put the box into standby before going to bed and then power it back on the next day, it takes an age to respond. When it finally does, it boots up, a channel description is displayed on the front of the stb but nothing on the TV. I've to switch the stb off and on to get things back to normal.

If I put it in standby for a short amount of time and power back on its fine, just overnight it causes problems.

I'm not putting it into standby at all now to avoid the problem, would the power usage between having it on and in standby be anything to worry about?

No need to switch off the stb - When the channel description appears just hit power button again to put it into standby, wait a few secs and hit it again. Will come on as normal then.

    Hi all,

I'm a bit of a lurker here. I've a 4 LNB FreeSat setup which NEVER gets used as it (obviously) doesn't have the Irish channels so we ended up keeping UPC which REALLY annoys me.

My New Years Resolution is to see if I can wean us off our dependence on UPC.

Here's my home setup and requirement:-

    Setup:

    - I have 100mb fibre broadband from UPC at home paid for by work which I will be keeping after I ditch my personal subscription to their TV service.
    - I have an excellent Asus RT-N66U router which pumps out great WiFi throughout the house.
    - I don't have any ethernet cabling in the house and homeplugs don't work due to some ultra sensitive electrical fuse system installed a few years ago. Believe me I tried everything and ended up selling 2 x sets of home plugs on Adverts.ie
    - I have three TV's in the house I want to serve. Two TV's downstairs (let's call them my football/movie TV and the Family TV :D) and a TV in the main bedroom.
    - I have a 2 TB NAS stuffed with movies and TV series
    - I have 2 X WiFi connected OUYA media boxes attached to the downstairs TV's running XBMC which stream online content and content from the NAS as well as Netflix.
    - I have a Wifi connected WD Live box for the bedroom TV which is used for streaming NAS content and Netflix. That's about all it can do, it can't stream from the internet.
    - I am about to sign up to www.privateinternetaccess.com VPN service

    What do I want?

    - One box with the Irish and UK FreeSat (or equivalent) channels for each TV which is easy to operate, has a 7 day EPG, series link type recording and can either record content to a local HDD or over the WiFi network to the NAS but obviously if it does this it would also have to be able to play content from the NAS also.

It seems to me that the Amiko Alien 2 might be the box to do this but the last 280 pages make me think that should I install 3 of these in the house and ditch UPC I'll have my money back in 6 months but I'll be permanently flashing an image here and sorting out a bug there and may end up pining for the good old days of UPC when TV just worked albeit expensively!!

I also read a few pages back that the Gigablue HD 800 QUAD HDTV PVR Linux Receiver and/or U+ ULTIMO Triple Linux HDTV Receiver might be better options for what I'm looking to achieve but a lot more expensive.

My thoughts are that I'll buy one box to replace the current FreeSat box I have (which is never used) and see if I can get it working in a stable manner to do the things I want it to do before buying and deploying two more boxes for the big UPC switch off.

Am I in the right thread to get support for this little project of mine or am I barking up the wrong tree all together? I'm a 5 out of 10 tech wise in so far as I flash the odd Android ROM and have set up the OUYA's with XBMC etc etc

Should I be going for the Amiiko Alian 2, the Gigablue HD 800 or the U+ ULTIMO Triple Linux HDTV Receiver?

Thanks in advance and not too much abuse please if I've strayed off topic or into the wrong thread for this.

    Ben

I ditched UPC a couple of years ago. I bought a satellite dish/terrestrial digital aerial along with two MVision HD200 boxes. Recently I replaced one of the boxes with the Amiko Alien 2+.

I get great reception on all channels both satellite and terrestrial!

I would suggest you consider building (or having someone build for you) your own HTPC - separate section on Boards for help with that - locate it at the main TV and stream from it to the other TVs.
Run Openelec on the HTPC, use the NAS for saving recordings (or save them locally if you use a big HDD) and the recordings, LiveTV and saved media will be available to all devices in the house running XBMC .... Ouya, Laptop etc.

