Technically, I can see four. There's an island a mile of the coast that is geologically part of Greenland.

Sure the zombies would freeze up there on Barbeau Peak? :D

It's quite disturbing how turned on I am by this thread.

    lads no its a trap.

She says it now and then when the apocalypse happens you'll all flock to her aid but it will all be a trap and we'll have all our items taken from us and forced to do all the crappy work like dig wells or fight off the invasions with crappy weapons as she rules over us all with an iron fist. We'll be chained together with no hope of escape and forced to sleep outside in a crappy hut on the floor and given hardly any food or rest to keep us weak.

Sorry if posted already but think I'd set up in a nice little Teahouse.

    This one would be ideal.

Zombies have a shelf life though. Without the ability to repair their bodies I can't see them lasting more than 5 years, probably a lot less.

One thing we tend to forget about zombies is the weight loss, weight loss will lead to clothes becoming baggy and eventually every zombies pants would fall down further restricting its movement. The human race cannot let itself be wiped out by something that has it's pants around it's ankles.

If someone dies during a zombie apocalypse, tie their shoelaces together

As a mortician, I always tie the shoelaces together of the dead. Cause if there is ever a zombie apocalypse, it will be hilarious.

I wonder why though that a zombie "outbreak" seems to be the most feared? Or at least the most talked about?
I talked to a guy once who was studying to become a doctor or something and he said that the closest virus that could even be compared to a "zombie" like symptom would be at best Rabies.
    Any takes on this?

its my nightmare :( especially the fast ones theres just no escaping them.

but if its the slow ones it would be ideal :D take over a house in the country and stay there far away from the city and towns full of zombies. plenty of farm animals and wildlife to eat. wait it out the zombies have to rot away eventually. but if its the fast ones i just know i wouldnt make it :(

as for the rabies its a small possibility, id wonder tho could we get a new form of encephalitis or mad cow disease or something like it.

You think power would last that long?

and generators need fuel so you need to head out to refill it or get more fuel. You also then run into issues with noise, a generator is noisy and will attract both the undead and those that wish to take advantage of what they see as the end.

I dunno which group is scarier but you are gonna have to deal with both.

You need to multiple requirments, things like line of sight, defences, abilities to be self sufficient, escape plans. and if during all this you by some miracle get GTA V running and ignore the more immediate dangers you will be seen as a liability rather than a friend.

    You do not want that.

EDIT: even if you were super quiet Tescos and other supermarkets and gonna be looted at the start. they will be rammed if they are closed and cleaned out. There isn't gonna be anything there

the only people able to loot will be the ones that were smart enough to wait a few days. surely anyone rushing into looting would get eaten.

    Central mental hospital in Dundrum.

Pros: Secure, huge walls, lots of supplies, generator, well, garden for veg, lots of medical stuff, library, therapy stuff for relaxing to the sound of gnashing outside, cctv, lots of space to park helicopter, big but not uncontrollably so.

Cons: Made to keep people in, not zombies out. And you'd need to clear the place first. Also: no weapon store (I imagine).

Out of the cities- way to dangerous.

A fortified building really close to the sea or river, I think the river is polluted in walking dead so the sea is probs your best option for food source.

Some bikes as someone said earlier, definitely a good idea

Tesco's is a no no, remember the film when a group of trapped inside a shopping centre, it was great for a while, but then they eventually got in- Dawn of the dead, grab supplies and run as far away as possible.

A boat as well, remember 28 days later, they got into the "secure" building.

I was thinking about this in work today, its pretty sad !!

Zombies just wander around & can do so in herds so you could be out in a rural area thinking your safe/sound & before you know it your being attacked & munched on. I dont buy into this get out of the cities stuff, the motorways would be crazy..everyone heading in the one direction. It would take forever and you would have people turning into zombies on the motorway..would be chaos. Id stay in the city & make my escape when things have calmed down

I wonder how the Government would deal with it?

Air Force One. Fly around until the apocalypse blows over.

Any time you need to refuel, land at an abandoned airport and load up. You'd need to have your own elite guard of marines to watch your back while your crew were refuelling.

Kinda like that movie, World War Z.
Haven't seen that movie, sounds interesting..i must watch

Go read the book, it’s so much better and a great read for anyone who likes this thread. Rather than following the one character it’s a guy interviewing people from all over the world who were involved in Zombie outbreak, how it spread, how they survived and how they fought back.

In it a lot of the survivors in Europe barricaded themselves in castles or other ancient fortified positions.

To be honest, you could do both. Apart from the name and the fact that they both involve zombies, there is very little overlap between the two.

On an island. Zombies can't swim. (I think.)

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

    Bunratty castle and folk park
High walls around the park will slow down any incoming attacks
Sentries in the battlements 24/7 to keep an eye out, there would be time to take the livestock indoors in case of imminent attack otherwise it would be largely self sufficient there are cattle, sheep, chickens & pigs in situ, lots of farmland for crops, water for fishing
    Sorted :D

They'd probably try to get the Zombies onto a job bridge scheme to rebuild the economy.

    maybe a Tesco.

And you will be joined there by every other starving tom dick. Some of them with guns.

    Silly idea.

    Mountains. Only reasonably defensible location.

Were in Ireland, theres is guns here obviously but not a lot so i wouldnt be too worried about that. The mountains wouldnt exactly be full of supplies & i wouldnt fancy traveling up & down the montain to get supplies either

Nah,zombie tax. You'd have to fill in a form stating how many are surrounding your property then pay a tax on them.

I think tech zombies are more likely (think 'The Borg' from Star Trek). It's only a matter of time before humans start having computer implants. Hmmm, actually...we already have implants that give artificial hearing.

Instead of a biological virus that causes zombies, it could be a computer virus. The main difference is that those under the affect of the computer virus could possibly be controlled by their creator. Think of it....a small number of hackers/geeks, each with their own army of intelligent zombified humans!

I think that would drastically change how/where to defend from the zombies. It may not even be possible!
