Out of curiosity are you developing something for your "thesis" or are you doing a standard thesis?

I think all of thesis, dissertation, FYP are all relatively interchangeable terms really-ish.
Thesis is probably more beyond the undergrad degree alright though. For my masters one I've mixing in both thesis and dissertation to describe it but I know for my undergrad the FYP was called a dissertation. That was for geography though and was optional and I didn't do one.
Probably all irrelevant info there but I'm always here to confuse :pac:0 -

Sorry yes thats exactly what i meant, im just so used to hearing all the heads in the business/HR degrees talking about their thesis/dissertations and never really know what to say when i just have a project ha!

Speaking of Masters - What are your thoughts on doing one?
I know we're in different sectors so to speak, but do you have any regrets on doing one?
Well I took a year out last year because I couldn't decide what I wanted to do and just worked up until xmas in a shop I'd been working in part-time the last 3 years. I looked at "real" jobs too but my geography-economics degree didn't really leave me too many options.
I went travelling Southeast asia for a few months then and ended up almost in the same situation again :pac: but I committed to a masters now and I'm happy I did. It's going to be an extra qualification and an extra year for everything to settle down more too. Come the summer when I'm tearing my hair out I'll be saying something different but for me coming from arts a masters is going to be important. I'm glad I went travelling too
Computer science is probably different though, I'd say there's a good few job out there in the right places? A masters won't hurt though if you're able to fund it and should leave you in a better position the following year. That's my take on things anyway.0 -

How old are you out of curiosity? The thoughts of another year in college are torture! 4yrs will be more then enough for me in anything related to computer science. ill be just 28 finishing and the thoughts of not getting back to full time employment asap is horrific! I miss money...
part-time just dosn't cut the mustard! Id imagine the stress of a masters is what im going through doubled too so fuck that, although fair play for sticking it out yourself it will definitely stand to you!
I'll definitely do something else down the line, but more likely a sports science degree or similar part-time0 -

I'm 23 so it doesn't bother me too much, even though having just left for a year it almost seems alien. All different faces and I just feel old at times (:pac:). I've never had real full-time work and in the last few months it's bothered me but I'll be better off in the long-run by doing the masters. Even if it means a quiet 12 months
Oh and I'm doing European Development Studies
I'd actually love to like computers and do programming but I just can't hack it. We've touched on GIS (ie mapping) and it's interesting but I wouldn't last a week at it!
How many words are ye're FYP? I saw 25k for mine and assumed it was a typo, I was wrong :eek:0 -

Ah, I can understand it coming from an arts degree. Plus considering Arts is a 3-year degree (Or at least in my college it is) the extra year wouldn't hurt too much.
From a CS background though, I don't see the appeal of a Masters at all considering the only companies who really push for one would the likes of Google / Microsoft, but you need to be the best and brightest to get in there anyway.. My grades don't scream best and brightest
More so down to dislike of certain subjects than anything else..

For the final year project there are no "words" as such well not in my case! We have to develop some sort of software application instead, that was why i was laughing about calling in a thesis or whatever as there's no writing involved really. All im developing is a custom CMS for production management in businesses. Despite 4 years of programming i am a terrible developer, i much prefer multimedia/design and databases to java/C/python type application development0 -