Yes it will take a good bit of effort, but you will get things the way you want them ..... and time is on your side at present so there is no HUGE rush.

It is not a cheap option ..... buying suitable tuner cards can be costly and it does involve getting 'hands on'.

    ...... just another option ...... ;)

Sounds cool Johnboy, cool and terrifying at the same time!!

I remember looking at this mini pc a little while back (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lenovo-IdeaCentre-Ultra-Factor-Desktop/dp/B00DPJZQBG/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top) thinking it could make a very nice media box / HTPC but thats as far as I got :(

To build something which delivers what I want without ongoing drama (I don't mind a bit of maintenance, loading new versions of software etc) I'd need skills which I simply don't have.

Are there businesses which sell pre built / customised HTPC's around the Dublin area that you know of or can recommend?

Does anyone know of a unit capable of receiving Saorview that also has dual-tuner satellite?

We're thinking of ditching our current Sky+ box and subscription, and are after one that would make use of the two cables coming from our LNB, seeing as they're there anyway. We're also keen obviously to be able to record one satellite channel while watching another.

We could keep our current white (old) Sky+ box and simply add Saorview, but we're looking to work off a single box, and also customise our channel list so we don't have to trawl through all the channels we no longer subscribe to.

Ideally, we'd have the hard drive included, but we can buy one separately if needs be. I was looking at the Amiko Alien 2 Triple Plus, but am I right in saying that its terrestrial tuner works with UK DTT only? (We're in Carlow, no hope of getting it here really!)

Budget-wise, looking at around €200. But we're open to spending more. Grateful for any help :)

The Alien 2 works with Saorview, just no Mheg5 teletext

Ok, here it is, a link to my Jan 2014 Hyperion V3 Image - for the Amiko Alien2 and other ST7162 Based Boxes.

This image is working with the following plugins:-
1channel (new version) , AutoTimer, AutoVolumeAdjustment, AutoBouquets 20131020 (works in about 60 secs), CacheFlush, CrossEPG, CoolTVGuide v7.0, IPTV Updater v1.1, all Picons, Rats Picons, OSCam (blank - no line ), TSMedia v4.9 beta2, PermanentTimeShift, OpenWebIf and Streaming / Recording of $ Channels while watching another $ channel and SambaServer.

Also includes SkyHD bootlogo and skin

The image is setup to use DHCP automatically and is also set for using HDMI at 720p

FTP and Telnet - Username "root", Password "pkteam"
OSCam - http://box_ip:8888 - Username "root", Password "oscam"
OpenWebIf - http://box_ip:00080 - change it in Plugins > OpenWebIf

    Download

    Enjoy!

Cheers, tried this tonight and it seems like a really solid image.

Only issue I have is that it green screens every time I scan for saorview.

Has anyone else had this issue or know how to resolve it? Thanks.

Try a manual scan of both your frequencies, that should be working.

No, there are none I can recommend as I have never used such a service.

I have seen some discussion about such services on Boards ..... try the HTPC forum and PC Building & Upgrading forum (this is *mostly* used by gamers but not exclusively).

If you ask there I believe you will get some suitable responses.

Rte player doesn't seem to be working, it worked fine on the last image but loads now and let's me select the show but does not play anything. Is this a local issue?

This may be of use to those using hyperion v3.
Its a keymap with a shortcut to the timer list on the F3 key.
ftp it into usr/local/shar/enigma2 and replace the keymap.xml
(take a backup of your own first just in case)
I posted this on another forum also. I got some pointers over there, so thanks to those. was a seemingly simple thing to do, but ......

