    Instead of a biological virus that causes zombies, it could be a computer virus. The main difference is that those under the affect of the computer virus could possibly be controlled by their creator. Think of it....a small number of hackers/geeks, each with their own army of intelligent zombified humans!
    It would be extremely difficult to highjack a human brain. Our brains are excellent at ignoring inputs that don't act as expected. It adapts so well you won't even notice the change.
