800 series from nVidia are due around Spring. As early as February, possibly, but expected March/April.

well, then it is a perfect timing, though I am not going to go high end this time around. I will aim at gtx 870. Then again I will wait and see what will AMD offer with third party 290x ( is that the new beefy one with **** cooler? I hate new renaming system ). Maybe they will have some sort of GHZ edition by that time too?

Same as Ti, but 100$ cheaper? I guess a good start, but not a huge performance over non reference model. Maybe overclocks will make it better.

I am not going to spend 500-600eu on GPU anymore. I did that with 680 and got it out of the system, from now on only bang for your buck territory for me. :o

Good stuff ;) TIs non ref models will overclock better than this for sure (1250 - 1300), this will do about 1.2ghz MAX.

Still, cooler and quieter than a ref TI at 1020mhz. And outperforms it slightly.

Built my first rig last week. Havent got much time to mess around with it over work but on it yesterday and today for awhile. Currently overclocking it and waiting to get my hands on a 290 card ! Can anyone recommend me a good keyboard? I'm not interested in spending hundreds though.

Had to make sure! I'm still contemplating moving my build to a mATX case, but the whole OEM w7 issue is putting me off.

Looking in to replacing my cheap case with one of these beauties Fractal Design Define R4 and get a modular PSU for better cable management, also going to get this CPU cooler. Good choices?

I'm going to be upgrading my CPU when Broadwell comes out. I currently have a i5 3550. I'm wondering will I be able to use that CPU cooler with the broadwell socket?

Lads how would I increase transfer speed from a pc to a Nas?

Im currently have 460Gb of stuff I want to transfer from pc to Nas and the speed is an incredibly slow 11.3mb/s so im looking at around 12hrs transfer lol

    Its a Synology Nas

One thing im certain off is the ****ty eircom router doesnt help

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,710 ✭✭✭Monotype

Can you avoid going through the router and connect directly?
You'd need a crossover cable though, so that's probably more trouble than it's worth.
    Any USB connections?

Are you using a good quality cable? - i.e., CAT 5e or above? Do both ends support 1Gbps? Does the router support 1Gbps?

If you were desperate, you could take the drives out of the NAS and put them in the PC to get full SATA speeds. That's assuming they're not in RAID or spanned.

ya I dont have a cross over cable. I didnt think of taking the sata drive out, thats a good idea and most likely the best method even thou its pretty awkward all the same.

Yes the cables are cat5e, im not sure on the D1000 router, its eircom so probably a no.

Probably a bit late now but a linux live disc would do the job.

I was at my friends for xmas and he has Catleap monitor ( well one of its modifications lol ). It made me go WOW in fairness. I want one now too. I can just imagine how much better EVE online would be for me with all that extra screen space. Its just no point for me getting catleap with 680. :(

Well, when I walked in to room, I noticed it right away. Its freaking lovely. Now I do use 2x 2312hm's, which are IPS ( sort off ) panels and do look lovely. The Catleap look great and the 1440p resolution on top of that makes it very "wanted" toy for me now. :( Looks like you could get one for around 300-350eu in total, but having horse power to run it is different story. :(

I'd give you like €20 each for the Dells! You'd be well on your way then.

actually even a single 670 can handle it pretty well in most games, including EVE which isn't really that demanding on GPU. Such high pixel density and resolution lets you tune down your AA setting to compensate for lost performance.

I am reading very good comments on this around, but almost everyone mentions going SLI down the road anyway.
