Not sure under what forum to address this question so thought I would ask it here as I know there are some knowledgeable people here with regards to all areas of tech!

My plan is to get a good av receiver and 5.1 speaker separates for my living room along with a 50inch tv (i have been saving for a while now). Im wondering in relation to network access which is very important - is it more important that the receiver is network capable or the tv, or both for that matter??

The AV reciever will more than likely have better Network Function than a smart TV but I havent used the new smart tvs last time i used one it was alright but i prefer a more dedicated kit for that stuff

as far as the finer details maybe the HTPC forum?

At ~160km, the theoretical minimum ping you could have is just over 1ms, with no routing delays.

Theoretical minimum ping would be 160km/3E+05km/s . Which is JUST over half a ms

The Enniskillen server is known to be broken, it throws out 0ms pings all the time. Really it sould be 20+ no matter what you do.

Ping is the round-trip time, so double that.

Most of the time I was getting single-digit ping (or damn close to it) from Maynooth. Usually was around 12ms or so, I think.

200/10Mb connection going in next week. Upgrading from 4/4. :P

My 290x block and back plate arrive Tuesday and my case bits from Slovenia (screws, pci brackets, cable tidy mounts etc - bloody expensive at 100 euro :( ) are due Monday so will be able get my rig back up and running pretty quick after back from Germany :). Cant wait to be gaming again.
Just wish I didn't have exams on the 11th onwards :(
Also wondering who on here plays on dayz/bf4 and would be up for a few games of either after my exams? I have my own Teamspeak server that has a few regulars, it can be accessed by using the address gimmegaming.ie in the teamspeak client.

480mm rad and 2 * 360mm rads (all 60mm thick). They cool cpu, memory, mobo and gpu though.

    Nutcase. :P

Here's me thinking 2x240 (80mm) rads was nuts for CPU+GPU.

Someone just put a QNIX 1440p on adverts. I've been looking to get one for a while, should I take the leap for 220€?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,089 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

Cant go wrong with the monitor, just make sure about back light bleeding and dead pixels etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 626 ✭✭✭Seaaan

    I hate waiting

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,710 ✭✭✭Monotype

€220 is very good value. I wonder if customs are paid yet. S/He could be selling it without accounting for the bill in the post in a week or two!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,327 ✭✭✭deceit

I've put in an offer of asking on it as i'm sure I will find a use for it on a backup pc for that price :D.
Whats the backlight bleed I should be looking out for and how should I test?

Black screen in a dark room should show you want the bleed is like. I was half thinking of putting in an offer myself, but since you've already offered the asking, I won't step in.
