    1. Does it have a remote
    2. Does it have USB port so i can connect external Hdd or usb key
    3. Can it play every single video format on the planet
    4. Does it costs less then 100eu ( the less the better )
    5. Is it a pain in a hole.

    Maybe check this one out

    http://www.komplett.ie/komplett/product/zkb-03elec/80010356/mede8er-med400x2s/details.aspx

That brand was pretty highly recommended back when I was looking

Interesting, but I wonder if I even need all that? It is like some sort of mini Pc? Though specs are dreadful.

We mainly use our two for Netflix and sometimes a bit of casual browsing the web.

    1. Yes / No. Out of the box you will not get one, however the girlfriend and I invested in a wireless keyboard with a touch input, so it acts like a standard mouse and keyboard. Handy little yoke. At the very least you will need a mouse as the PC will not function without it.

    2. Yes - But there is usually only one USB slot. If you managed to find a wireless mouse / keyboard that worked over Bluetooth without an adapter you'd be sorted. Alternatively, nearly all will take a microSD card. Not sure how capable those are at playing HD files though. Another alternative would be streaming it from your laptop, but this will not work for HD files. Tried recently on a 720p episode and it failed horribly.

    3. This I can't answer for sure but I would assume so. It is a fully functional android device with all the features, so I think 'There is an app for that' would apply to this scenario. You have full access to the app store so if it doesn't have 'Feature X' out of the box, you can go download something else to do it for you.

    4. The device itself is usually pretty cheap, maybe 50 euro, but they mostly come in from the likes of China / Hong Kong so you will need to pay VAT on top of that value (Add on 20%). Add to that the cost of the mouse or keyboard or whatever you go with, and a charger.

    5. We have two of them and 90% of the time, no we have no issues. It works flawlessly. We seem to have issues in the girlfriends house but I more-so put that down to her Wifi connection than the Android device. Netflix randomly starts buffering and we need to close it down and then reopen it again.

    Other notes to point out:

    - Unless you are going to have the Android stick very near your wireless router I would definitely invest in one with Antennas. The one I have does not have Antennas and the signal is very weak. My girlfriends one has Antennas and it's definitely an improvement.

    - We bought this remote which is a mouse / keyboard / remote in one combo. Handy little yoke but I would invest more next time, as it is usually a case of 'You get what you pay for'. This can be a bit fussy at times.

    - These Android PC's run on a microUSB charger and will need to plugged in at all times. I strongly recommend getting a charger that outputs at least 2.0v such as a tablet charger. Mobile phone chargers tend to output < 1.0v

Is there any word on when the FM2+ processors will be released? Want to hold off buying an FM2 if another month would see the FM2+ available. Finding it hard to find anything about it online

In fairness, as long as it plays video files, I could not give a flying feck of it is a bit laggy. It's is there only for me to press button and watch movie or tv series. I already have 120gb ssd external drive, so I don't Really need wireless streaming. Netflix will be handled by ps3.

So Asus is pretty much winner so far. Any othera options?

Format wise I think any of the Asus players will play anything under the sun, and the mini is definitely a better value option than the R1. Just can't give it a 100% endorsement as I have never used that one :).

Just placed the order on Asus O play. 75eu in total.

When that arrives, I will start cleaning up old pc and getting it ready for my buddy. He does not even know anything yet. I hope he will be happy as he asked me to sell it to him so many times back in the day. Now I will just let him have it until he gets his own!

Just downloading Dban boot and nuke. Should I unplug my ssd while running boot and nuke?

The plastic on one side of my gamecom 780s just snapped when I picked them up last night. :(

Got 14 months out of them. Now to bollock around with glue and tape til I get around to ordering a new headset.

Well laaads, I'm selling my gaming PC and all peripherals. What I need to know is what's the easiest way to format the HD and reinstall the OS? I don't want any of my files left on it when I sell it on but Id like whoever buys it to be able to just plug it in and start using it like I did after I installed the OS for the first time.

I'm currently in the position (just sold it more or less.) Using Dban boot and nuke to clean the HDD. Taking an age though.

Asked this previously, but which mechanical keyboard and gaming/music headset with an ok mic should I get. Not looking to spend over ~60 on headset, cheaper the better.

I had an Asus O!Play (R1), and never met a format it couldn't play. Very responsive interface too, but it doesn't have much in the way of additional internet niceties like youtube/netflix support etc . Although mine is a very early version of it so later version might be better (Thats is why I eventually replaced it with a full HTPC).