Perhaps someone can some can help me.
I am looking for a dyn dns plugin (think there was one in Championcs arp image) for the box.
I want it so that it will update no-ip with ip address. It appears that the settings I tried on my eircom router isn't working(posted a few pages back). was hoping a plugin like the dyndns one would work. (have a client installed on laptop, but its usually off during the day, and so no-ip isn't updated)
Can someone point me in the right direction?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 426 ✭✭FlexMcMurphy

There are some instructions in message 7 of 9 in a thread on this eircom forum. They explain that you can put the details for your static dns in the eircom router and it will update your ip address with no-ip.org if it changes.

It may still show dyndns on the eircom routers web-interface but it will actually use the no-ip.org service.

In reality I found that my ip address from eircom doesn't change very often. It might be enough to just run the client on your laptop once every evening and after any time you reboot the router.

They are the settings I used Flex. Doesn't seem to update the ip on no-ip host. I have the client installed on my laptop, which works fine, but when I am out and about, it means the laptop is of, the client doesn't update and VU+ or dreamdroid cann't connect. I saw the dyndns plugin on one of the images and was wondering if this would substitute the need for the laptop client.
Perhaps getting a decent router would solve more than one problem for me.

Update. This is an update to confirm my stupidity. Went back through the settings on the router. to log in to the noip website, i use the email address i used to sign up with as username, and its password. I also used this in the eircom router settings. However noip assign a username for the host, which is different. I found this under account settings. Put this into the router and presto, all works. Should have followed my own instructions from a few pages back(sorry eircom router. again)

I have a Billion BiPAC-7800N Router which has a drop down where you can choose from a lot of different dynamic dns services of which no-ip is one.

I don't know how that dyndns plugin works. I'm still surprised that you can't go for a day without your ip address changing mine doesn't change that often.

I posted some instructions explaining how to install and set up Samba Server on the Alien 2. One thing I discovered since then was the Samba Server with the User Interface that apparently needs Python 2.7 will work anyway on an enigma2 that has Python 2.6.. in other works PKT Hyperion 2 and 3. I didn't try it on AR-P.

It's really essential I think, you can get into your Alien2 just like it was another folder on your PC.. change plugins, stream recordings.

If anyone wants to use the CoolTV Guide 'Sky HD' skin but can't use the Sky HD Skin itself (due it lag ect...) then swap out your cooltvguide folder in extensions for this one https://www.dropbox.com/sh/t16qdh4f2c47od3/j7Y86idflK

I've just modified it so that it doesn't rely on the xml or icons from the Sky HD skin. Cool 3D needs to be set to 'MyDesign' and guide on Cool Nice Guide. Screenshot attached (I have CoolPico Item Height set to 33,Event 30 font set to 25 and Timeline Font set to 24)

No. I think everything is back in there. Started with a hdmu keymap supplied by a member on another forum. Tried inserting the lines of code into the orginal keymap, but couldn't get the shortcut working, so I then started with the hdmu keymap and added any pkt functions, and re assigned key functions so as to be the same as pkt,s. seems to be working ok, but havent tested every scenario.

This website has installation files for Samba.

I used 'samba_3.6.9_sh4' which contains the fileserver binaries and 'SambaServer_131212' which is the Python script to create the Plugin Menu entry. Both are provided as an archive of the directory structure (.tgz) and as an 'ipk' for installation.

As explained here, once installed the 'SambaServer' folder is in 'SystemPlugins'. Then to add the UI I used 7-Zip to unzip 'SambaServer_131212' until I had just the directory structure. Then drag the usr folder into root (/) in FileZilla and all the files and directories will get put into the correct place.

    Using the Samba UI:
To delete a character from a text field you are typing into press the 'PAGE-' on the remote control to delete characters to the left and 'PAGE+' keys to delete characters to the right.
To delete all the text at once... arrow up to get out of the text field then arrow back down into it so that it is all highlighted then press '1' on the remote.

Could somebody pease give me a quick guide for dummies for recording from the box and playing content back. Not getting anywhere with it. My dad picked up this box before Christmas and every visit home I have to try and do something else for him. Wish I'd found something simpler for him! I'll have a quick look through this thread now to see if there's anything I can use. Thanks.