Still it is quite expensive, and although I have found it pretty good, there must be better value to be had out there.

EDIT: Just remembered it was is also real pain in the ass to get it working off a Windows 7/8 share drive across a network, but perfect for USB/HDD.

I still have this. It's great except that it can't handle multiple subtitles at any one time. They've also managed to get OPlay Air firmware working on the R1

There is (or was!) just of Georges Street on convent road, might have one though it won't be cheap

So I'm having trouble finding a full size male-to-male DP cable. The place Lu Tze suggested is New Paddy, but they didn't have one. PC World don't carry them, and Maplin have them on their UK website but haven't answered the phone in their Dublin store. Would anyone have any other ideas?

http://www.dban.org is good for erasing stuff. Run the 3 pass for best results. The aim of DBAN is to make it a lot harder to retrieve data. Simply formatting the machine won't stop this from happening. After DBAn is finished, install Windows, and the drivers for your machine.

Well, its dispatched, so I should have it tuesday.

I am just wondering, will my old q6600 with 6870 be able to run BF4 at reasonable FPS. Anything that will make it look as good as ps3/360 but with proper 63 player maps is a Win Win.

I'm running BF4 with a Q9550 and 4870 all on low. A 6870 may allow you to run it on medium, or mostly low with some shiny bits enabled.

So my college might have a few computers they are getting rid of, anyone know of any uses for them? I've been told I might be able to have one or two.

Well my gaming rig is gone. Was actually pretty sad to see it go.

On another topic, I have no wifi in my room is there anything similar to those powerline adapters but solely for wifi?

6870 is a lot faster than a 4870, you'd be fine for medium at 1080p I would imagine at least.

Hey guys! I'm running the PCFRITZ windows 7 on my PC at the moment and i got the windows 8 Upgrade edition on lightning sale during black Friday. Does the upgrade edition render my windows 7 key useless or could i use that on another machine afterwards?

Just bought a 290. Was going to buy a 280x but the 290 seems such ridiculously good value. I get that it runs a little hot and is a little louder than most cards but the level of performance for €370 delivered is unbelievable. As fast as GTX780. Sold my old card though so have to use a GTX260 for the next few weeks to play BF4. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,698 ✭✭✭Gumbi

Wait for the aftermarket 290s if you can in January. They will be cooler, queiter and will have some OC headroom :) That being said, the 290 references are still great value :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

Yeah, already bought one. Couldn't resist at that price when I was buying a new card anyway. The GTX590 was still a great performer but past 1080p the lack of vram hits it. Using my old GTX260 now and to be fair it's getting along at 2560x1080 low better than I expected.

Ya they are great value in fairness. How do you find it noise wise? Is your case well ventilated?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

I'm one of those people that isn't overly fussed about noise, so it never bothered me, was a little noisy though. I've a front 120mm, back 120mm, and a side 80mm, going to look at more at some stage. Heat was never a problem with Intel but having switched to AMD and using more power hungry cards, the need for cooling is much more important. Probably something worth keeping in mind when comparing Intel and AMD builds, really!

I run it on Medium settings @ 1080p with an i3-2120 and a 6870 and get 60fps. The i3 actually runs BF4 very well surprisingly because it using all 4 threads.

Hi, Just wanted to check what's the best graphics card I could get for under €160 delivered, for some gaming at 1080p, Minecraft mostly, some BF3 and stuff from last year

I was looking at the Sapphire HD7870 2GB GHz edition (11199-16-20G) its just come down to £119.99 on amazon
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-11199-16-20G-Graphics-Display-Express/dp/B00A1572TQ/ref=lh_ni_t?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE
    http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com/Sapphire-11199-16-20G-Graphics-Display-Express/product/B00A1572TQ

It's on Pixmania too for the same price
    http://www.pixmania.ie/graphics-card/sapphire-technology-radeon-hd-7870-ghz-edition-2-gb-gddr5-pci-express-3-0-11199-16-20g/20902832-a.html

It is good or any other recommendation before I buy it?, whats the Nvidia equivalent? GTX660?

Ya, they're damn good buys for that price point, maybe stick with Amazon for guaranteed great customer service? But to be frank, Pixmania offer good service too AFAIK, so I wouldn't worry too much on that front either.
